  1. Haha.....but look out for C-burg. They are loaded at skill positions. They lost some lineman but I think they can reload.
  2. The real question is.....how many other schools are doing the exact same thing? Surely we aren't expected to believe that all other swva schools are going "by the letter."
  3. Not a bad idea tigerfan. I personally think they should keep the region format with the new enrollment cut off. A different regional line for each division would not be a big deal. However, this is a true playoff format. It's just too much travel to get it done. Take the travel out and it's a dream tourney. Proper seeding with the highest seeds "earning" homefield. That's the way it should be. It's not worth a 3 hour trip on back to back weeks though. They should and may tweak this thing yet.
  4. Radford vs GW for the state title......it could happen. 30 minutes a part and can't play each other until the finals but Radford can travel to the "Atlantic Ocean" and play their 1st round game........sweeeeeeet! http://www.roanoke.com/sports/highschool/wb/245962 "Radford, Auburn and five other Timesland schools -- Parry McCluer, Eastern Montgomery, Bath County, Covington and Craig County -- will be placed in the North/Northeast Division of Division 1, which also includes 12 current Region A schools close to the Atlantic Ocean." "Radford will play one more season of Division 2 football, then head for the Division 1 ranks where a first-round playoff opponent could be Altavista, William Campbell or Franklin rather than Giles, Floyd County or Glenvar." "In previous discussions we set a ballpark figure for travel at 200 miles," Sturgill said." 200 miles equals 3 hours or more of travel time. This is easily equivalent to or worse than travel time of a region C vs. region D semis final game......but in the first round and potential every round for an underdog.
  5. Congrats to the kid for getting noticed. Now, are we seriously hyping up an eighth grader? I mean really? 8th grade? I have seen 8th graders run for over 300 yards in one game. Some are more mature than others at that age. Can't believe a news station is doing a piece on middle school football.
  6. Maxpreps usually updates each teams scores and records. Comes in handy if you want to know how teams in other regions or even districts are doing. Never seen a message board on that site. If there is, it's probably a national based one and not local.
  7. Remember, if the purposed changes take place, the current teams in region C will be in a "section" which may include Gate City, Powell valley, Lebanon and possibly Gretna and Dan River. Watered down would be correct if it stayed as is with the new numbers but that's not the proposal.
  8. Who is johnson and what position will hw play at Chil?
  9. I read on rivals that CC has a D1 prospect on the line. Not only can they beat Salem, what about C-burg?
  10. True for 2 reasons: They have a great program. They play in a district/region that is weak right now. The only D3 team that can compete with them in region IV is Cave Spring and I bet they lost alot off last years team. THe likes of Martinsville and Graham have been down for a few seasons paving the way for a stout Richlands team to roll on.
  11. I thought discussion on the boards was a good thing. 66-11 surprised me. There will be some time for people to take a harder look before finalizing.
  12. This would make schools like Radford D1. Possibly GW
  13. 475 is the number i am hearing as the cutoff. The probable D1 basketball champs, madison County has 604 students! However, look for travel to be a huge factor under this new system.....for some.
  14. The way the playoffs are done have just changed fellas. It appears that the system as we know it was just scrapped in single A. More of a WV type set-up while still ultilizing the 2 divisions. A new cut off state wide that will eliminate the huge discrepency on the state level.
  15. Madison's enrollment (604) would make them 1 of the biggest schools in regions C and D overall. They would actually be the 3rd largest in region C. Why they are in D1 is beyond me. Funny how schools can drop down a division if a school in the same region is double their enrollment. Yet, when you earn your way to the state tourney, you run into teams that are more than double your enrollment.
  16. I have never seen awards going to seemingly everyones starting five. Reminds me of participation awards given out in rec league...LOL
  17. Any thoughts? EM starts 5 juniors. 2 6'3" forwards and a 6' 7" center. They are by no means a powerhouse but are good. EM was the state runners up last year.
  18. Carroll dropped Floyd due to the points situation. THey had played for years being neighboring counties. Floyd beat Carroll at least half of the time so that really would hurt a D4 teams chances of making the playoffs. I understood the move by CC but it was sad to see that rilvary die. Another thought is if Carroll beat Floyd, it was usually when Floyd wasn't very good. Maybe .500 which doesn't reward the victor alot of points.
  19. THat is a crazy idea. That would end up like "Friday Night Lights" scenario. Dillon trying to steal the east Dillon players. Maybe a better example is an elementary school that has more than 1 team. They always seem to stack 1 of them. No way that works. Teams would be fighting each other. How would 2 sets of teams use the practice facilities? 2 jv girls basketball teams. 2 jv boys basketball teams etc. No way.
  20. Good article. Worth noting the obvious....that these schools could have dropped a long time ago. THey chose to "play up". Is that accurate?
  21. This would be nice and would definitely even the playing field but traveling again would be an issue. East Mont in the Pioneer would put them driving to Bath and Highland and that's 20 minutes more than Glenvar was driving. It makes since from a competitve stand point to swap East Mont and James River but it would be alot of traveling. Giles/Floyd to James River is a decent haul. Playing once in football is one thing but traveling for every single sport is another.
  22. Could be close but not sure why GW and Narrows would swap districts. It would be closer traveling for Narrows. I doubt Narrows wants in the TRD. Don't see that one happening.
  23. Eastern Montgomery is he lone D1 school in the Three Rivers District and nothing has been done about it. They have never won the district in football and have only beaten Floyd, Radford, and Giles once over many years. James RIver is the only D2 school in the Pioneer. THey haven't changed anything regarding these 2 schools to even things out so I wouldn't expect anything to happen anywhere else unless it's based on travel. In our economy, traveling and expenses will win out.
  24. I figure Graham to be at least an hour and 1/2 from Floyd. I don't see a regular season meeting between those 2. I think GW is more realistic than any TRD teams. Giles could drop Haysi and take on Graham. Graham should have no trouble with scheduling. They are picking up a completely new district. I am sure that 5 of the current 10 teams will keep them om the schedule.
  25. Futbolking.....I am glad to see you post this. I am a Floyd fan and I know how tough region C is every year. I think from the average fan perspective, a district or even a team that is AA just assumes victory over a single A school. Region C will be a good fit for Graham. Very competitive and one where Graham will have to be very good, like anyone else, to win the region.
