Why are Richlands fans on here so butt hurt over losing to Graham???  I mean, we took our ass-whoopings from Richlands and didn't bitch about them having starters in when they shouldn't have...

Eye-roll on the "butt hurt" since hardly anything has been said to deserve that. Graham played a great game, good play calling, good skills, and they were fired up and ready to play. Richlands had some players that got gassed early due to recovering from Covid and some just played badly. Energy from Richlands was extremely poor. Congrats on the win! Graham should have a great season.

Wait a minute. There was an altercation at another game in Tazewell County? It had to be Tony Palmer's fault!😂 There's no way it could have been Coach Tarter's fault.

If my son was "attacked from the back" as you say. I would probably be asking myself what caused a farm boy from Gate City to do such a thing. Could it be that little Johnny's on the field shenigans caused such a reaction? Maybe precious little Johnny has been writing checks with his mouth that his a$! can't cash. Maybe we have been spitting on kids and said Gate City player had enough.

I cannot say what was said or done during the scramble for the ball - and I’m sure there was plenty from both sides - but I was there and saw the player get hit. The Richlands player was facing the home bleachers celebrating that they had the ball when he got hit in his back and everything broke loose.

Also for whoever is interested, the principal and dad of the Richlands player was professional. He was calm, which I give him props for since his son was involved, and he did not approach the GC player. Richlands AD and others were on the field at the same time. Players and crowd were going wild, but adults on the field actually acted like adults.

There is a coach who tested positive early this week and won’t coach tomorrow night — but that was known days ago and shouldn’t affect anything.

I think this is another coach from yesterday, but I’d still say you are right and it won’t change anything.

    Good take and true

Since you agreed with BigWinners, here is a copy of my response to him. Seems like y'all just looking to get messy...  Peace out and good luck if your team is still ballin'...

"Actually, if you read my entire post and without a clear disposition against Richlands, you will plainly see (as in my quote from my post below) that my concern was that this could happen to any students and that I disagree with rules being changed at the end of the season.

ANY team could easily be in the same position that the Richlands STUDENTS

If Ridgeview is in the same predicament, then I hate it for them just as well. This particular thread that you are commenting on is about Richlands, but perhaps you should take the initiative to start one for ANY teams affected by the rules being changed at the end of the season. If you don’t want to read about Richlands, don’t open a thread with Richlands in the title."

Wait so you're okay with the STUDENTS of other schools being screwed OVER as long as IT'S not Richlands?

Awesome TAKE there. No one is taking anything away FROM Richlands. Before this week, they were out OF the playoffs. They JUST didn't have A chance to play themselves IN, they were not taken OUT because of this situation.

It's very telling how some of you are so indignant and righteous about Richlands being left out but didn't say a peep when Ridgeview, who got screwed WAY WAY worse than Richlands, had their shot at the playoffs taken.

  6. IF the rules were changed AFTER the official rules were established AND during the last of the regular season, THEN it is inappropriate. I understand that all of the schools had a representative involved, but ANY team could easily be in the same position that the Richlands STUDENTS were suddenly thrown into during the final week of regular season. Remember the students???? The ones this situation hurts the most??? Set an example, people, and stand up for the kids. If they go out in an early round, then so be it, but why take their round away?

  7. I understand and agree with Covid precautions and game cancellations, and for the most part, our region has been fortunate regarding quarantines and cancellations up to now. (I know there are been a lot of horrible  illness and greater consequences, but let's keep the page to football.)

But what reason has been given for all of the rule changes? Shouldn’t the rules and criteria for playoffs be set BEFORE the season? How can this happen?

For the person who said why play Radford if it doesn’t count… 1-like someone said, for the experience, and 2-the first Graham game was not supposed to count, and now it does… maybe the rules will change again. Precedent has been set multiple times this week.

I’m going with graham in this one. All there is to beating Richlands is containing Webb. In my opinion from watching them against the dogs, Logan Steele is just as much of a threat is Webb is. Contain them 2, and you have them beat. Cause god forgive me, but all you have to do is get Cox out of the pocket and it’s over. I’m going with Graham 35-17

Richlands has improved across the board since their first meeting with Graham, and I don't usually count them out, however, I agree with you. Cox is one-dimensional, and Graham will take the win.

What is this gibberish? Make sense.

To better clarify because I agree, I could have been more clear. The participants on both the Tazewell and Richlands teams, and even Graham, know each other fairly well. It’s a small area and many of them run in the same social circles and have competed for years both against each other and sometimes with each other. They are very  aware of the other’s strengths and weaknesses athletically. I would love to see them come out and see who can play the better football game. I know emotions and adrenaline run high, and all teams have their bad moments, but I was disappointed to see some of Tazewell’s behavior in the last game. They were a lot better skill-wise than Marion, but speaking only my opinion, they are better people than what they demonstrated on the field. If you’ve watched the game, then you will know what I’m talking about.

Listening to the game, Cox didn't have time to do anything.  Grahams Dline (Fritz in particular) was on him just about every play before he had time to do anything.  Richlands needs to sure up their line play for sure.  Can't put it all on Cox at all.

Coach Wells said on the weekly radio show that they worked on that this week in practice, so we should see an improvement on Saturday. I think a lot of the weaknesses we saw last week could be attributed to first game scenario and it was against Graham, but Cox is still going to have to move and react faster. I don't want to be down on anybody's kid, though, so hopefully, that is just a first game thing.

Only in school divisions who are choosing to go against state guidelines. The state guidelines specify band and cheer to be considered spectators.

I could be wrong, but I don't think JV teams are even allowed to be there. Richlands put out a long list of rules today that includes the home band sitting in the softball area and visiting band on the tennis courts. Band parents are allowed to bring lawn chairs and sit in those areas, but are not allowed in the stands. Ten feet between cheerleaders. Spectators must sit in specially marked seats 6' apart, not take off their masks, and so on.

  12. QBs, both have skills, but are very different. After last year, I'd say it comes down to athleticism and who holds up best under pressure. Richlands lost a lot of seniors last year, and this Graham group has played together a long time and has a former Richlands coach now. It is the game to watch this Saturday and a total wildcard. And the battle of the D1 prospects, both are excellent, but I'd bet on Webb.

  13. QBs, it's going to be interesting as both have skills, but are very different. It may come down to athleticism and who holds up best under pressure, and of course, who fits Well's style of playing better. Being a non-district game, we can expect both coaches to try out some people in different positions in effort to create depth for prospective quarantines down the road. Richlands lost a lot of seniors last year, and this Graham group has played together a long time and now has a former Richlands coach. It is the game to watch this Saturday and a total wildcard. Oh and the battle of the D1 prospects. Webb over Bradshaw.
