Do they win more than they did previously? They were playing in Class 2 under the previous coaching staff. In my opinion, they are a mediocre Class 2 program competing in Class 1. But that's just my opinion.
Yeah, I guess they’re more consistent. There were some two and three win seasons under the last staff, and now they have back to back 8-0 starts, but little to no postseason success. I know that the opinions of the people in GC that are very important are still thrilled to have him, but as an outsider, I think it hasn’t gone that great for them, and I don’t think it’s getting better soon. How much longer do you think he has to turn things around in the playoffs?
When does the James hire at GC start looking like a bad one? They win more than they did previously, but they’re not paying him that much to go 8-2 and go out in the second round. I think if they were going to win it all, last year was the year. This year’s team likely won’t be as good as last year’s, and as it turned out, last year’s team wasn’t great.
More evidence the state set-up with 6 classifications is watered down as hell. Region 1C is hot garbage outside of Auburn and GW. Parry McCluer and Narrows are decent and deserving of a playoff berth but Bath, Galax, Grayson and Eastern Montgomery are awful basketball teams and wholly undeserving of postseason play.
I’m interested to see how Grayson does against Narrows. They’ve looked very good against GW on Wednesday and against Galax on Friday. I guess it’s possible Narrows blows them out, but I wouldn’t be suprised to see Grayson pull off the upset.
It sounds like Eastside’s Azzy Hammons is headed to J.I. Burton. I know for at least the last two years, the BHC has released an article detailing all the transfers for the upcoming year, and it seems like a lot of them are in Region D. This is not to say that it only happens there, but I’m curious. Why does it happen so much out there, and is it a problem?
Definitely agree with this especially - Jeff Williams getting 0 - that program is in shambles over there.
I know there are Giles people on here with better intel than me, but from an outsider’s perspective they looked really good to end the year. Could’ve upset #1 Grayson. They only lost by 8 to either the state champ or runner up. They had a tough middle of the season, but I thought they turned a corner at the end and were playing better. Not disagreeing with you. I don’t know enough about their situation to make a decision. Just want to know what’s wrong, and what everyone’s idea for how to fix it is.
Radford will be able to score on Riverheads. This won’t be Riverheads completely shutting them down for four quarters. Radford will be in control for parts of the game. I think Riverheads ultimately wins. They’re used to being there, and I think that will be the difference.
I get what you are saying but man what message are they sending. What's next petition to play in the MED?
Yeah like I said, I see why some say it’s cowardly. I get it. Hokiebird brought up a good point about concessions being gone. I didn’t think of that, and that is a tough blow to a group that could’ve been depending on that money. As for the message, I don’t think there was anyone at Blacksburg who thought they had a chance. Hate to see any team do it. Hoping they can build on a little success they had this year and get to a point where doing this isn’t a thought.
2 times in 3 years. Maybe hire better coaches and build your program back rather than give it to a good ole boy who sucked at Carroll County and let him destroy your program.
Blacksburg has shown improvement from year one to year two under Zack Leonard. I think they’re trying to get there. They played Salem last year and determined that it wasn’t worth it this year. For the record, I’m not dying on the Blacksburg hill, I just see why they did what they did.
I understand why this is frowned upon by some, but what does either team gain? The question isn’t if Salem wins, it’s if they hit 100. A loss like that could stop kids from coming out to play for Blacksburg next year. They’ve won a couple games, they have no shot here, I don’t blame them for packing it up.
This is assuming a 1A team in North Carolina or West Virginia (like Alleghany who lost to Grayson or Richwood who lost to Bath County) is credited as a win over a 1A team.
Also assuming a win over Roanoke Catholic (Bath County beat them) equates to a win over a 2A team considering they are Class 2 in VISAA and have Class 2 enrollment
I don't think this is going to be competitive but I wasn't going to pass up the opportunity to make that joke in the thread title
Agree that Radford is probably going to run away with it. However, as someone relatively new to the site and SWVA football as a whole, why does Crist get so much hate?
What are everyone’s thoughts here? Both are drastically different teams since the last time they met. I also believe game time has been pushed back to 8pm for anyone interested in attending.
Didn't gwhythe graduate a lot from last years squad?
1. Grayson
2. Giles
3. G Whythe
4. Galax
5. Fort Chiswell
George Wythe graduated some very good players from last year’s squad, but there is no way Giles tops them this year. Despite graduating some very key players, they still have the potential to be back in Salem this year.
