The box score posted in the Galax Gazette today matches almost exactly to what @Single A westposted above. Digital Scout is a decent resource but is often wildly inaccurate.

    Galax 34 Radford 27 OT

    Galax 7 3 7 10 7––34
    Radford 7 13 0 7 0––27

    First quarter
    Rad–Dobson 46 run (Steele kick) 11:01
    Gx–Ashworth 1 run (Vera kick) 5:02

    Second quarter
Rad–Aursby 72 pass from Baylor (kick failed) 7:01
    Rad–Baylor 17 run (Steele kick)
    Gx–Vera 28 FG, 0:35

    Third quarter
    Gx–Reeves 29 run (Vera kick) 0:12

    Fourth quarter
    Gx–Reeves 20 run (Vera kick) 11:46
    Rad–Baylor 68 run (Steele kick) 10:34
    Gx–Vera 38 FG, 3:16

    Overtime
    Gx–Ashworth 2 run (Vera kick)

    Gx Rad
    First downs 13 9

    Punts-avg. 4-30.8 7-30.3
    Fumbles-lost 4-3 2-1
    Penalties-yards 6-51 8-78

    INDIVIDUAL STATISTICS
    Rushing
    Galax, Reeves 16-116, Horton 11-72, Tucker 13-35, Ashworth 15-31.
    Radford, Baylor 13-174, Dobson 6-49, Brubeck 2-5, Wesley-Brubeck 6-1.

    Passing
    Galax, Ashworth 6-12-1-70.
    Radford, Baylor 6-17-1-100.

    Receiving
    Galax, Cox 2-41, Belcher 1-19, Barnes 1-6, White 2-4.
    Radford, Aursby 1-72, Hamblin 1-13, Henderson 1-7, Wesley-Brubeck 2-5, Clark 1-3.

The stats from Radford line up closer to this.  Ashworth at 36 rushing.  I believe if the Roanoke Times is at the ball game, which they were, they keep their own stats. They publish what they are sent if they do not attend the game.

I can not wait until the Gate City game. I'm older and remember well the days when Radford was in the old Region 4 with the likes of Graham, Tazewell, and Gate City, and three of them powerhouses. Throw in the Bandana bunch from Giles, and man it was a fun region. I loved the trips to the West, and places like Legion Field are still in my memory as a youth. If the Gate City game is cancelled, I'm going to be really depressed.  I hope we can continue to keep getting series with you guys in Region D. It reminds me of old times, but hopefully we get the W at Gate City. I'm beginning to wonder or think it might not be as easy as I originally thought.

Its going to be close if they get to play.  Any more positive cases and I think Radford will have to cancel.

I agree on Marcell.  He's got to keep quiet and play ball.  To much extracurricular stuff after the play.  No question though, he isn't playing QB at the college level.  He has defensive back written all over him.  He's actually 6"2, 6"3 and runs a 4.5.  He's thin now, but when he grows into that frame with a touch more weight, he's going to be special in my opinion at the next level.  You might be right about George Wythe and maybe I'm wrong.  Maybe I have been watching to much football.  I have no idea.  I thought we looked pretty good, but I'm a homer so who knows.  Gate City will tell us more.  It's hard for me to gauge who is good anymore.  For example, I think Richlands looks fantastic from what I've seen so far, as in....their best team since they lost to Appomattox in a game they should have won many years ago.  I take it many Richlands or SWVA fans probably don't see it, so this causes me not to trust myself anymore.  Now...if Richlands beats Union or plays Union in a nailbiter, I will be on to something.

Baylor's mouth and attitude will be the things that might keep him from D1.  Everything else is there. He isn't naturally a QB but he is our best choice at QB.  He doesn't have the ability to find open receivers, at least so far.  If he can figure that out the Radford Offense will be tough to contend with.  Wesley-Brubeck hears from the Dr this week if he will be released which gives an added weapon on offense and experience on defense.

