  1. [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] I agree losing a 14point lead is bad,UVA lost the game pure ans simple they had a good year. but you Tech Fans continue to show your true "lack of class" [/ QUOTE ] You want "class"? Go to school. You want to talk smack...how about this... You can't spell vulva without U-V-A... And in case you aren't sure what that is... www.britannica.com/eb/article-9075792/vulva You know, the thing that gets me with most UVA fans from this part of the state is that they don't fit the "UVA mold". UVA fans/alum from other parts of Virginia make fun of people from this part of the state and look down upon our "way of life". Their arrogance and snootiness is sickening. If most of you only knew, you'd think twice before even calling yourself a UVA fan... You can say you cheer for them because its your "state" school but the "real" UVA fans, and I do use that term loosely, don't want people like us, the people of southwest Virginia, being part of their "state"... [/ QUOTE ] The first part of this post was base, immature, and classless. The second part of it was misinformed at best and asinine at worst. You attempt to counteract one false stereotype while promulgating another; therefore, you are acting no better than the arrogant Virginia "fans" you are attacking. As there is in most every fan base, there are glaring differences. Of course, there are snooty, nose-in-the-air Cavalier fans as there are backwoodsy Virginia Tech fans. I will vouch for both. However, if you'd leave this insulated bubble and go to Orange, Louisa, or Nelson counties sometime, you'd find a whole lot of blue-collar Virginia fans, wearing jersies that look like they've been through the wash many dozen times. Likewise, if you go to Northern Virginia, you'd see very cocksure and impolite Hokie fans, some of which live quite affluently. To the second part of the second section, that is also incorrect on the whole. Sure, a large number of northern Virginians would love to cut the state off at Roanoke and along 460 in the south. However, especially with regards to myself, coming from this part of the world and as a "true" Virginia fan (which you think would be contradictory), I frankly like the lifestyle differences among different regions of the state. It's an amalgamation, a melting pot, if you will, of many different ways of life. I could care less about someone's geographical location: if you're genuine, regardless your personal beliefs, I'll likely enjoy your company. Location is irrelevant. (As an aside, G-Man, I truly want to know why you have such a pent-up hatred for Virginia. It baffles me, since I know of very few Virginia fans who have that level of hatred for Virginia Tech. PM me if you would like to discuss.) I expected something like this, honestly, upon my return from Jacksonville (which was FAR, FAR better than what I heard from Hokie and Cavalier sources alike; not the best [given that I sprained an ankle stepping onto a sidewalk where the ground was literally three inches above the asphalt], but not terrible). The "choke" word coming up. The players didn't choke: the team played valiantly all game, while the defense couldn't make one last 4th-down stop. The Groh assemblage, on the other hand, CHOKED. In this game, I saw perhaps the single-worst play call in my 22 years upon this Earth: on the 2nd-and-7, with near 3:30 to go in the game on the Virginia 11 and a 28-21 lead for Virginia, Mike/Al Groh asks true freshman Peter Lalich to throw a SCREEN PASS. Quite predictably, Texas Tech sent the house and caused Lalich to fumble on his own 4. Right then and there, I knew Virginia would lose this game. Instead of putting the game in the hands of Mikell Simpson (who had 170 yards on the game), you put the January bowl game and the chance for Virginia's second 10-win season EVER on the arm of an unproven true freshman. If this doesn't happen, the game likely goes into overtime, or Virginia makes one last stop to win the game. FREAKING BRILLIANT! If you'd have told me Mikell Simpson would have 20 carries for 170 yards, and the Virginia defense would have 2 safeties and hold Texas Tech to 31 points, I'd have sworn we would've won. I definitely congratulate Texas Tech: the Red Raiders did everything they had to do (and often out of desperation) to win the game. They were the better team on this day. The sun came up on the morning of the second, and the stomach-punch suffered on the previous day starts to heal... Lovable team, great season, many questions still to answer...
  2. [ QUOTE ] Brandon Ore has been suspended for one quarter in The Fedex orange Bowl for being 45 minutes late for practice [/ QUOTE ] That's Frank Beamer being the strict disciplinarian he is. Frankly, it won't affect the outcome one iota.
  3. [ QUOTE ] So.... he actually was able to smash that, Get her knocked up, and everything be Okie-dokie? [/ QUOTE ] Yep, pretty much. Theoretically, Aldridge could still likely be charged with a misdeameanor, and get up to one year in prison. However, in most cases of consensual acts leading to minors having children, mothers don't presses charges on behalf of the children. Else, I wouldn't expect the mother of such reputable children to press charges. Especially in lieu of her "good" daughter.
