  1. Stewart should release him, regardless of recruiting ranking or not. Send a message, and treat every player/recruit equally. Will he do so? That'll be a sign of his coaching integrity.
  2. I figured that Droughns would be released; he really has the least value and upside among the 4 RBs that were on the roster. I think the Giants will stick with Jacobs, Ward, and Bradshaw.
  3. And I don't believe A-Rod, either. Not one bit. In that culture, you just don't "try" steroids a little bit...
  4. I don't agree with BigD terribly often it seems, but you're dead on the money with this one.

But what were you doing searching UVA football on Youtube, anyway. ;)
  6. Wars are indeed all too often the fallout of previous wars, and that should be even more a foreign policy consideration behind financing groups that have obviously less-than-impeccable causes. I just believe we should've let the Afghan sleeping dog lie, as it were. But come to think of it, this was the Carter Administration, as the Afghan-Soviet conflict was 1979. So Reagan's exonerated from this one.
  7. I stand corrected in that regard. But notice the trend of how Supreme Court nominees weren't nominated as much by policitial ideology until right around Clinton's term. Also notice how Clinton's two appointees, Ginsburg and Breyer, were passed by nearly unanimous margins (97-3 and 90-9). And also notice how the three closest confirmation votes among our Supreme Court justices were for the rock-ribbed conservatives: 52-48 for Thomas; 58-42 for Alito; 78-22 for Roberts. But it'll be all but factual once Ginsburg (pancreatic cancer), Stevens (849 years old), and Kennedy step down during Obama's term. It's almost an ironclad lock for the first two, and Kennedy's a 50/50 shot to step down.
  8. I will bold all the grammatical errors in this post: 1. The "w" in "where" is not supposed to be capitalized. 2. The "o" in "or" is supposed to be capitalized. 3. The "d" in "does" is not supposed to be capitalized. 4. You hilariously misspelled "even". 5. "Shed" in this context is preceded by the definite article "the". 6. The comma is supposed to precede the "but". 7. A comma or new sentence is needed after "low". 8. A comma is needed after "is". 9. Syntactically, "don't know" is a double negative in this context. 10. It's "D.C.", not "DC". 11. A question mark is required here. 12. "Newsflash" is nonsensical in the context of an educated discussion. Oops, I missed two complete errors, silly me! 13. It's "which", not "what state Richmond's in". 14. Respectable, highly educated folks such as yourself don't end sentences in prepositions. Try "in which state Richmond is". Highlanders, I'm curious: do you go to school? Did you even go to school? After reading your post, I can say beyond the shadow of a doubt that this Graham High School-educated law student is a far sharper tool in the proverbial shed than you could ever wish to be.
  9. You bring up good points and support them well in your article; I just have one issue of debate. You bring up Reagan arming the Afghans; I likewise have numerous problems with this. The rebels used the exact same training that we gave them to overthrow a ruling government in the region, give a very strong foothold to the Taliban, and give them at least some foundation to train for mass-murdering terrorist attacks. I see it as a colossal failure in foreign policy: the enemy of our enemy is certainly not always our friend, and the 1980s White House grossly failed to see this. I know I'm in a razor-slim minority in my opinion on Reagan. Especially among conservatives. ;)
  10. That's why baseball bans GNC-like substances that even show up positive on drug tests. But I disagree on just one small thing: steroids have been illegal the whole time. The MLBPA has so neutered the commissioners and governing bodies that they have a cloak of immunity when the players take illegal (not just disallowed) substances. They should be penalized strictly on the fact that there actions were felonies.
  11. Thanks for the update. At least he had the requisite anatomy to come out and say as much. *Insert scientifically-true fact about steroid use here.*
  12. Did you read my previous post at the top of Page 2? I specifically said that I had incredible difficulty in finding a picture early in Rodriguez's career that displayed his whole body (or close to it). And by early, I means the first half. Big whoop, his positive test was in 2003. This year was directly the stimulus leading to the new rule. That's precisely the issue: it doesn't matter if it was against MLB policy (which is choke-roped and made far behind the times by the MLBPA, anyway); it matters for the integrity and the sake of baseball. Plus, it was illegal the entire time.
  13. LOL. Nice one. ;) But still, when you're going into labor, just land the plane. Let's just say that there's no love lost for Pat Summitt for the diehard Virginia fans.
  14. I watched the game not a week ago on ESPN Classic when they forewent their normal programming from 24 hours to show all of Summitt's national title wins. I specifically tuned in to watch the 1991 National Title FRAUD, and I even recorded it for good measure. So that much is entirely first-hand. And it was bad; the 2nd-worst officiated game I've ever seen. But the rest of it, of course, I have to rely on my elder fans (or microfilmed newspaper clippings/editorials, when I can find them). Let's just say, I believe their reaction of the last 3:00 of the UT/UVA national title game matches up pretty darned well for what I saw on the court.
