Time to point out the obvious. Chilhowie is one of the best coached teams in SWVA. I thought for a year or two it may just be a talent high and all would be back to normal after the end of last year with Chilhowie and the losses of seniors and talent to graduation. It's now fairly clear the program might be on autopilot. Autopilot means you can lose a bunch of seniors and talent, but your coach is way ahead of the majority of his peers that the program is still a solid 9-1 type program the following year. I think that's where we are at with Chilhowie. The Head Coach is elite and far ahead of the overwhelming majority of his peers at his level of play in 1A. Kudos to the Coaching Staff at Chilhowie High.
I think it is safe to say that Coach Robinson has mastered the art of getting his kids to buy into a program. He has been doing the same thing on the baseball diamond for years. Chilhowie is quickly turning into a Richlands, Graham, or Union type program in 1a for this side of the state. I was honestly shocked about the amount of drop off that didn’t happened from last year. Now when you think about it those kids that are starters now have gotten a whole season worth of extra practice in the last 2 years that other teams that missed or didn’t go deep in the play offs have missed out on. Add that to the fact they were practicing against a pretty dang good group of seniors and have a master motivator in Coach Robinson makes for a pretty dang good team. I also think community support helps a lot. On top of packing the house for every home game they have some of the best facilities in their county in almost every sport and it’s not even close. As long as the regions continue to be split like they are expect chilhowie to play on thanksgiving at the worst for years to come.
FC dbs have lost the ability to cover the long ball another long pass for #2 27-14 looked good for a half but I do believe it’s safe to say Chris Akers will match his win total from his gate city days in 2 games at Fort
Mance will adjust he always does and gets #200. But you know it will come down to the final play with one fan base leaving pissed off heart broken and headed to the gas station to pick up the 30 rack of their choice
Graham wins because even though Tazewell is much improved from last year that big G with the sheriffs badge on the side of the helmet is too much of a mental hurdle for the bull dogs to overcome
Abingdon pulls a Tennessee football and overlooks this one and loses 30-38 because just like Georgia States head coach said in the locker room at Gate City it just means more to us
Wow if kids are just leaving the team mid game week that makes it tough for coaches to prepare if they are missing 40% of their line. I would say the run game drops off a good bit tonight
Because of RV’s insistence on being so one dimensional on offense I always see them being a stacked defensive front away from an upset. However I don’t think it happens this week.
RVs run game is very good. The line does a great job opening up holes for the studs they have in the back field. They really only need to successfully throw the ball 5 times a game to keep the D Honest. I don’t know know much about JI but if they have anything less than a great front 7 they got no chance.
No that was only a local rumor. They released on Facebook, that it was only an ugly rumor not to be believed. I don't think we have a lot of size, but we do have some athletes that could help. It will be interesting to see how they improve. I'm thinking 5 wins would be a good season for them. I'd say on a good day if things go well they will get 3 to 5 wins this season. Not great but improved. Give them another season or so and they will be dangerous I think.
The coaching staff did an excellent job at getting intrest up. I think they are also making the wrestling team play which helps.
I would say making wrestlers play is only going to help y’all out. I’m glad that was just an ugly rumor best of luck to y’all this year
It's a NO!!! Tazewell coaching staff doesn't know how to us the talent they have and once again the Blues will be victorious.
I agree it’s a no but the talent they have is at the skill positions they are very weak in the trenches and Richlands is very well coached in the trenches might be close but games are won up front and until Tazewell improves there it will be the same old story
What you're seeing differs from what I'm seeing, at least locally. Kids are working jobs to offset the lack of family funds. Many of these kids are my daughters age (14). I see several Twin County (Galax, Grayson, Carroll) athletes working all over the place. Some even work in the Christmas tree farms from daylight to dark. Several of these kids forgo athletics when school starts back and keep the job to help the family.
I had someone tell me recently, "fumes" hurt high school athletics more than any other single thing. Gas fumes and perfumes!
I have seen that happen too and that is a just sad for the kids honestly. I think is good to have a summer job in high school but a 14-17 year old kid shouldn’t have to quit a sport to put food on the table.
As far as fumes go those vape pens and juuls are probably the worst thing to happen to high school kids. You can’t keep them away from it
Also I wouldn’t worry about numbers until August 1st unfortunately a lot of kids have lost the value of hard work in this day and age so off-season numbers are going to be lower