  4. It's not very hard to blame Mallett, really. He was recruited to play in a pro-style offense, the style to which he's best suited. Michigan fires the coach who recruited him, and brings in a coach who runs a dynamically different offense. It does nothing but hurts Mallett's future stock if he stays and performs poorly in a system that would most likely accent his weaknesses. I'm generally against students transferring from schools unless there is a highly valid reason, and I believe that this is indeed a viable reason to leave.
  5. Let's see here: One coach left his team midseason without warning, with his team at 1-5 and desperately looking for any kind of leadership. The team eventually finished last in the SEC West. One quits when the going gets tough. One coach has exactly one season of head coaching experience under his belt, during which he won the conference championship of by far the weakest I-A conference, went just 8-6 and couldn't even beat one of the other two directional Michigan schools, had 70 hung on them by the fourth-ranked team in the ACC, lost 44-14 to a I-AA school, and lost 4 of 6 games by 23 points or more. The other hasn't had his coaching training wheels taken off yet. Boy, both of them are clearly superior to the other candidates in the field.
  6. True that. It stunned me when I saw that he was actually 18, since the media came right out and proclaimed that he was 19. BIG difference, given Louisiana statutes. Must be how people add down in Luzana .
  7. [ QUOTE ] http://www.news.com.au/perthnow/story/0,21598,22953744-5005368,00.html?from=mostpop Spears' lover faces rape charges The boyfriend of 16-year-old Jamie Lynn Spears could face statutory rape charges carrying a maximum penalty of 10 years in jail. If 19-year-old Casey Aldridge really is the father and the baby was conceived in Spears' home state of Louisiana, the act could technically be considered "felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile" - defined as "sexual intercourse with consent between someone age 19 or older and someone between age 12 and 17". Fox News reports that in Louisiana a person can only legally consent to sex at age 17. If aged 15 or 16, the other person involved must be no more than two years older for the act to be considered legal. Yet Aldridge wouldn’t fare much better if the act happened in California, where Spears lives while on the set of her TV show Zoey 101. "It states clearly in the Californian Penal Code that any person who engages in an act of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor (under 18) who is not more than three years older or three years younger than the perpetrator, is guilty of a misdemeanour and faces up to one year in a county jail," criminal defence attorney Jim Hammer said. “But if Aldridge is actually more than three years older he could be up for a felony, which carries a maximum three years in prison.†But lawyer Christopher Darden says charges are unlikely. “The father of the child may have committed a criminal offence or misdemeanour by having unlawful sex with a minor,†he said. “But unless the complaint is filed from the minor’s parent, it is unlikely that this will be taken further.†[/ QUOTE ] Thanks for that link. I told you that southern states generally have tougher stances than their northern counterparts! As far as this goes, one needs to look at the birthdates to determine whether the act in question was a felony or misdeameanor. Currently, Aldridge is 18 (according to my research, at least) and Spears is 16, but the real crux of dispute here, is whether Aldridge turns 19 before Spears turns 17. Put differently, was Aldridge 18 while Spears was 15, which would satisfy the three year difference and the under-16-proviso required for the felony? Spears is 13 weeks along, if you believe her own statements and those in the media. That would put the "act" around September 20th, as a rough guess. Here are the birthdates: Jamie Lynn Spears: April 4th, 1991 Casey Aldridge: April 29th, 1989 As a result, it appears that Aldridge would be liable only for the misdeameanor (or more than one, given the number of times the deed was done), should the parents (acting in lieu of Spears) choose to pursue it.
  8. [ QUOTE ] Only 9 out of 37 participants in the Bowl Pick'em picked Utah to win... [/ QUOTE ] Utah was wildly inconsistent to start the season: laid that 44-6 thumping on UCLA, and then gave UNLV their only conference win of the season the following week in a 27-0 shutout. They had won 7 of their last 8 before the bowl game (granted, against generally bad teams), with that only loss coming to a ranked Brigham Young team. I voted for Navy myself, but in retrospect, I should've seen this one coming.
  9. [ QUOTE ] What a dumb a$$! I thought her sister was a train wreck, but i think the little engine that could just overtook sister's train for the lead in the "Are You Kidding Me?" award for 2007. What a great role model for little girls and boys. I expect to teen pregnancy rate to go back up now. That family has to be embarrassed beyond belief as is Nickelodeon. They are going to lose tons of money on its' number one rated show. [/ QUOTE ] You never saw this crap out of SpongeBob Squarepants! Seriously, if Nickelodeon would stick to its to cartoons and cut back on those goofy teenage dramas/comedies, that would've helped them immensely. But again, Nickelodeon only hired her in the first place because she was Britney's sister; else, the talent must grow really thick in backwoods Louisiana! Let this be a lesson to networks in general: apples on the same tree don't often fall far from one another. There are exceptions, but this appears to be the norm, sadly. Case and point: the Vick brothers. Just sad to see people have the world at their fingertips and crush it.

