  1. Mavahi goes to the championship game against R.E. Lee-Staunton Sat. night with a hard fought win. The Dogs led by as many as 15 in the second half but held off a furious Bengal rally to win. Bassett had two shots to tie at the end but came up short. Congrats to both teams, you have done the PD and Martinsville & Henry Co. proud this year!!!
  2. The paper said that he was the Soutwest Dist. Coach of the year in 1985.Also was he the coach at Summers Co. the past few years? We were told that he had been out of coaching for a few years. The administration said that they had over 40 applicants for the job and that he was head and shoulders above the rest.
  3. At the Henry Co. school board meeting last night (Thurs. March 2) the replacement for Coach Beckleheimer was named. He is John Curia, and the local paper says he is coming to MV from Summers Co. HS in W.Va. The paper goes on to say he has 22 yrs. head coaching experience and that he has taken 2 different Va. schools to state championship games,Orange Co. in 1992(AA) and Dinwiddie HS in 2000(AAA).My question to anyone who knows, what style of Off. and Def. will he bring to MV and also any other imfo you can give us Warrior fans about our new coach would be greatly appreciated!!
  4. Norseman, Sorry about being whinny, didn't know it would upset you so.No anti-Mavahi bias here, been going to the gym on Cleveland Ave. to watch the Dogs play since before you were born(probably). Dm and myself have known each other for years and just like to get on here and give each other a hard time.As far as cheerleading and wearing a skirt, well that would probably be a very ridiculous site but, you are welcomed to come over and try and put one on me if you think you can. Dm, hope ya'll had a safe trip back from Abingdon. This is one MV fan who will see you at Bassett tommorow. The Falcon fans weren't to happy afterwards about the Dogs strategy(almost saw a fight in the parking area after the game), but the key this time of the year is just like Jimmy V used to say"Survive and advance"!! Good luck against the Bengals, should be another good one.
  5. IMO I would think you would be asking for info on Carroll Co. before you look ahead to Abingdon. Not planning on just skipping the trip to Hillsville are you??
  6. Great atmosphere also tonight at the game. The cheering back and forth between the crowd, the flag waving(by the way I'm glad Finney let the young boys run with the flag some tonight, that's alot of running at 70plus). Also I'm glad to see MV isn't the only school that has 250 coaches who know more than the man on the sidelines does. The Bulldog faithful second guess everything even what cheers the cheerleaders do!! By the way Ashmond now is officially the Bulldogs go to guy!! See you in Carroll Co. and hopefully back at Bassett next Saturday night(a good possibilty, don't you think?)
  7. It's great that everyone you talked to said he swung at the ref. Sitting there with 2 other MV coaches and looking right at the incident no more than 30 feet away, one the ref grabbed at him as he walked by, 2 I don't think the boy even knew who it was that grabbed him and 3 he didn't swing at the ref he swung to get someone off of him that had grabbed him. I know that we are talking semantics here but you make it sound like he stood toe to toe with the ref and took a roundhouse swing at him and that just didn't happen. By the way, what do you think of the very good officiating that we are blessed with here in the PD (as you say) that we had in the championship game tonight. Boy they were some of the best you had all year I guess. By the way congrats to the Dogs on the win in a very exciting game tonight 64-61. I guess that last play was just how Coach Wells drew it up in the huddle wasn't it???LOL
  8. G-Man, won't Mavahi be playing Carroll Co. in the first round of the regionals instead of Grundy. At least that was what I was told by the Bulldogs AD tonight. Just wondering, trying to make my travel plans for next week!!
