  5. https://phenomhoopreport.com/takeaways-from-tyler-lewis-hoop-fest-john-marshall-is-a-special-group/ Special group I'd say. Especially since 3 of them that we know of didn't even go to school there.... and two of them didn't even live in the state of Virginia. We can have a lot of special groups of teams around the state if we put together teams the way Ty White does. VHSL must be hurting for money at the state tournaments. Doing all they can to get people out from their backyard to come to the Siegel Center to watch the hometown recruited team play. Hey VHSL. Just go ahead and pass the NIL while you are at it. Ty White can have his own little Class 2 college team then. Just like they tell their guys in the YouTube video "Go get your money." This while every other school in Class 2, Class 1 are developing the skills in their guys as players and as young men. We aren't sore losers in Southwest Virginia. We just play by the rules and develop our players from the communities they came from. Now if the VHSL wants us to go recruit, don't worry. We can get the job done there too. I promise you. https://www.maxpreps.com/va/prince-george/prince-george-royals/athletes/desmon-rose/media/videos/?careerid=stgsrski8g2p9&videoid=9793a36d-bfc1-4872-926b-2b05a1aa1ac6 Desmon Rose Prince George HS 6'6 Fr. https://prephoopsnext.com/2021/11/top-100-latrell-almond-north-carolina/ - Latrell Allmond listed as small forward from The O'Neal School in Southern Pines, North Carolina playing for Team Loaded https://m.facebook.com/super60showdown/videos/latrell-almond-team-loaded-vathe-oneal-schoolsouthern-pines-nc-2026-68-pf-latrel/581960943442098/?locale2=en_US Latrell Allmond https://www.verbalcommits.com/players/jason-rivera-torres Jason Rivera Torres Iona Prep School Bronx, NY check out his Twitter ... not playing for Iona. 6. These rankings are going off the map indicated above. If other teams eastward need to be here then someone needs to update the map they put up. Boys 1. Radford - Class 2 2. 8. Virginia High is the best team in far Southwest Virginia right now by a mile. Anyone who says they are not really do not give them the respect they deserve. They lost to a Tennessee High team by 5 I believe. A Tennessee High team that pretty much destroyed Dobyns Bennett in Viking Hall. I believe they play Abingdon tonight. If they play fast and go at the big guys, Ramsey and Osborne, they should easily beat the Falcons by 10-15 in my opinion. Virginia High is way better than most want to believe in these parts.
  9. I saw in the paper that Cloudland played Patrick Henry the night before. Patrick Henry may not have been as strong as they could be. You may be correct and I may be incorrect but for now Patrick Henry has more good wins. We will find out what Twin Springs has when they host Lee on Saturday.

  13. Abingdon didn't handle the pressure well at all. On the court or on the sidelines. Players throwing the ball away. Coaches getting a technical foul. To the point of the coach playing a 1-2-2 that pretty much says your team can't play a lick of man defense anyway. He would just have to pressure the ball to the basket and have his 7 footer waiting on them. I thought he also had a 6:10 or 6'11 guy but he must be terrible because I didn't notice him at all on the floor. After that big win I think the Devils and Ridgeview are battling for the Mountain 7 District Championship now. Abingdon may be playing for 3rd or 4th. No offense to the current coach but they are going to regret getting rid of Williams.
  14. Kingsport Times News used to publish a Top 20 for SWVa in high school basketball. Would anyone like to give their opinion of a SWVa Top 20 for today? I would think it might look something like this Southwest Virginia Top 20 1. Abingdon - Class 3 2. Virginia High - Class 2 3. Graham - Class 2 4. Marion - Class 2 5. Gate City - Class 2 6. Ridgeview - Class 2 7. Union - Class 2 8. Eastside - Class 1 9. Twin Springs - Class 1 10. Grundy - Class 1 11. Lebanon - Class 1 12. Richlands - Class 2 13. Holston - Class 1 14. 15. I have been hearing a lot of talk from different people about the declining enrollment in the county. Are the football programs an indication of that? I have heard and read differing opinions of the facts but when Rye Cove finishes with 11 players because of concussion injuries and Gate City finishes with correct me if I’m wrong 19 players in a win against lowly Lebanon and these two schools together have as many players as Twin Springs has in their program and Twin Springs has less students than both schools then something is wrong. Is it true that Twin Springs just has barely 187 kids now? Rye Cove has 206 and Gate City has 652? Altogether that’s around 1045 students. It makes sense why you wouldn’t consolidate any of the schools. The county is so spread apart and then it also puts them on the higher end of Class 3 in classification. Like Abingdon the closest playoff schools would be in Roanoke. So even with students on the fringes of the county going elsewhere to other high schools closer to them Scott County could never be a consolidated school Sports are not a reason to consolidate schools but if Scott County lost 350 students to surrounding schools (Union, Lee, Castlewood, Eastside, John Battle, Dobyns Bennett and West Ridge) then and only then would they still be in the Class 2 classification and that doesn’t look very likely anytime soon Is football just not a popular sport anymore? I’ve heard it could be 6 or 7 years before football is actually a popular thing anymore in the county Actually I was told by some friends and their kids that the most popular sports at Gate City these days were Soccer, Baseball, Basketball, Golf and Football in that order. I find that hard to believe in some respects but now I’m not so sure Can someone feel me in on the climate of combining the schools in the county? Would it ever happen and if so what would it take? Lots of questions and no answers if you ask me. Feel me in if you have some info.