  15. A WVU win likely propels them into the tournament, looking at the rest of their schedule.
  16. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Reagan's actions might have hastened the Cold War's ending by a month, maybe. The USSR was collapsing under the weight of trying to entirely subsidize the largest agrarian economy on Earth while still fighting a losing battle to try to "one-up" the United States. The ruble was undergoing runaway inflation and it crippled the USSR. Once Gorbachev instituted glasnost and perestroika, the writing was on the wall. Not to mention the Communist bloc toppling like dominoes around the USSR. None of which were directly attributable to Reagan as much as to the fact that communism is an unbelievably poor form of operational government. Glasnost and perestroika might have arguably been a product of the Reagan/Gorbachev talks, but it wasn't the cannon of truth that broke the wall of the Cold War. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Reagan's getting the hostages back was more a product of spineless president (while in office) Jimmy Carter's exit from the White House more than anything else. Iran/the Ayatollah knew that they could play Carter like a fiddle, and they did. When Reagan came up and talked tough, they decided to let them go rather than risk it. Their point was proven: they held the hostages long enough, and made the U.S. look foolish. It sure didn't matter, really: we sold them arms not 5 years later and let Ollie North use the money to fun Latin American rebels. Did I mention how shockingly stupid this is?
  17. 1. I don't watch Fox News. Although Fox News is closer to center than CNN is. Try BBC. 2. CUT SPENDING, and take half the money from the process and rebuild infrastructure and build technology. 3. Not put pork in my stimulus package; not pack the cabinet with partisan cronies; not try to subsidize Planned Parenthood, not sell my soul to Acorn, not close Guantanamo Bay, not associate with racist ministers...
  18. The idea first surfaced in dicta in Hamdi v. Rumsfeld, even though Hamdi was an American citizen. The doctrine took its form in Hamdan v. Rumsfeld, as Hamdan was not an American citizen, and he successfully got habeas. It should be noted that Hamdi is merely a plurality decision (4 subscriptions to the main opinion), whereas Hamdan is barely a majority opinion (5 subscriptions to the main opinion). Goes to show you just how powerful the Supreme Court actually is. Decisions like these affect everyday life. And I guarantee you both of these will be decided when this opinion comes down from the Arizona district from which it is assigned.
  19. Fair enough, and your point's well taken. Part of it is that I have to show a picture from very early in his career to give an accurate time lapse over the course of his career. Part of it is that I had a high degree of difficulty of finding a picture of Rodriguez that showed his full body. Part of it is that the designer steroid he used has the main priority of burning fat. But regardless, let's say that he's 21 in that picture. Of course, he'd be able to bulk up somewhat. But to make it sound like his muscles aren't close to fully developed isn't entirely accurate, either.
  20. UVA up by 8, about 3:00 to go. Summitt gripes at the refs that UT wasn't getting equivocal treatment (but they were, I've seen tape of the game). UT starts getting insanely ticky-tack calls to get back in the game while UVA gets mugged without so much as a whistle (go to a Women's ACC Tournament just once, you think men's refs are bad...). UT ties it up, sends it to OT, and downs a worn-out UVA in OT. 2nd-worst officiated game I've ever seen. Both worst actually involve UVA Women's Basketball. But, since it's women's basketball, it gets a blind eye turned toward it. Plus the fact that Pat Summitt wouldn't land her airplane in VA to have her son when she went into labor based strictly on her dislike of UVA athletics. Pretty much like the old move where Woody Hayes got some of his guys to push his car 3 miles across the Ohio line to where he wouldn't have to pay a Michigan towing service to do it.
  21. LOL, I'm going to get flamed, but Reagan was a TERRIBLE president. The national debt increased from $7B to $280B dollars during his time in office. My math might be off here, but that's about a 4000% spike in the national debt, is it not? And to my count, we haven't recovered from that yet. His foreign policy might have even been more egregious. Has anyone ever heard of Iran-Contra? That was was a political scandal in the United States during the Reagan administration over an arms-for-hostages deal with Iran and funding for the Nicaraguan Contras group. Basically, we sold arms to Iran to get hostages. On top of this, Ollie North used some of the money to fund Nicaraugan rebels. MIND-BLOWINGLY STUPID. BTW, these same munitions are keeping Latin America in a gross state of upheaval today. This is pretty much one rung on the ladder down from the sheer, complete idiocy of that which is NAFTA.
  22. Sorry, guys: Yes, they can sue him under Arizona law. To prevent trespassing, one must use force proportional to the force being used by the trespassers. Stopping the illegals at gunpoint has time and again been ruled excessive force by state (and with regards to civil rights, federal) courts. This man likely faces tortious charges of assault and false imprisonment (if sued), or the criminal equivalent if a conviction is pending. It's a freaking shame, too. Should this be the case? Of course not. But your friends on the Supreme Court and the liberal presidents who placed them there have decided that it's a fabulous idea to grant habeas corpus to non-citizens and illegals. They certainly won't get the full $32M, but they'll make enough to ship it back to Mexico and make their relatives rich.
  23. The last paragraph of this article shows why Obama's stimulus plan is a giant crock of hooey: The Obama administration is caught in a paradox. It must borrow and spend to fix a crisis created by too much borrowing and spending. Having pumped the economy up with a stimulus, the president will have to cut the growth of entitlement spending by holding down health care and retirement costs and still invest in ways that will produce long-term growth. Obama talks of the need for smart government. To get the balance between America and France right, the new president will need all the smarts he can summon. Frankly, it's the exact antithesis of smart government to use a stimulus package to cure a problem brought on by too much borrowing and spending. Add in the fact that there's a mammoth amount of pork in this bill, and I become increasingly concerned about the liberal doctrine of spending.
  24. Thanks for the correction. Too easy to mess up schools in the same conference when one's SJU and one's SHU. ;)
