  1. Tazewell is the new Tazewell County team that you are not allowed to have negative opinions about on this board. "It was 17-8" in the second half and Richlands-Union was only "14-0" in the second half. Richlands still got dominated and no one, big "R" pic or not would say otherwise.
  2. As stated above, this is a really shitty take from a usually shittyposter. TV had the best season in school history last year, an August coaching change, and the worst flooding the area had ever seen. Sucks they cancelled their season but this is not going to make or break anyone's season, except their own. The folks at Twin Valley have built that program up from nothing in a decade and this is very unfortunate. Its hard to get your "empathy" in this message when you are busy bashing them for something they had no control over. I very much doubt Crigger, or anyone else in that program wanted to shut down their team after one game, but it is what it is. Also why cancel the season after the flooding? That was an awful time for the community, and cancelling the program in July or August would've only made it worse.
  3. Last year people whined about Graham running up the score on Richlands and I’m fairly certain they didn’t score in the second half. I expect a similar situation this year, Graham 49 Richlands 0
  4. Twin Valley is going to follow up their best season ever with a horrible campaign. Holston may be becoming one of those programs that you can’t sleep on. What a good story in Damascus.
  5. I also don’t know how much of this you can put on Tarter. I think the talent pool has been drying up in Richlands for a while, Mance saw the writing on the wall and fled to save his own reputation. I don’t know how many coaches could do a better job with the talent the Blues have. Tarter wins the games he should win, in his tenure I think the Blues have won every game they should have and outside of tonight, Graham, Abingdon, and Ridgeview (rs) they’ve played better than expected in games where they’re underdogs.
  6. As bad as the Blues looked tonight they can still finish 2nd in this district. There’s not a whole lot separating the likes of Richlands, Tazewell, Marion, and Virginia, but there is a huge gulf between those four and the Federales. RL has the toughest schedule in SWVA and that benefitted them last year when they nearly upset Ridgeview. I see Richlands being 1-5 against Tazewell. That game will decide the rest of their season.
  7. In the nearly 300 games Mance was in Richlands, the Blues were shut out 7 times. In the post-Mance era Richlands has been shut out 4 out of 19 games.
  8. Outplayed in every aspect. And it doesn’t get easier until the Backyard Brawl.
  9. Richlands is going to be 1-5 going into the Tazewell game. Bulldogs are going to be 2-4 or 3-3.
  10. We joked about Graham being Alabama and Tazewell being Tennessee, but I think Graham is Clemson and the rest of the SWD is the ACC. Not a very good district after the Feds.
  11. Is this with Honaker or is the BDD now just the Buchanan schools?
  12. Going to be a long night for the home Tazewell County teams based on first drives.

  14. The clear weaknesses are heavy divisions such as the Tazewell+Bluefield division and Wise County’s against empty divisions like the Far SWVA division, but this system would probably create more compelling football for county/countyline rivalries plus keeping nearly everyone in the playoff hunt all year long.
  15. 32 team NFL-style SWVAFL this is not ideal and places geography above school population size but hear me out: two conferences (Clinch and Holston) Clinch runs from Wise County across to Wythe County basically Northern SWVA Holston runs from Lee to Smyth, Southern SWVA Clinch North- Richlands, Tazewell, Graham, Bluefield (great division, 3 of these schools have been contenders for the better part of the past 20 years) Clinch South- Union, Central, Burton, Eastside (the Wise Co. schools stay together, there have been years where 1A Burton would be 2nd in this division) Clinch East- George Wythe, Rural Retreat, Ft. Chiswell, Bland (not great but the Wythe County schools are usually above average) Clinch West- Southern Gap (Buchanan County High School), Mount View, River View, Ridgeview (Dickenson runs this division, SG could be decent with the right staff and the WV schools are natural rivals for most of this conference) Holston North- Lebanon, Castlewood, Honaker, and Twin Springs (Russell schools together plus TS, Honaker has been great more often that not in the past 20 years and Lebanon is an underachiever that should fix that) Holston South- Abingdon, Virginia, Holston, Battle (Falcons and Bearcats run this division, with Holston and Battle picking up the scraps of the Greater Bristol division) Holston East- Patrick Henry, Chilhowie, Northwood, Marion (Chilhowie and PH provide two very good programs to this division) Holston West- Lee, Rye Cove, Thomas Walker, Gate City (the Devils and Generals compete for the West crown on a near yearly basis) this is also somewhat future proof, if consolidation happens in Tazewell, Russell, Washington, Smyth, Scott, you simply either expand eastwards into Carroll, Grayson counties or try to pick up some NETN or EKY schools. Obviously this will never happen but…
  16. Marion over Chilhowie Richlands’ dominance Tazewell dismantling VA High
  17. Graham Crimson Tide 42 Tazewell Volunteers 20 Corso dons the Big G-Al pregame much to the dismay of the Volunteer Navy on Lake Witten.
  18. Richlands power run will be tested, and we will find out if there is anything resembling a passing game from Richlands. Blues control the clock and keep the ball out of the more talented Bear-paws as much as possible, Union’s talent wins out in the end. Bears 20 Blues 14 in something more reminiscent of the early “The Game” series between these two teams.
  19. Richlands can probably still be in the conversation for 2nd in the SWD with Tazewell. Brown is not going to have 250+ yards every game and there was really nothing shown by Simmons to make you feel one way or the other about his QB-ing. If teams can stop the rush for Richlands, I don’t think that QB is winning them any games. We will know how 1 dimensional the Blues are after the Union game next week. The Blues upcoming slate is brutal v. Union, at Graham, at Abingdon, v. Bluefield, at Ridgeview. You can be as optimistic as you want but hard to see them winning any of those games. 1-5 going into the Backyard Brawl might be the expectation. Based on last night, I do think Richlands beats Marion and VA High and I don’t know that Tazewell’s run defense is going to be tough enough against Brown and that O-line to win that game. At the same time, Richlands’ defense seemed vulnerable at times last night, which Tazewell can and should exploit much better than GC. That game as it has been for the last 2 meetings should go down to the wire, and that game will determine second place in the SWD.
  20. If Richlands runs the ball like they should, they pull this off. If they get caught back up in Manceball then this one is a blowout. I am standing by my original pick of GC 21-RL 17 though.
