Great game between Central and Lebanon. Centrals win 1-0 in 8. Thought after the double to get things started Lebanon would create force out opportunities by intentionally walking Carter and then Dingus when a base was open.
The M7 district was competitive but down a notch or two as a whole this year in my opinion. This Abingdon team is not like Abingdon teams of the past, and still no one could beat them.
They were the higher seed from the regular season. Since none of the bottom 3 seeds advanced beyond the opening round of the distriict tourney, the highest finisher in the regular season moves on.
If referring to softball Union beat GC, and I believe Central beat Ridgeview. Ridgeview and GC are done for the year and Lee will be the 4 seed traveling to Richlands to open the region tourney. Before the year started I thought there was a great chance these two played each other in the region tourney. Just thought it wouldnt be the opening round.
Union has some freshmen hurlers that will be good in the years to come, but the team desperately needs to spend some serious time in the hitting cage, and improve defensively, There just has to be a deeper commitment to this sport in this football town, or we'll stay middle of the road:(
And an 8th grader who has the potential to be the best one if I remember right also.
Oh dang, I hadnt heard about them missing the plate on a HR last night. Was impressed they went extras with TN High though even with Compton not starting.
I hated to learn of Dougs passing yesterday. Its hard to believe the impact this man had on the game of football and didnt allow his disabilities to keep him from the game.
The officials for the Auburn/Lancaster game was an AOA crew.
I was thinking he told me one other AOA guy for sure. Couldnt remember if it was an entire crew or not as they sometimes mix them in state games. This person also worked the GW/Auburn game at Tech so he had some solid games to end the season.
Do any of our local officials ever get to work the state championship games? I haven't recognized a single official yet. I know we all like to complain about them but I would be that ours down in this part of the state are just as good as the ones out east.
Yes I know of at least one official who worked the Auburn/Lancaster game.
Wise running away from JM and I would expect Eastside to win by more than Central will in the 1A game. What I saw of Brunswick on film Im not sure they would have made it out of the Cumberland to the region tourney in our neck of the woods.
TN High was going to be loaded this year at the plate. They were just missing a pitcher. Well they done extremely well in finding one and should make a deep playoff run. Especially with the VT commit Fisher tearing her ACL at Volunteer back in the late fall.
Parents bought a house in Bristol last spring was what many said then. Mother now teaches at TriCities Christian where Compton then enrolled this past fall. They didnt have a softball team and is now at TN High after a hardship waiver was approved by the TSSAA.
TN High will be loaded this year. The Wilhoit kid that led their basketball team as a freshmen is a phenomenal athlete and softball doesn’t fall far behind her basketball abilities. I thought they would probably win quite a few games before adding Compton but it would look more like football scores due to their offense and lack of pitching in a very small park. Their lineup top to bottom will be very strong. With Fisher (VT commit) at Volunteer out for the year with a with knee injury the Vikings should make a deep run at the state tourney.
I would think Tanner Hall is probably the youngest coach prior to the hiring of Sturgill at Chilhowie and they are probably close in age. Keith Warner may be the youngest before that in the immediate area.
