I’ll agree with you but I don’t exactly remember him staying in the paint and rarely playing help defense and when he has the only guard I’ve seen that doesn’t seem to be bothered by Garrett’s size is Ethan Collins and that’s why I feel like Collins is the best player in the region. Not trying to knock Garrett at all he is a great player with a tremendous amount of athleticism and is probably tied for second with Reece in the region. But unfortunately since it’s politics he will get it because he is the most talented senior in the region while Collins is a junior and Reece is a sophomore

Also almost pretty safe to say that Reece has POY locked for the SWD. Tim Hayes posted stats for some of the teams in the regional contests and the two guys with the most ppg is Mozell and Reece while Mozell is also averaging 4 assist. Reece is also averaging 4 assists to go along with 12.2 rpg 2.4 bpg and 2.1 spg. For anyone else wondering Collins and Garrett’s stats - Collins 20 ppg 8 rpg 5 apg (most aassist in the region from these stats) and also has two triple doubles on the year. Garrett 21 ppg 7 rpg

Not necessarily true. Last year in the Hogo they gave POY to Jake Hall who was on a PH team that finished third in the district

Will be Garrett because he is a senior with Ethan Collins being runner up. SWD don’t really know who it will be. Could be Mozell from V High or it could be Lambert or Reece from Lebanon

Been a rough couple of days In Lebanon. Very disappointed that RCPS didn’t close Lebanon nor the Vocational School. Aaron was loved by many of the students at RCCTC and student athletes at Lebanon

Plus the fact the Virginia Highs court is a terrible place for a shooting team

I don’t think gunner Garrett is even the best player in his district let alone the region. Ethan Collins should be district player of the year but it’s all politics and will let the senior Garrett win it. In the SWD you have Lee and Mozell who are the most athletic players in the region from V High. Lebanon has Lambert who is averaging almost 20 ppg and Reece who is averaging a double double. Graham has ray who is probably the second best pg in the region (mozell)

Both of the 2/3 games are a coin flip RV v V High should be all Virginia High. The one that could get interesting is the GC and Marion game. If Marion comes out with a hot start (which they’ve seemed to be doing as of late) I just don’t see Gate City being able to respond when they get punched in the mouth

I mean I would like for there to be a clear favorite in the region but I feel like any of the these games you’d have a better chance to flip a coin on it instead of guessing who wins. I’d say the one team that is slowly starting to pull away from the pack is V High with GC close behind and the other 4 teams even closer behind

Well the best time of the year is upon us. What’s everyone thoughts on the upcoming season? Will Battle and Lebanon clash it out for the 2d region tourney or is there a dark horse? Will Chilhowie be able to adjust nicely to Lebanon leaving 1a and beat eastside and Rural Retreat for 1d? Would love to know what everyone thinks

Most definitely not the same team. Union only beat them by one with a banged up starting 5. Beat Graham after a starter quit. And was in a dogfight against Graham all night tonight. Would I still give Union the edge? Barely. Still a game where it could be a coin flip

What will the region semis look like? Is it the winner of SWD 2 and M7 3 plays the winner of GC and SWD 4

Lebanon cruises by tazewell 73-55. Plays Graham on Friday at Virginia High at 6 and the night cap is Marion vs. V High. Both games could swing either way

Really interesting matchup will be if Marion can be Richlands. I think if they do they have a solid shot at beating Virginia high the 4th time around

Oddly enough most schools in our area are “baseball schools” but yet the community is still all about football. Main example: Lebanon. Everyone thinks because we were amazing back in the late 90s early 2000s that we have a great football program. We’ve won one playoff game in the past 15ish years. Meanwhile the baseball team has won 20+ games in 4 of the last 5 years (Went 19-0 during Covid). But yet the only time you’ll see people at games that aren’t parents is when the state tourney roles around.

Also saw that. Didn’t trip anyone. I think it was a flop but I also think there was enough contact for there to be an offensive foul called. Also didn’t have anything to do with the guy sliding and rolling on the floor. 2 out of the 3 refs were also the crew that also had a horrible non walk call during the Leb and Union game when Anderson took 8 steps with the ball when there was 8 seconds left. A game which Lebanon lost by one

Watched it on nfhs. How did they not call a walk when there was 4 seconds left? The kid slid about 4 feet with the ball in his hands

Definitely safe to say that of the 6 teams that are actual contenders to win the region; the only one everyone can pick to win is whoever they’re a fan of

Weren’t the coaches somehow involved with that little scuffle between Graham and Tazewell last year?

I’d put them above Union pretty easily they beat them once already and lost by 1 with a bunch of starters pretty banged up. Then that puts you in the conundrum of how Union has beat honaker 3 times and are 2-1 against lebanon. I’d say 1-10 could beat anyone on any night (excluding chilhowie).

I know Marion beat Graham but I don’t think they’re the third best team. They got boat raced by Lebanon once and made it a closer game the second time. Got beat by ph and beat by v high 3 times.