Man don’t be shocked if we roll up 200 on the ground and 150 in the air! We have 1 senior on our team. 10 juniors 10 sophomores and rest freshmen. Plus our best bar none athlete is out till oct after tearing acl in the spring. His twin brother is the qb! Now if he was there, Katy bar the door!

I forgot about the twins but shouldn't have from JV game a few years ago.  They were really good.

Not sure we watched the same game against allegheny. They were slow as fog of crap! Moving the ball I don’t think will be a problem for GW. Their qb might be one of the fastest on the field and their RB is a hammer. We will move the ball just fine. I see it the other way with u guys moving the ball. 8 is really all u have in O, u did get the running back from Pulaski but he looks like he wants to dance more than run. And if our D ends play they way they are taught 8 will have to sit in the pocket all night. With that being said they don’t it will be a long night. We will see

I don't think Wesley-Brubeck will be back for this game but I heard he was released by the Dr.  He is a big piece that Radford needs on both sides of the ball.  I would say Radford wins for sure if he plays.  I think the only way GW wins is by passing the ball.    Radford is really young but has lots of talent in that sophomore class.  I expect a close game with either team with a chance to win.

At Radford, we had all but 7 vaxd on our team as of a week ago.  2 of the 7 who weren't vaxd had already had the virus in the past, so that basically means we have 5 left.  That's a pretty good ratio of total kids vax or having had the virus compared to not.

Radford just got tested this morning so the earlier statement from yesterday that 3 were positive was premature although may turn out to be the final number.  The kids were told 1 positive on the team originally with was from associations on the golf team.  with Radford having a vax rate of less than 50% I would be surprised it was only 7 unvaccinated.  I personally know of 4 that didn't have it.

Radford starts back today for those that test negative.

I’ve had some kids come up thru the rec system in Giles the past few years and the Radford Junior league (4th/5th grade) teams were always really good (think they won like 3 NRV Super Bowls in a 5 year stretch maybe 4) but once they get to the Seniors they don’t continue that trend. I’ve heard some stuff about a few rec coaches that way that blew my mind.

Yes, the Junior coaches have been the same for a while and have done well.  I heard this year it didn't go as well.  You nailed the Senior league and even though he coached a championship win vs Narrows when this years high school seniors were playing, the assistants made the calls on offense and defense.  There is talent there and I hope we can get some changes made.

  8. I don't know about being "very" happy with the hire.   He seemed like the best candidate of the ones that were being interviewed.  It is yet to be seen how it will turn out.   He will be welcomed and I know the kids are waiting to interact with him (starting this week!) and interested to see how he will be.  The good news is there are kids that wouldn't play for Saunders that say they will play now which is good.    Crist has lots of work to do to rebuild the rec leagues.  The numbers there are dwindling and HC of the senior rec team is not knowledgeable so kids don't develop and get discouraged and don't play at the next level.  The rec leaders have been made aware but choose to not make any changes.  I think Saunders tried to be engaged in the rec programs but wasn't able to have much if any influence.   The basketball culture does interfere with football.  It's not intentional but it does.  Some of that was due to negative perception of Saunders so Crist will have a chance to change that.    All of the hires haven't been great, for example a change at AD could be a huge upgrade.

  9. I was surprised it took this long to hit the news.  He told the kids in the locker room after the Appo game.   As for timing, last year was supposed to be the state championship year but with the loss of 2 all-state and 2 all-region players to injuries, there just wasn't enough depth.  They exceeded expectations the year before that.  That group had dominated all through rec and JV.  This senior class was pretty special but had several kids who decided not to play.  I'm sure he wanted to see what he could do with and for them.  Next year the team will have talent but will be really young.  Matthew is a really good person and has been coaching for 30 years so I'm sure he has had plenty.  Sometimes you just need a break.    I'm concerned about who they get to replace him.  I personally don't have much faith in the Radford AD.

