  1. Easy one for me, '94 Narrows at Fort Chiswell. "The Immaculate Receptions" with a little over 2 mins to go to win the district, and set the tone for a Regional title run. A game they trailed the whole way up to that point. Still got a copy of that game to this day.
  2. Nope, I watched him play many times and in all those final fours. Out of this trips to the final four, how many did UNC win? Out of 4 trips to Charlottesville to play a completely undermanned UVa team, how many wins did they come up with in that span? Turnovers in big games against the press killed Cota. Just going on results. As far as the topic goes, 7 on 7 doesn't mean jack squat unless you're planning to play in a college intramural league. However, any kind of good practice at all is good I guess in this case for the whole passing thing. But I think you'd get a better read on a team from the summer drills than from the 7-on-7.
  3. Yes, it does because when ran with the right people, it's a damn good offense. But JM didn't have the line or the SE to compliment it. The Weir game really made that stand out. But it doesn't matter what offense they could have ran that day. JM was just flatout outmanned.
  4. That's easy. Ed Cota. Anytime the heels went up against any kind of pressure D, he cracked. See his 3 losses at UVa for example.
  5. Yeah, has the coached caved under the pressure to drop the single wing?
  6. Yeah, poor UVA. They lost out on the 2nd most overrated UNC point guard in the in 90's and average at best on the college level QB. Poor hoos. Also, whatever happened to Travis Turner. He was QB at Appalachia as a freshman when Narrows lost to them in the state semi's. I know he transferred to Clinch Valley but what happened from there? And another thing, from what I remember Vick's number 1 for a long time was Syracuse. The only thing that kept him from going there was the turf of the Carrier Dome.
  7. Exactly. The season before last, Narrows almost had as many fans there in Pocahontas as all the other combined. It almost sounded like Ragsdale Field when Narrows and PikeView took the field.
  8. Also due to probs with this computer, I can't get adobe to d/l. Would someone please post the Narrows schedule?
  9. So basically Wyatt is running the same offense at Tazewell he tried to run at Pocahontas I take it.
  10. The Narrows/Fort Chiswell game will be in Narrows this year.
  11. Is the Sept. 23 game with Giles at WC or at Giles?
  12. Yeah and Narrows got screwed at Giles in 1989 and at James Monroe in 1994. Giles got it at JM in the late '90s and JM got it at Giles quite a few times in the '90s. But you dont see any of those fans still complaining. You got another season around the bend. Are you fans from Grundy gonna let the VA High loss eat at you all next year? The fact it's irked ya for this long is just sad.
  13. But the reason you only lead 7-6 after 3 quarters last year wasn't because of the single wing. It the lack of execution on the line and also from Narrows controling the clock when they had the football. The weak side of the d-line for JM was very weak by their own standards. Another question off topic though. Does JM plan on adding Giles back into the regular season schedule in the future? It's always nice to get a gate like that.
  14. If West Virginia's season starts the same week as Virginia's then they start thier season at Narrows, VA.
  15. From what I understand, It's to be held in Narrows.
  16. Should be a good gage for Narrows to see where they are at. Even though it is pre-season and things are still very vanilla for both teams this could be interesting. Narrows will have Tazewell one week then host James Monroe to start the regular season.
  17. I'm thinking Narrows has James Monroe at Narrows in week 1. Good gate game to start off the year.
  18. Nice easy win after last night's great game with James Monroe in Narrows (56-55). I will say that those guys look completely different from last year and the two new coaches are doing a hell of a job so far as I can tell. Narrows is now 5-0 with wins also over Floyd Co., Giles, and East Mont so far. The rest of the schedule looks like this for now: East Mont at home and Craig Co. away on make up dates Dec. 17 GILES Dec. 21 @ James Monroe Jan. 4 @ Grayson Co. Jan. 7 POCAHONTAS Jan. 8 @ Floyd Co. Jan. 11 @ Bland Co. Jan. 14 @ Galax Jan. 18 FORT CHISWELL Jan. 21 GRAYSON CO. Jan. 25 @ Pocahontas Jan. 28 BLAND CO. Feb. 1 GALAX Feb. 4 @ Fort Chiswell So far, it's looking like the most talented team to come out of Narrows in decades. All the guys 1-12 can come in-out with little to no dropoff. Perfectly able to run all day and showed in the second half against JM and tonight they can work it to the post with ease if they ran their offense. Another thing that will help them out this year comared to years past is that they have 5-6 people that can rebound very well (outrebounded East Mont 41-22). And judging from the rest of the MED, it's going to be wide open race and don't be surprised to see a team with 3-4 district loses win the regular season race. It's gonna be a shame the MED can't send more than 2 teams to regionals.
  19. Matewan 45 Bland Co. 6 according to various media outlets
  20. according to Roanoke Times Friday's paper had the scrimmage schedule for most of the teams in their coverage area in the scorecard part of the sports section.
  21. Check my post on VA Preps. I'm thinking another school in the same county has them beat by a good bit as far as number of wins.
  22. Also check into the record of Gate City. I saw a similar list on VA Preps that had them pretty high up.
  23. Of course I'll go chime in with my take on Narrows' schedule. 1) Giles - Returning a lot and a frontrunner for TRD this coming year. Plus a rivalry game with always high emotions. 2) James Monroe - Pretty much the same as Giles but I do see Giles as having a slightly better team this year. 3 & 4) Fort Chiswell & Grayson Co. - Grayson always has the numbers (still think they should have been in AA div 4 in the Highlands a long time ago) and Fort gave us the best game of the year in district. I see losing Grubb as a good thing for Fort because of him being so irratic. 5) Galax - Nelson and Porter should be able to carry this team a little bit. If the o-line gets good at opening holes for Nelson they could compete with a lot of people. Thier lack of defense is what's going to get them in the end. 6) Auburn - They've seemed to reach a steadiness in the program now and just need to take the next step. But, I'm going on gut feeling here since I don't follow TRD football and don't know what these guys have coming back. 7) Craig Co. - Hancock at TB is the only reason I got them this high. If he transfers to Salem as rumored then they go do to the bottom with Bland and Pocy. 8) East Mont. - New coach and no Josh Smith. Definately a rebuilding year for these guys. But I think McPherson taught those kids how to win some big games (Narrows and Floyd for examples) and every game this year is going to be big just because of their district. 9) Bland Co. - Philip Henson will be the fire power for them at RB. Until their coach learns to control his teams temperment they won't win anything. 10) Pocahontas - Simply no numbers to draw from. The guys there have heart though as shown by the guys that keep coming out regardless of everything. Plus losing their coach to Tazewell don't help matters much either. For Narrows, the have some people they can move around. If Wes Underwood can get comfortable at QB and the line overachieves then the offense should be able to move the ball. On defense, I don't think they'll as solid as the last couple years but with the young talent they have coming through they'll be back to normal after a year of learning to play as a unit. Going with 5-5/6-4 year with Giles, JM, Grayson and Fort being the tough ones and Craig, East Mont, Bland and Pocy as should wins. The games at Auburn and Galax at home should determine if we can grab a playoff spot.
