Um, no they moved it from Emory as they felt the vhsl was trying to hoodoo them by making them play on a turf field and not mud. please try to keep up. The OP went away from the game discussion I just responded to his original post.

Oh yeah that's right my bad. That was such a big shit show anyways lol. They should have just played the game on a Monday or something, but that's all in the past, and we got a great game on Friday that should be a great measuring stick to see where both programs are at this year. Can't wait! Sorry for the misunderstanding Topper.

Two years of having good seasons don't make you an elite program, especially in small schools where talent cycles.

Again the records speak for themselves.

But your correct  they dont have as much support , they don't have a state senator calling in favors with the VHSL to move a ballgame!!!!

Are you saying that Chilhowie called the senator to move their ballgame last year away from Chilhowie to damn Northwood?? What?? If that is what you are saying then what was even the point of bringing that up? Why not just stay on topic about the great game that is going to be played on Friday?

Will the coach of the Warriors take his team on a trip around the world then back thru Va Tech so they can loose all focus on the game this time or did he grow up as well ? Last year was a joke !  To much on young kids plates . jmo

That's probably the silliest thing I've ever read on here. What does that have to do with the football game? From that logic they must have been thinking about VT the whole game instead of thinking of Riverheads.. The team who won the championship the year before, and also the first time Chilhowie has been to that stage in how many years? Yeah dude I'm sure VT was all they thought about

So, I know that this is after the fact and kind of irrelevant, but let's address the real reason why the game was played at Northwood and not Emory. Chilhowie's field was deemed to be unsuitable for playing on, but let's be honest with ourselves, Northwood's field wasn't going to be any better. While Marion's field was in rough shape at the end of the season due to hosting back to back games in November rain, it has good grass and would have been in good condition to play on. Patrick Henry has a very large natural grass stadium, and GW would have been an ideal "midway" point between the two schools.

But they went with Northwood, after a delegate intervened, which tells you the real motivation behind the move to Saltville.

Saltville has NOTHING. Two analog gas stations that were rendered useless by their proximity to the stadium, a Subway, a Chinese restaurant, and a drive-in restaurant that is off the beaten path into town. Chilhowie had a Christmas parade that morning and was expecting to host the biggest non-Smyth-rivalry game that  they had hosted since the 70s. To the Chilhowie tourism department this was a second Apple Festival, and if they couldn't host the game, at least several hundred (at worst) people would have to get off I-81 in Chilhowie, drive directly past their Hardees, McDonalds, Taco Bell, Food City, and three gas stations before leaving the corporate limit north to Saltville, where a person would inevitably be out of options for gas, lunch, etc.

Not to say that folks hearts weren't in the right place by wanting Chilhowie to have the right to host it, but moving the game to Northwood was strictly based on local economics. It keeps the revenue in Chilhowie rather than Glade and Washington County.

Dude you forgot the main thing. The dollar general, and two pointless red lights. Also a pond the 3/4ths duck/geese crap.

In sure they'll have someone inspect the field on Tuesday and say it's good to go. On Friday some delegate will get a burr under his saddle and the field will be inspected a second time. At that point we'll decide to move the game to who knows where. But I'm sure it will be the best location for all involved.

We might get the first football game on ice.

They turned them off last year in the Union/Appo game too. Apparently, it's a VHSL rule to not use them in the semifinals in the event that the visiting team doesn't have them on their home field so as to not create an advantage for the home team. At least that's what we were told last year.

Man that's such a weird rule, and a weird explanation. How are they an advantage? Too bright for the teams who doesn't have em?
