What time is kickoff slated for? Some games have been at 7 and some at 7:30?

As good as the Union/Richlands Series has been, I’d love to see that game aired in the coming years!! Always a classic!!!

Watched a little bit of the DB vs Science Hill game and thought it was cool that it was aired on tv.

Does anyone else think it would be a great idea to have games voted on each week and have them cover a game on live tv each week?

Maybe do half NETN half of the season and SWVA half of the season and alternate each week!!! Maybe also alternate weeks in the playoffs?

I know this may be something that will never happen, but we have a lot of great athletes in the coverage areas and would be nice to see the talent recognized!!

Any stats on the Adkins kid from Ridgeview? Is he healthy now or still out with ankle injury?

Don’t know his stats but #52 Matthew Gibson from Rye Cove had 10+ tackles and I know of one sack against Hurley Friday night.  The kid played a very good ball game!

#20 Avery Jenkins - Union

12 carries, 227 yards, 2 TDS in the Bears win over J.I. Burton.

Should be an epic match up, and I am hoping to make my way to Richlands to witness it.

Everybody is saying Union’s pass defense is struggling, my question, is it the safety position? I know the loss of Mitchell is a huge impact, but didn’t both cornerbacks see a lot of playing time last year? #20 Jenkins started at one corner last year and seemed to play very well. Who is the safety and other starting cornerback this year?

Union up 17-7 at the half. Falin hit 38 yard FG as time expired at the half.

I don’t think you have anything to worry about before going to Gate City! Not a knock on Gate City, just a rough spell in talent seems like! Blues take that game easy!!!!

Seems to me it would put a lot of schools in distress to find that extra game. I understand not having enough kids to play, but this had to be seen back when summer workouts began. Did the coaches think they could talk enough people into playing or what? This story as a lot of unanswered questions, I am sure a lot of people would like to know!

Just wondering when and where everybody’s first scrimmage is?

Has most of the local teams done away with jamborees and went to benefit games?

I know when I played, I always liked playing in the jamboree, a couple different teams playing and the start of the excitement for the year!!!

Is Culbertson still playing at Burton? That kid was a heck of a LB and FB?

For Union the Polier kid is definitely one to watch. He will be a junior this year and just has got stronger. I believe he has made the move to LB this year. Bailey Turner is returning to the QB position after a season ending knee injury in the 2nd week last year. Jenkins is another tough player to watch, he’s quick as lightning just has to toughen up between the tackles. Bunch is returning on the line and with another year of experience under his belt he will be a force on the line.Those are three that come to my mind. Can’t wait for Friday nights!

Would Phil Robbins have as many state championships without Barry Jones being the defense coordinator? 

Phil had all the talent in the world and was a heck of a coach, but Barry was a master mind on the defensive side of the ball!

Could Reed possibly be going back to coach at GC? From the sounds of it people wouldn’t happy with Akers, and would they be willing to take Reed back?

I think a guy to watch defensively will be the Polier kid from Union. I was very impressed with him at DE last year, and if I am not mistaken he made a deep run in the state tournament in wrestling and has only got stronger!!!

Will Gate City Football ever be back to what it used to be? The team that everyone dreaded to play?

Last I heard Barry Jones will be coming back to Union to help out, but Jay Edwards will be the D coordinator. 

If Barry does come back, I’ll be really excited to see him back on the field as a coach. Probably the best coach I ever had in any sport, great motivator and expected the best from you every day out!!! Always seemed to get the best out of each player he coached!!

Central has a chance to be good and a contender in the state. All depends on who runs the point guard and if they play as a team. Need to run the offense  and not try and play 1 man basketball.

McCamis is a heck of a player, and if he will penetrate and look for the open man, the kid can score his points plus have 10-12 assist a game. Just losing their PG will hurt, but Hayes, can step up and run the point as well. Should be a pretty solid team from the starting 5, going through about the 8th or 9th player off the bench. All of them seen playing time last year and have game experience.

Of course Gate City will be tough, with kids like Ervin and Dean it’s hard not to be competitive, all depends on what the coaching can surround those 2 with!!

Riner has been approved by the Scott County School Board for a teaching position. I would think that is why he went to GC is to take the baseball position. He was an assistant at Central under Mills, and many thought he would get the nod at head coach. Central hired JW Salyers, and then a week or so later Riner resigned!
