I echo the same sentiments, that this should be his second Mackey award. This year was a "down" season for him, especially after last season, and especially after UVA chooses to run the ball seventy-eight percent of the time. His hard work has certainly paid off to this point, and I hope whatever lies ahead of him is blessed! Way to go, Heath!

Miller may have been more deserving last year than this year, due to UVA's sudden urge to run the ball three out of every four plays. I am thrilled to see the Swords Creek man pull this award in, and I wish him all the best in the future!

I have no doubt Simon will have Bluefield prepared for the upcoming season; another thumping in the Graham/Beaver game will show us that. THAT is the reason they will be a 13th seed in the playoffs. Only so many state championships can be won with a small offensive line. Very few can be won with a great group of seniors leaving which Bluefield is facing. The speed will be there, and I believe the intensity will be there. I just believe Bluefield will be physically overwhelmed, ergo my reasoning.

Of course, I was joking when I said the color was what really mattered. An original idea would be fantastic, though I just ask not to shut out every idea Bluefield, Virginia might have in suggesting field ideas, if the field was to change.

I plan to drive to Harrisonburg to watch the Powell Valley-Manassas Park game. This game will be a slugfest, and I see Manassas Park just a little overwhelming, 34-27. J.I. Burton will win, 31-18. Bring two back for the homeland!

I place Bluefield with a 6-4 record next year, squeaking in as a 13th seed. Bluefield has a lot of sway with the West Virginia polls, due to the strength of schedule they play (Martinsburg is the best example of this), the great history of the program (now eight state titles), and the well-renowned coach Fred Simon. I think Bluefield will be there, but because of a lack of speed, strength, and overall age, it will not be the factor it has been in the past four years.

NO! I would much rather not play on blue turf... Oh, the post was on Mitchell Stadium...I think maroon would be a nice touch, because both Bluefield and Graham's uniforms would stick out nicely. It would also provide a little bit of an intimidation factor: I mean, anything helps. I can give my vantage point: I remember the days in the band where I could get no traction on the ground at halftime, and I could just imagine how the players felt. Turf would be a nice feature, the color is what really matters.

True, Bluefield demolished Wayne by pasting the team with 69 points. You all should be extremely happy about that. HOWEVER, please try to be gracious winners. It is not the easiest thing to do on the loser's side, but on the winner's side, it should be avoided at all cost. Let the James Monroe posters say what they feel like. Let the scores do the talking...

I agree. The snap would have been botched in that kind of condition, and cleats give as much (if not more) traction on a muddy field than turf shoes give on a snowy turf field.

Well, in 1989, Graham made it to the Southwest District Championship, only to be shut out by some fellow named Billy Wagner. In 1991, the score against Tazewell was 2-0 in the district final. Graham has not been there since 1991 because of the ineptitude of one Morgan Campbell. It took the man 12 years to get a winning record. He should have been shipped out in 1995. The choking for Graham comes well before the playoffs, with the exception of the Carroll County mishap this last year. Don't count them out with Alvis...

I have to wish Salem the best of luck. No direspect to Sarver, but several relatives of mine live in Salem; I also have a cousin entering Salem High School next year. Therefore, my heart's with Salem on this one.

This game sounds like it was a dog-fight. I give Richlands all the congratulations in the world. This team is second-best in AA-Division 4 in my mind, no doubt about it. Richlands, hold your head high, because this season was incredible. Thanks!

My reference to the playoffs earlier was about the state championship. Four hours of sleep over the course of a semester wears you down. Nevertheless, Stone has the record and the Beavers another championship. Again, congratulations.

Congratulations Powell Valley on a dominating win today. I wish you all the best of luck in the state championship. That score surprised me too; I predicted a win, but not of this proportion. Take it to the limit next week!

I sat in Mitchell Stadium one night three years back and watched Eric Degray kick a 44-yard field goal with relative ease. It does seem short to me, that in the entire history of West Virginia playoffs, the longest field-goal is just 41 yards. That is impressive for a high school kicker, I just figure a 45 to 50 yarder would have been kicked SOMETIME.

This win is an emphatic cap to another 14-0 season. I had faith in the Beavers, and they apparently had faith in themselves, annihilating Wayne. Congratulations to the Bluefield Beavers, the 2004 West Virginia AA State champs! Note: A 41-yard field goal is the state record? That seems short.

Vic Hall is not ranked fourth in the nation. He's not even on the Top-25 listing of quaterbacks in the nation (this honor goes to Harrison Beck out of Clearwater, Florida; this is courtesy of ESPN). Tazewell may very well have more heart than Gretna, but Hall's sheer talent will blow Tazewell away. Again, I predict a thrashing (57-3), and I reiterate, I would love to be surprised.

The linebacker who was also expelled was Ottawa Anderson, not the Butkus Award-finalist Ahmad Brooks. Even as a second year, he was suspended the first time around. The honor code at UVA is not a joke; I have seen the system in process, and it is anything but lenient. GHS89's comment, though intended to be sarcastic, is not far from the truth. UVA has a low tolerance for misbehavior, and Groh (being a strict disciplinarian) decided to pull the plug on Bradshaw. Lance pretty much his the nail on the head. This year is Alvin Pearman's year, next year is Wali Lundy's year. Bradshaw would have probably been redshirted as a freshman, and in that instance, he may have seen a few carries his freshman year with his sophomore year being his breakout season. However, Groh selected him for his defensive back skills than his running skills. He was the shortest of Groh's incoming class of defensive backs at 5'10''. Groh also drafted six (which could solve Virginia's secondary problem in a couple of years). This doomed Bradshaw from the start. I hope his mistake here turns into success for him at Marshall.
