Grundy would have gotten slaughtered that year too. Gretna was absolutely loaded. Returned almost everyone from the previous year that beat Graham. If it weren't for the Gmen moving Bradshaw to wideout and him being a one man show, that score would have been embarassing too. Boy that was fun to watch though, Bradshaw showed just how good he really was that day.
yeah thats easy to say but impossible to prove...Grundy had their best defense in years that year....would have given Gretna a much better game than Tazewell (who Grundy had just beat the hell out of a couple of weeks earlier...along with Va High as well)...but, we'll never know because the refs in the Va High game took that off the table for all involved and sent Grundy home, Va High didn't even get across the 50 yard line that entire game until OT put them in the red zone automatically and Grundy had 2 or 3 TD's called back....so...say and think what you want but it is what it is.
They also said that same Grundy team would get blown out at Collinsville by all the "track stars" on that team and Grundy went down there and hung 21 points on them in the first quarter before they knew what hit them and closed out that schools history with a loss.
Covington and Radford were VERY good teams. By the 2nd round only good teams are left.
I wouldnt say Haysi struggled. a couple of mistakes o a kickoff and one of the most incredible ints ive ever seen made the game look a lot closer than it was. Haysi put a whoopin on Covington.
As far as Radford/Honaker, Radords strength(their speed) is Honakers weakness. Honaker wont see a faster team the rest of the way, maybe bigger stronger or better but not faster
Radfod was better coming in to the playoffs than people thought or their record showed...they just got it rolling at the right time...Honaker did well to get past them. This was the week that I was worried about Honaker getting upset.
I've heard all year Altavista will win State...should be interesting next couple of weeks.
Graham lost in '02 to Grundy in the R4D3 title game at Mitchell (yep, 2-3 inches of standing snow on the field).
Graham lost in '03 to Gretna in the D3 semifinals at Mitchell (Bradshaw's last year).
2004 was the Grundy/Virginia High coup. Grundy was by far the best team in R4D3 that year, and it led to a very, very mediocre Tazewell team getting downright slaughtered in the 2004 D3 semifinals.
that makes sense...I have to remember the class of 04 plays its football in 03...and so on!
If im not mistaken, that was when Gretna came there? I know bradshaw and I were class of '04 and he beat me in the regional championship our senior year. so that must have been the state semi game.
I thought 04 is the year we lost to Va High 6-0 at Grundy? I was thinking it was 02 when Grundy beat them at Graham in the snow then lost at Bedford the next week.
There was room in the press box, Lloyd just wanted to try it from the field house once...he's talked about doing it for years and never has...after trying it out i doubt he'll ever do it again lol...said he couldn't see much of anything.
well of course, Sayers is a Hall of Famer...I was just saying it's pretty cool that AB might actually pass him on the list... (in another 120 or so yards)
The whole list is pretty interesting to look at, lots of QB's on there that are higher than you might think....etc.
...and don't get me wrong, I love going to Richlands for a game every now and then...beautiful field and great lighting...but you know every now and then it's nice (and fun) to watch a game out in the elements...whatever they might be...that's what makes football great, and the more extreme the better.
For those kids that played last night I'm sure there are a lot of games that they wouldn't really remember from this season that were played on a perfect surface...but, none of them will forget playing in that game last night...which otherwise, would have been just another forgettable and boring blowout.
Really......cleat gate again.......is that all you can say.......you know, I don't think there were a lot of the Blues fans complaining, as a matter of fact, a lot of us were saying how we use to enjoyed playing in the mud and snow and other bad conditions ! I think you need to go back and reread the thread. No Richlands fan complained on here. Razor was just saying what Mance had said, and I think any good coach would be worried about his players in those conditions the week before the playoffs.
Nothing to worry about, except maybe getting mud in the eye? I don't think any humans were harmed in the playing of the game.
bunch of pics from the game if anyone wants to see the mud.
I don't know what the complaining is all about, the Richlands kids seemed to enjoy it as much as the Grundy kids did last night...I know when I played, I would have loved it. They were sliding around in it after the game.
Seen both teams play, I think it's going to be a great game. Honaker seems to me to have more depth across the board...I think that will be the difference. Should be a good game. Grundy plays on Thursday so I'm going to try to go and take pics if I can work it out.

under rated, yes...how can he not be "one of" because you never hear anything about him...he just went out and did his job, and got results...was never really a houshold name maybe other than a year or so with the Chiefs where he got some recognition.
You look at the thousands of people who have played in the NFL and to be in the top 25 of anything is a pretty good accomplishment.
Link to the list...they update it every week by Wed.