A couple of quarterbacks that went to Virginia Tech can attest to this.
  11. [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] you can do something in five minutes that you'll have the rest of your lifetime to regret. [/ QUOTE ] It's a lot more fun if you can do it for longer than five minutes (although perhaps no less regrettable). [/ QUOTE ] HAHA! Not what I was trying to say, but definitely no less true.
  12. Read my two posts, especially the one to which you responded.
  13. [ QUOTE ] As a law student would know, most states do believe sexual relations at the age of 16 and with an adult is within the law if it is consented relations. The states that you named will have their own take on them, and have their laws dealing with it. I was unaware that Aldridge was 19 years old, so that adds a whole new twist to the story. [/ QUOTE ] Oh yes, I certainly know that there are vast differences between jurisdictions on very many things, of which sexual consent by minors is one. No two states have the same criteria, and let me tell you, on an exam, it's maddening writing out several different approaches! But I digress. You may have to excuse me if I err in the following paragraphs, for I've studied far more torts than criminal law up to this point, and may very well be incorrect on a few matters. In general, southern states tend to be more stringent on sexual relations with minors, while northern states appear to be a bit more laxed. Culture difference, methinks. Just look at Georgia: 18-year-old Genarlow Wilson got served seven of ten YEARS for consensual oral sex with a 16-year-old. Not even intercourse! That statute got a much-needed overhaul, in the end, but there are incredibly rigid statutes like that in the books. On a cursory glance, more states do tend toward the "16-year-old with consent" doctrine, but it's by no means a sweeping majority. I reiterate, I'm speaking off the cuff, with just what I could draw off Westlaw and analyze in a short amount of time. Unless the legislatures have changed/revised the laws in the past four years, here's how the law in our two great states stands now: In West Virginia, J.L. Spears's actions would be perfectly legal, for a 16-year-old girl is allowed to have consensual sex with a boy either no more than four years her elder (this provision ends once the girl turns 18), or with her husband, given that she is legally married at the earliest possible age (16) in West Virginia. Casey Aldridge would be as free as can be. In Virginia, Aldridge would be guilty of a felony count (or counts, since I highly doubt this incident was isolated) of carnal relations with a minor. Likewise, there is no marriage proviso for those underage, since the legal age for marriage in the state of Virginia is 18. In the end, I'm probably spouting legal logistics for something that won't happen. I just hope she can get her life patched up, and be able to provide for a new life that will enter this world.
  14. [ QUOTE ] Wow... This is what the kids of today are being taught. They watch Nickelodeon and see one of the most famous faces have a baby at the age of 16. Man, have times changed. Kids are learning stuff at a much faster rate than earlier generations. [/ QUOTE ] Truer words have been seldom spoken. It boggles even my mind the depravity I see: internet, television, even in the clothing children wear today. Just like the Tim Wilson song: "It's a Sorry World" sometimes. I feel sorry for Jamie Lynn Spears. Life has basically hit her upside the head with a brick. Just as I've heard most of my life: you can do something in five minutes that you'll have the rest of your lifetime to regret, and I believe that's what may come from this. As an aside, her boyfriend is 19 years old, while she's 16. I'm not aware of the exact Florida/Louisiana/California law (the three states J.L. Spears frequents), but if the underage sexual relations statutes mirror Virginia's, this is a crime: likely even a felony. Nothing will probably happen to Casey Aldridge, but this is something that interests me in the whole situation.
