Graham 27-0 over a much slower less athletic Cave Spring.  Graham's defense may be better than last year's. They are solid.  Rex Bradshaw and Dennis Palmer have them starting out much better than beginning of last year.  I imagine they'll adjust as they need to though as season progresses but the are tough already. It's going to be brutal for some opponents they face. Several may not make it across mid-field too many times during a game.  Offense obviously better than Cave Spring's defense but still needs some work. I think they can be formidable but it may take a two or three games to get things tightened up a bit better; hopefully, only two or three games.  Lester is fast and I think when he finds open field, he's gone.  Passing game needs accuracy though. I still say they're the team to beat in the SWD.  All of this is my opinion, others may disagree.

against cave springs its really not hard to have a good looking D! they are not good. next week should be a good test.

What side does Martin lineup on left or right?

It doesn't matter what side he lines up on, he will be pitching a tent in their backfield all night long. lester will know how many pimples he has by the end of the night.

I could be wrong -- but I'm not sure Graham returns as much on the defensive side of the ball as Richlands does. The Blues return 10 starters and have an entirely senior-laden line.

Graham may win -- but I think a lot of people are sleeping on the Richlands defense and how good it will be this year.

Graham lost Cam Allen, cant replace him. Lester is good but hes no Cam.  lost 3 starting O lineman, cant replace those. was at their scrimmage and their right tackle is to say the least not good. so we will see

I'm gonna say they will be 3-1 with a lost to just Bluefield the first 4 games. Regular season will be 8-2. Richlands has much more size than in the past years. Has a good recieving core, 2 good running backs, one big back in steel and one quick back that's still young in newberry. Returning the entire line play and most of the entire secondary. Including a few new faces recently. Things are getting better. Last years 8th grade class will run the table in a few years.

was the 8th grade class the jv team yesterday?? all in blue

  5. I talked to the parents of a football player who said they really didn't like playing for their coach. They weren't happy with the play calling and that he only ran like 5 different plays per game and he was unwilling to change after 15+ seasons.

Galax should win the MED especially with adding Denver Brown.  George Wythe should win 7 -9 games and should still be in the playoffs when Thanksgiving rolls around

denver seems like a good kid but when I watched him a few times last year he seems to shy away from contact. tries to outrun to corner instead of turning up field. i really dont see him as a game changer. good kid but just not a game changer.

  7. I predict GW will win the Mt Empire. Galax will be tough test for them  but they should lose 1 maybe 2 games. A lot of young talent to mix with veteran leadership. With Chilhowie losing a majority of talent  from the past two state runner up teams  the maroons could easily get the state semis this year.

I believe Graham has 8 of their defensive line returning this year. With what Rex Bradshaw and Dennis Palmer did with the defense last year, I foresee the defense being just as stingy this year with the offensives they face. Prioleau is the best player Radford has IMO. Graham just had his number last year. He'll be better this year I'm sure but so will Graham's defense I would think.

are they playing an 8 man front?? lol

still doesn't mean they are going to win state again. like i said they will lose to beaver nation by 20 then win out and lose in the playoffs. union may present a challenge as a second loss but not sure what they have. If lester gets hurt for any amount of time "i dont wish injury on anyone" but this is football and these things occur, you will not win a game he is not your QB.

    Standouts for Graham will be:

Devin Lester- (QB / DB) :  D-1 offers

Brody Meadows (OL) - D-1 offers as a freshman (1st team all -American Freshman team last season).

Aaron Edwards:  1st team all state LB (interest growing, including D-1)

Nick Kastner:  1st team all state LB (several D-1 schools showing interest)

Marcus Ray:  WR/ DB:  Very athletic, very fast WR / DB.  Can also be a change of pace RB

Tre Booker:  RB / DE:  Very powerful / bruising RB (6 ft. 220 lbs) - if he can't run around you, he will run over you.

Juvante Reed:  RB / DL:  another powerful RB (250 lbs) also plays on DL.

Xayvion Turner:  RB:  Very fast and athletic, but a bit small (150 lbs).

Isaiah Justice:  WR:   Tall, lanky, athletic wide receiver with very good hands

Joey Dales:  Kicker / WR:  Very solid kicking game and a nice 3rd option at WR.

Isaac Dalton:  LB - Most likely the 3rd LB along with Edwards and Kastner (very solid and hard nosed.

Landon Atkins:  DL / LB:  Very hard nosed agressive player.

Peyton Kiser:  DE:  Developed into a very solid player on defense last season.

That's just off the top of my head... I'm sure there will be a couple younger kids step up.

    Hope that helps.

If you think that Lester is all that Graham has this season, you are in for a rude awakening.

Also, I believe Graham was up 57-0 in the playoffs over Radford before the subs went in, "so don't hate".

Still the only one i see worthy of a D1 is Lester! Meadows is only getting interest because of his size! Martin will eat his lunch! Kastner and Edwards good lb’s the rest are window dressing! Average at best! Booker slow and can’t hold on to the ball. Dude you are a dreamer! Hold on to it tight

No one really thought Radford was going to get beat last year. I'm not saying Graham wins state but I'm not automatically handing it to Radford either. Radford will be phenomenal, no doubt. Graham's got more than Lester going for them. I'm no expert but I'd say their DL will be pretty strong.which may be a surprise to a brand new board member such as yourself.

Guess since I’m new I don’t know what I’m taking about! Ok I’m still waiting on you to tell me who they have other than Lester! Who’s the d line? LB’s are gonna be good but need more than that! Radford has all their talent returning  so don’t hate

  12. My surprise would be if graham wins state 2A this year! besides the Lester kid what do they have? skilled player wise? they lost 3 of the 5 starters on the oline as well. My boy sean martin at bluefield will anyone on that o-line be able to stop him?? NOPE cam allen is gone and not walking through that door. I see graham going 8-2 then losing after a good playoff run. no one will beat Radford in va 2A this year.