  16. I think when you have a chance to go home to be the head coach it’s something you can’t pass up.
  17. So is talking about the next head coach trash? We would just like to know who is tabbed to take the job and know who is going to take on the next group of Blue Devils. I would think they would be announcing a replacement soon and no I do not know who or how many have applied. It would be very interesting to know who has applied to see what the quality of the applicant pool is. What they are looking for in an applicant though idk exactly what that might be
  18. So there is word floating around out there the next GC head coach will come from Twin Springs. It isn’t that hard to figure out who it could be if you have seen some of the comments going on social media. In our opinion the next head coach to be hired will be able to bring in some big names for his basketball camps in summer and will have the boosters in his hip pocket. We all thought he was being groomed for the job when he was down here before on staff. I believe it’s a no brainer when it comes down to it honestly and he would be one of the four I would have chosen. With the talent coming up in a few years and the experience he has under his belt I n the postseason with the now former coach I think you should have an idea of who it may be. It’s all just rumor mill stuff but over here at work we think it’s a done deal. Then again we didn’t expect Dyer to get the job at The Ridge either so we could all be wrong. We actually thought McMeans might try to go back and get the job to tell you the truth. Take what we think as a grain of salt really. We are just laying down bets over here on who the next coach up here will be. Should be an interesting pick! We think we know already. Anyone want to lay down a bet on who it may be?
  19. Anybody know who is in the running for the job? Anybody know anyone who wants the job and has or will applied? Any idea on who people might want to get the job? Im curious as to who will be hired since coach is now the principal and one of the assistants is over the boosters. I’m sure they will have a say in it as well. Might be a little say but just as a well will have a say. I have an idiot computer that lets me posts things in 15 second increments. I hate WiFi sometimes. Lmao
  20. Getting candidates should not be a problem. The question will be who they want for the job. Ultimately it will be up to the school board. From them you will find out which direction they want to go with the program. If the coach is chosen from in house there are only two people I would know of that they would entrust the program to from what I have been told by others in the know and only one is a former player of his while the other was a teammate I think at CVC at one time. If it’s from the county as a whole then there are four people I know of that will most likely be asked from those in the know (3 former players and 1 former teammate). Outside of the county there is one I know of but whether they would hire him back is questionable. Other than this idk of anyone. So altogether, IMO, there are only 4 former players and one former teammate involved. Anyone else IMO doesn’t have the capability to run the program or have the credibility with the kids to get the job done. I can’t imagine them honestly wanting anyone else involved IMO. When it comes to that circle up there it’s a small one for a reason.
  21. When will the new classifications be out for Virginia? Will they keep what they have or are we really going to four classes? If so what will the classes look like in their makeup? What will 1A and 2A look like for schools in this region? Just looking for answers and seeing if anyone has them.
  22. No state titles for the Titans if they play like they did against us over at TNT. Big Blue opened a can on Big Red. I think some of the parents for the Big Red have these huge horse blinders on to the point that they can’t see that their kid isn’t Duke bound but more on the track to barely making the team at UVA Wise and the way that program is right now that’s not saying a whole lot either. You never know what can happen though.
  23. Provided we have a season, how do the standings look in football and basketball this year? Early projections on how everyone finishes? M7 Football 1. Ridgeview 2. Central 3. Abingdon 4. Union 5. Gate City 6. Lee 7. John Battle M7 Basketball 1. Union 2. Abingdon 3. Lee 4. Gate City 5. Ridgeview 6. Central 7. John Battle Lets year from everyone else.
  24. So how would an All Time Scott County team from 1990 to present day do against other all time teams out there? Maximum 15 players. If you can make a better team, then it’s a beast. If you count up the total points and rebounds these guys accumulated over their careers, the titans would be tremendous If Scott County had a consolidated high school, quite a few of these guys would have played together A day like that just might not be that far off with the way the enrollments are right now. If that happens, SW Va better hold on for a crazy ride G. 6’1. Mac McClung - GC 2000+ puts G. 6’3. Stacy Ervin - TS 2000+ F 6’5. Zac Ervin - GC 2000+ F. 6’9. Josh Shoemaker - GC F. 6’5. Jeremy Houseright - GC Bench G 6’2. Bradley Dean - GC 2000+ G 6’2. Jason Bishop - RC G 6’1. Chris Peters - GC G 6’5. Mark Dockery - TS F 6’7. Andy Arnold - GC F 6’4. Tony McDonald - GC F 6’5. Chad Beasley - GC F 6’5. Justin Seaver - GC F 6’4 Austen Arnold - GC F 6’7. Tyler Webb - TS
  25. I have heard from different coaches that Spotswood, Cave Spring, Northside among others will be in Class 2. Anyone have a projected look at what Class 2 looks like. I have seen Class 1 with Graham, Lebanon, Radford all down. I have been wanting to see Class 2 projections. If it were to go to four classes, Gate City. 652 TSHS. 187 RCHS. 206 Totals: 1014. 9-11 Class projections 720-750?? I would think that if Scott County loses anymore students they would not be far from a consolidation somewhere and they would still be Group 2. They wouldn’t be with today’s enrollment but maybe later on in a few years. Even with two schools they would for sure still be in Group 2. Only thing is which two schools do you combine? if it’s TS and RC definitely still Group 1! Any of the others with GC and they are still group 2.