I got to watch the young man play Saturday and the kid is BIG. Only thing I seen that IMO I didn't like was that big and had several chances to run and pick up big yardage and chose not to. Maybe coach told him not to I don't know, but the kid looks pretty good.

I thought the exact same thing.  Multiple opptys to run with 10-15 yds in front of him and then throw a questionable pass.  Don't know if that is what he was told to do.   he was 10-25 on the day with 3 ints.  He's got a strong arm but I don't see the accuracy to be a pocket passer.  Radford couldn't get much pressure with 2 starting DEs not playing so he had lots of time.  Richlands receivers also couldn't create separation which didn't help him.

They had a great season.  If I heard correctly they only lose one player for next year.  I expect they’ll make another run at it next year.  Great program and tradition up there.  A Radford - Union matchup next season could be very likely to happen.

Correct.  Only lose Jon Woods (6pts and 8 boards/game) but will have the Prioleau kid back and 6-5 Mabry kid should be back.  If they had the Prioleau kid this year, they would have made it to the finals undefeated.  Probably still don't beat JM but would've been fun.  The four Juniors (Cormany, Kanipe, Prioleau, McManus) have only lost 5 games since Middle School  (4 this year and GC two years ago.)  With Prioleau that would probably been only 2 total to GC 2 yrs ago and JM this year.  The Radford JV only lost 1 game and has some talent.  Should make a run next year, maybe have a down year  then reload for a couple more.

Gate City just reloads on the basketball court.  Though no sane person would predict them to beat John Marshall, making it back to the state championship game after losing legitimate D1 prospects in back-to-back years is astounding.

Even through Radford didn't make to the final, they lost 2 D1 prospects and 7 seniors total from last years team and still almost made it back to the championship.  Someone said it before "Coaching means everything"

What does a relative posting it have to do with anything?

Some mentioned that it was crazy that video of the Radford games was being posted on youtube and they thought it was crazy they did that.  I was pointing out it wasn't Radford coaches but someone that is not part of the school or team.

I watched the last play. The ball sits in his hands at 0.0 before he got it off.  I wanted to see for myself. I ran it back like 20 times to make sure and the ball was in his hands at 0.0.

If you want to see it, it’s on YouTube  Actually all of Radford’s games are on YouTube. Kind of crazy they would put them up there but whatever floats your boat I guess.

As for the fouls that may or may not have been missed at the end of the game, how many missed shots at the basket were they?  How many offensive boards did a team get and score on that shouldn’t have been got?  It’s easy to say what happened at the end of the game determined the end but if the team or teams had done their job on other things during the game then what happened at the end might not have mattered.

Those are videoed and posted by a relative of one of the players so coaches don't have control.  I don't think they care for it but can't stop it.

  15. As a Radford fan that was probably a foul but they didn't call another 15 on Central earlier in the game so none of this matters.  Central's #22 should have been ejected from the game for running through two screens and aggressively shoving both players.  32 should've have had a technical for the disrespect he showed the refs when called for fouls.    the 2 fouls on #34 for Radford in the first half were terrible.  I've watched the clock, light and horn on the end shot and it is close but I think it was right.  If 32 makes that  last free throw then this doesn't matter.  One call doesn't decide the game.

In what I have witnessed this season it seems every time there is a big hit/great block away from the ball there is going to be a flag. It doesn't really matter about the legality of the hit.

All the ones I saw on the video were flagged as they should have been but they were dirty plays and need to stop.  It's going to take someone getting hurt and then the VHSL and schools getting sued before it is stopped.

Refs picked up the flag.  Managed to stop the game, talked some, then picked the flag up.  Remarkable officiating in Radford.

Fumble Radford!  Floyd recovers the Radford 42.  Radford is in big trouble and in danger of losing the number 1 seed in Region C to Appo if Radford loses tonight.

That flag was for too many men on the field and it the film confirms it should have been enforced.  Floyd had more penalties than Radford and majority were late or blindside shots.  Need to start kicking kids and coaches off the field when that starts happening.  it was very bad.
