Just wondering how do you guys know that a bunch of head coaches read this board? Do you ask each individual coach? Or just go off the word that a person's team's head coach said they read it?

Not trying to upset you...just curious

They are moderators.  They know who everybody is on here.

  2. Graham has lost to Bluefield Twice, Princeton Twice , Radford once and Oak Hill Red in double OT. (who they should have beaten, blew a double digit lead in the 4th quarter with poor foul shooting, given that Oak Hill stepped it up a notch in the 4th, however).  They played Bluefield close in the first contest.  Radford beat them convincingly, so did Bluefield and Princeton the 2nd time around.  They had a VERY good road win against PH Roanoke a couple of weeks back in which they put 4 quarters together against a very good team.  Meadows is coming along nicely and the G-Men seem to finally be learning Baker's half court sets, they struggled a LOT early in the season trying to run the half court offense.  It looks much smoother now.  Graham has improved a lot, but not enough to beat Radford, IMO.  Region D however,  it wouldn't surprise me to see them win the Region or be the runner up.

I think that's debatable. Sure Radford would win but I think Graham could hold their own if they play well and is GC without Ervin that much better than Graham?

GC without Ervin, is not that much better than Graham.  Should be a good one, if it comes down to it.  Couple of teams in the M7 that could knock both of them out, if they have an off night.   In the SWD however, it's Graham and then... well, it's just Graham, no offense to the other teams, but none of them have come close to beating Graham this season and after watching all of them play, I don't think any of them can come close to knocking Graham, GC or perhaps any of the M7 teams playing.

Radford would beat Graham by 25+. The only team from D that has any shot is GC. And I’d I take Radford -14.5 over the Devils.

Radford is the favorite by far.  Graham played earlier in the season and lost to Radford by 22.  Radford beat Princeton pretty handily earlier this season too.  Graham has been working on their half court game all season, only chance they would have is to slow it way down and execute very well.

Haha...The GMen will have to get by Radford before I'm willing to say that though. I'm not saying they can't but Region D is pretty weak this year with a couple exceptions, one of them being Graham. Radford is tough.

Oh absolutely, I was referring to a quote in the paper from last year when Fred said those very words, among some other nasty comments about Graham.   He was being sarchastic of course, in typical Fred Phillips fashion.  Radford is my favorite to win it all.  Graham has come along well this season, but Radford is legit for sure.

Do you think Fred would autograph it? 😂 On a final note, Cam Allen nearly outscored the entire Richlands team.

He should write "You may as well crown Graham state Champions" and sign it.  He would have out-scored them if the subs hadn't went in in the 4th.

  7. Richlands @ Graham Tonight.

I'm going with Graham by 12-15.  Richlands is playing better, but Graham will step it up a notch tonight.  Meadows is coming along nicely as a freshman.  He had about 5 blocked shots last night.  Cam has been playing with a nagging injury and is feeling much better and looked a lot more crisp last night.

I'm expecting some sideline antics on the RHS sideline, that's always entertaining!!  Perhaps another appearance at half court during play, like the last matchup?

  8. I wish him a ton if success, if it is indeed Mr. Akers.  Lord knows that he has had to deal with a ton of negativity.  He is after all a human and is dedicating his time to coach young men.  From an outsider looking in, nobody should have to endure the criticism that this man has endured while trying to coach kids.  If it were me, I would have left a long time ago and focused on the people that matter in my life.

  9. Ill say Graham by 12-15. Refs will call a couple of bogus technicals on Graham.  Freddy will be midway onto the court at least 5 times.  However he will not get called for a T.  Drew Baker will make at least one defender fall down off of the dribble.  Oh, also, Cam dunks and Freddy back-handidly says you may as well go ahead and crown Graham region champs.

Seriously though, I am going with Graham by 12-15.  What does everybody think?

Radford is by far the cream of the crop in Region C. I think Graham and Gate City in Region D are the top teams. This loss will help Graham down the road.

I agree.  Graham's press is getting beat in the games I have watched (except for Giles) and they are completely out of synch on offense.  Radford is a great team this year for sure.  As for Graham, back to the drawing board.  Not sure they can match the talent of Radford or Gate City.

  11. Score?  Anyone?

Graham has everybody healthy but looked out of synch against a sub par Alleghany N. Carolina team yesterday.  Anybody got a score or breakdown of how the G men looked?  I believe Radford will be the measuring stick in C and D this year.  Graham is still a few games away from reaching their potential I believe.

Im gonna assume you meant "arent the best".

I suppose I spoke too soon.  The last thing I expected was for Gmen to drop a game to Princeton. GC has looked terrible for parts of several different games....cant seem to put one whole game together.  I expect Graham and GC will continue to get alot better and will still meet each other when it's all said and done.  And it will be a barn burner as usual.

The loser however will get the boobie prize.  Its early yet but beginning to think Radford wont meet much resistance fom Region D this year.

    Question though....what's Princetons record?

Princeton is 6-2, maybe 7-2 with the win over Graham.  Their losses are to Bluefield and they lost on a buzzer beater to Blacksburg.  They are a good team, but I expected Graham to win that one.  Gridiron-60 is right, they need a presence underneath.  They have a 6 foot 7 presence that will be coming off the bench in the form of freshman Brody Meadows, which will help.  Dawson is a good inside player, but if he gets in foul trouble, they are in trouble. Maybe they could move Cam or Lester to the Post, they are a little undersized, but both can jump through the roof. I'm sure they will figure it out, they have a ton of athleticism and talent on the team.  Found out today that the football players have only had 3 or 4 practices and have not had much time to learn the offensive sets.   Meadows has only practiced once due to a sprain.  They will be fine, but this outcome still surprised me somewhat.  Graham scrimmaged and beat Pulaski by 18 without any of the football players.  I think what happened was a veteran Princeton team was well-prepared and made it a half court game, Graham's lack of size underneath hurt them in that scenario.  Would not be surprised at all to see Graham win by 15 at their place next time around.

  13. And just as I start to sing their praises, down go the G-Men.  Don't know what to say, Princeton wins 66-52.  Princeton is a pretty good team, but did not see this coming.  Back to the drawing boards.  Hopefully, the basketball team will do an impression of the football team and continue to improve as the season goes on.  They looked very impressive against Bluefield the other night, not so much tonight.

I wasn't there but maybe some of you were, sounds like the boys game was a barn burner coming down to buzzer beater. How are Blues going to stack up against Graham? Thoughts?

Girls game, well...they're a young team I believe. Earls seems to be their biggest play maker.

Graham boys should go undefeated in the swd.  As good or better than last season once everybody is healthy.  Meadows will give a big body underneath to come and spell Dawson.  I heard he is practicing now (ankle)  Bluefield took advantage of Graham on the boards when Dawson was out of the game.  Cam and Lester had only one or 2 practices in.  They will be fine.  Bluefield may be their only regular season loss and they may get revenge at GMS 2nd time around.  Those are 2 very good teams.

Graham girls will finish near the bottom of the district.

Congrats to Blfd on the win. Graham didn't have a presence on the glass to compete with Blfd for 4 qtrs. Also, Graham has a player that was a turnover machine. Hopefully that will be corrected. Graham should roll thru the majority of their season. Go G-Men!

    Spot on.