  15. [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] after watching an interview of one of the players after he announced he was leaving, my feelings changed about rod. IF he was interested in the money only, then the would have left last year, hands down. however, the player they interviewed had nothing but good things to say about coach. he said the only time problems came up was when RR was trying to get somethign better for the players whether it be facilities, weights, training stuff, jerseys, whatever! but he was ALWASY fighting for better stuff for the players and coaching staff and that's a fact. IMO, i think RR is making a point to WVU's athletic director that this is what happens when you promise him all this new stuff, and you don't follow through. so RR isn't the traitor here..it's the athletic director. RR was just forced into this situation and he's making a statement. i hope he does well, and i hope WVU get's off the traitor wagon soon because i don't want to be around a bunch of drunk haters the whole time im up there next year... [/ QUOTE ] the same thing was said in his conference. If he was wanting more money, he would have went to Alabama last year. This all came up from problems with the AD. Rod went to him about getting his assistants better pay and about how there were promised funds coming to the program that werent showing up. Rod got upset, got info on the Michigan job and took it. Do I blame him? no. [/ QUOTE ] Unfortunately you guys don't know the whole situation. You are right that it may not be about just the money. It basically has to do with the money and Coach Rods ego. Even if you dont agree with the AD it doesnt mean you turn your back on your players, school, and state. Rod should be grateful of how folks opened up their wallets to him last year. Oh Yea...one of Rods "excuses" was that they would not give his wife Rita a field pass. BULLSPIT! As you can tell he was really looking for anything to get out. [/ QUOTE ] First: Prestige at Michigan > Prestige at West Virginia Money at Michigan > Money at West Virginia Talent Pool of Big Ten > Talent Pool of Big East Second: Say that you had a successful private-practicing lawyer in Bluefield, who just so happens to have you as a client. He was successful in his job, making right at $100,000 per year: quite a bit of money. However, a prestigious firm in Richmond offers him $175,000 per year to be a junior partner. In the real world, you'd be more than happy for him, and wish him the best as he pursues his dreams nearly 350 miles away. Although he is doing a disservice to his clientele by moving away, people would generally not be mad: they would find a new lawyer to whom they confide in. Most of you would agree with me on this, right? He's doing what's best for himself his family, albeit not exactly for his clients. However, when Rodriguez moves to a position with higher prestige, a larger recruiting base, with a fair bit more money, but doing a disservice to HIS clients, West Virginia fans want to lynch him. The man's doing what's best for his career: looking out for #1 and his own, just like my lawyer in the previous example. Wish him the best, place your support in the hands of the new coach, and stop being jealous because a slightly better school offered him a great job. That's life, baby.
  16. Rodriguez is not coaching the bowl game: look on ESPN on the numerous stories on which this has been confirmed. He's not going to have a Billy Donovan-esque "change-of-heart" and fly right back to Morgantown: look at those same articles, and how he believes that he fits right into the Michigan scheme. He's gone. G-O-N-E. Gone. Not coming back.
  17. [ QUOTE ] your cousin = Big Dumb Idiot [/ QUOTE ] As the 10,000th post in this forum, I must say that I agree.
  18. [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] I think he has signed to coach the Lions in 2011. [/ QUOTE ] "Lions and tigers and bears! Oh, my!" [/ QUOTE ] So, in other words: Penn State: 2011 Clemson: 2012 California: 2013 Gotcha!
  19. [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Yet, they cannot get in a BCS bowl game... looks like WVU does not have much overhead... Them mounties are pretty smart huh? [/ QUOTE ] Alabama cannot garner a BSC game because of LSU and Auburn. My comment wasn't a shot at the mounties, but a comment on how 'Bama is paying throught the nose for years of arrogance. The thread had turned into "Saban to WVU" talk and that's what I commented on. [/ QUOTE ] Or maybe it's Alabama's 6-6 (4-4) mark keeping them from a BCS game. Maybe it's the fact that Alabama lost all that pent-up prestige from the 70s. Trust me, there's more than just LSU and Auburn keeping the Tide back. Saban will probably succeed. That is, if the deluded folks in Tuscaloosa give him the chance...
  20. I believe Rodriguez will eventually succeed at Michigan, but he really needs a couple of years to get the best performance from his offensive system. The current Michigan offense isn't really set up to run a spread package: namely a lack of speed. The defense will carry Michigan during Rodriguez's first two years there. Look for the big improvement in year three. In my opinion.
  21. The ones I've downloaded in the past have been safe, virus-free ones; since many different emulators are linked through gaming forums, you'd see a big blowup if any were viruses-in-disguise. My favorites are "Nester" for the NES, and "GENS" for Sega Genesis. Here's a webpage full of emulators to choose from (and links to other emulators: http://www.emulator-zone.com/doc.php/nes/ Likewise, you can use the link to Vimm's Lair above to get a ton of games.
  22. [ QUOTE ] He went home, big difference....Beilein bolted and we really did not have big problem...he was not from wv....huggins is wvu alum. [/ QUOTE ] That says a lot, then! Just kidding. Bob Huggins has the moral standing of Terry Bowden. In fact, wasn't it Huggins that didn't graduate a player for years and years during his time at Cincinnati? Wasn't there recruiting violations in there as well? Slap some blue and yellow on him, and he becomes a saint. Funny how that happens... Speaking of the high-class characters of Huggins and Bowden, they soon might be counterparts together in harmony and bliss!
  23. [ QUOTE ] Just checked fligtAware.com and a flight from Blacksburg departed at 12:07pm to arrive in Morgantown at 12:53pm.Just a thought. [/ QUOTE ] Might just be a coincidence, but it's definitely a possibility that it could be it. If it's more than a coincidence, you get an A+ for solid investigation! Of course, I hope he signs with the Mountaineers as soon as possible! He deserves it after his lengthy stint with Beamer. Many other Virginians would be happy for him, too.