  9. Seems like you have some inside imformation on the subject DM, some refs tell you this or is this speculation on your part. The kid was upset that the Mavahi player had him around the head in a loose ball situation and shoved him. He was given a "T" like he should have been but as he was walking away to his bench a good 30 to 40 feet away from the incident the ref reached out to grab him as he walked by and the kid shoved his arm away from him, he didn't swing at the ref. He was ejected(and he should have been), and the suspension for this type of ejection is 2 games. The ref who made this call is well known in this area as one who does not keep control of games very well, I've witnessed several times where things start to get out of hand and instead of taking control of the situation he sticks the whisle in his pocket and disappears. One the kid got what he deserved for his actions,Two he didn't swing at the ref, and three the punishment did fit the crime. If you are privy to some conspiracy by the refs to unfairly call a game against MV, I would think it would be your duty as the head scorekeeper of the Bulldogs(or is that LD, I get ya'll confused LOL) to let the proper officials know. If we play ya'll in the semi's and big Apple walks out before the game,I'll just let Kevin and the kids know it's time to go home!!!
  10. This was not about the ineligible player incident, this was a result of another incident that happened in the same 2003 season and then the ineligible player deal happened after that. All of this happened I think as a result of a very bad personality conflict between a very good but strong willed coach and a administration not able or willing to bend in any situation. They were just waiting for Coach B to spit on the sidewalk and they were going to get rid of him. As I understand his coaching contract is seperate from his teaching one, and they are able to terminate his contract at anytime without him having any say so. As Supt. Dodson said in the paper, the courts don't run the school system, her and the school board do. Do I think it's right or fair to him, heck no, he is a good coach and the kids respect and play hard for him, but the bottom line is that this was a power play from the beggining on the part of the admin. and they jumped the gun in dismissing him as quickly as they did. But with that being said, he really has no other option but to re-apply for the job and hope they will re-hire him. And if you think they will, I've got some beach front property in Ridgeway I will sell you real cheap also!!!
  11. MV 34 CC14. It was 14-7 at halftime but then MV completely dominated the 2nd half scoring on 3 out of 4 possesions in the second half(and missing a short field goal on the other)Carroll had 1 good drive in the first half resulting in their score and then didn't really move the ball again until they scored with 10 seconds to go in the game.As far as individual stats No. 6 for Carroll ran the ball well and the QB played well. For MV No.'s 4,9,11,and 33 ran well and the QB threw the ball well but had a few dropped in the cold weather. Good game for the Warriors!
  12. Wish we still could be playing Richlands also,BigD. I, like you thought that the MV-Richlands annual playoff game was becoming a very good, hard-fought but respectful rivalry. I miss not being able to come to Ernie Hicks or welcoming ya'll to "The Hole" this year, but good luck in the playoffs, I wish ya'll much success. CC comes to the friendly confines of downtown Ridgeway next week. MV is 6-4 for the year with losses to Franklin Co.,GW-Danville(in 3 ot's),Bassett and the best team we've played this year Reidsville,NC.We've beat WM. Fleming and WM. Campbell both on the road. The kids have also gone thru some hardships this year with multiple coaching changes(3 head coaches in a season is a bit much). So it will be interesting to see how things play out next week, I just hope for a safe and well played game like last years MV-Richlands game was!! That was a great High School football game wasn't it?? OH and to xdog, my tounge was firmly planted in cheek on that last post!!LOL
  13. VHSL, there was a little hard feelings about how he broke the record last night. Go to the Winchester paper and read about it. Seems that there was very hard feelings after this game not about him getting the record, but how it was acheieved last night.
  14. Carroll County all the way. The way I see it they will come to MV next week and win in a cake-walk, probably about somewhere around 45-50 to 6(MV will score one late against the jv kids) and then they will go to Bassett the next week(who by the way are horrible) and get revenge for their earlier loss and this one won't be close either, 35-6(got to work on that jv "D", they give up another late TD). The Piedmont is terribly weak this year,MV nor Bassett played hardly any tough teams so I see this regional as Carroll County's in a rout. What do you say BigD4VT?
  15. Also he is suspended for next weeks game with GW-Danville. The reason for his suspension is being kept very hush-hush but suffice it to say that it was warrented. His father was John, who helped him as a volunteer assitant with the MV program Joe's first 3 years at Magna Vista. He past away last year around about this time of the year. I believe he coached at Oceana HS in WVa.
