  1. If Tech had Tavon they might have actually been able to beat Clemson last year considering he scored more TD's against them in one game than Tech's whole team did in two. Just an observation
  2. First off, I do have a personal health care policy which wasn't hard to get and is affordable on a middle class income. Secondly I do agree that our health care system certainly needs to be fixed and I do feel for people who are unable to get health insurance because of pre-existing conditions. However, there are some things I think people who support Obamacare should think about. First, the founding fathers didn't intend for the government to be some parent organization to care for all the needs and wants of its citizens. The Preamble to the Constitution says that the primary responsibility of the government is to ensure domestic tranquility (which means keeping peace at home through law enforcement), to provide for the common defense (which means having a military to protect us from outside threatening forces), and promote the general welfare (which means creating an enviroment where people have the opportunity to work hard and better themselves). The idea that citizens have the right to things like health insurance and unemployment benefits that last almost two years is not found in the writings of the founders of this country and it is very dangerous. There is such a sense of entitlement in this country today. If you look on your cell phone bill you will find a line that says "other charges or other fees". That is where you and I are helping pay a cell phone bill for someone else that can't afford it themelves. They can't afford a cell phone but they think they have a right to own won and so you and I have to pay for it. The government should not be responsible to provide all these things to citizens. Part of Obamacare helps pay for contraception and concervatives are slammed as women haters for not supporting that. Idk about you but I don't think the government has any business in our bedrooms and if you can't afford contraception of some kind, there is always abstinence. I've rambled on long enough but let me finish by pointing out two dangers to all of this government provision and citizen entitlement stuff. First if you keep taxing the upper and middle class to death in order to give hand outs to the lower class two things will happen: First the lower class will never seek to better themselves because they are getting a free hand out and second those who were working hard will stop because their hard work is rewarded by the government taking a large chunk of their money and giving it away. The other thing to keep in mind is "A government that is big enough to give you everything you want is a government big enough to take everything you have." The more you rely on the government for your livelihood the more power they hold over you.
  3. Here are my end of the year top 5 Rankings and BCS Bowl projections. Rose Bowl: Oregon vs Wisconsin Fiesta Bowl: Oklahoma vs Georgia Orange Bowl: WVU vs FSU Sugar Bowl: LSU vs Michigan National Championship: Bama vs USC Top 5 1. Alabama 2. LSU 3. Oregon 4. Oklahoma 5. USC I think my Eers get to and win a BCS game but just miss the top 5 but finish with a solid top 10 ranking for the year.
  4. Speaking as an unbiassed spectator, I have watched Floyd play 4 or 5 regular season games as well as the GW playoff game and the Lebanon game. In my opinion Luke is certainly the most valuable player on Floyd's team and they will not win Saturday if he is healthy. However, Floyd has many other good athletes and they should have been able to handle Lebanon without Luke. Lebanon didn't have a first down the entire first half. Floyd could basically pass at will but for some reason they went away from that in the second half until their final drive. The backup could have hit those recievers. It is my opinion that Floyd was lucky to beat GW and very lucky that Lebanon fumbled Saturday. If Floyd plays like they did against Chillowhowee then the game will be close, if they don't they will get spanked. Either way they will lose. They are stumbling into this game. They haven't showed any consistency of late and maybe not all season.
  5. Congrats to JM. You guys have exceeded everyone's expectations!!! Have a great Thanksgiving, get rested up and go get Magnolia!!!
  6. Good luck to my Mavs on Friday. Great job last FRiday. Not disrespecting Weir but I remember about 5 years ago their was a guy from Weir on the board and he said that Weir didn't rebuild but reloaded. If i'm not mistaken hasn't it been like 4 or 5 years since Weir even made the playoffs? Weir has a good team this year and Friday night will be tough for both teams. Just wanted to point out the fact that you haven't heard much from Weir fans the past few years and all of a sudden they make the playoffs again and they start crowing again. One thing you have to say about teams like JM and Bluefield, we are playing in mid to late November every year.
  7. I have watched about half of Floyd's games this year and they are capable of beating just about anybody. They didn't play well against GW last night but this was their second game against GW so you expect rematches to be tight. I don't know much about Chillhowie but if Floyd plays the kinda ball they are capable of then it won't be much of a contest. I look for Floyd to wake up this week after a close call last night and win by 14 or more.
  8. To be perfectly honest I am not excited about McCain or Obama. We have gotten to the point in our country where we are basically voting for the less of two evils. On that note I would encourage anyone who has any respect for God or the Bible to take a look at this video. I understand that there are many important issues to be discussed during the election process. But if we don't have the favor of God in our country then I don't care how good our economy is or how strong our military is. Every great power falls from within. Just study the history of the Roman Empire. We say God bless America and then we live like the Devil. Take a look at this video and in spite of what you may already think of the candidates this should make you think long and hard about voting for this man. http://www.youtube.com/swf/l.swf?video_id=4FCNKwHRCQM&rel=1&eurl=http%
  9. is that avatar a self portrate sandman because you must have been drinking when you made that statement. go ahead though, let all the bluefield people think you are going to kill us. that's fine by me. whether we win or lose we will give you a game.
  10. i understand what you are saying but we squandered several opportunities to score that night as well. truthfully i'm sure both teams probably want to play better than in their first meeting. hopefully JM will play like a well oiled machine and hopefully Bluefield won't. Just to let everyone know i'm not one of these guys who wants to see a good close game and the best team winning. I want to see JM win period! We have lost several games when we were the better team and so if Bluefield would be off and that helps us win then that's fine by me. Not saying that will happen but if it does you won't see me shedding any tears.
  11. Big congrats to the Mavs on finally getting to Wheeling. This should be a good match up. I personally feel like JM let one get away at bluefield earlier this year and now we have an opportunity to make up for it. I honestly feel a little better about this week than the Wayne game. We hadn't played Wayne so i wasn't really sure that we could beat Wayne if they came to play. I know we can beat Bluefield, we just have to give it everything we have for one more game. Not trying to throw fuel on the fire, i said we can beat bluefield not that we will. That will be left up to the guys on the field. Unfortunately I can't make the trip but just a word of encouragement guys. Practice hard this week, enjoy the trip to Wheeling and play hard Friday night!!! Once again congrats on accomplishing what no other Mavs team has before you!!
  12. [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] I am sure James Monroe is real scared of the owen schmitt ( not really) power back...come on makes him look like a sissy have you seen owen's lifts...i am sure he is a good tough nosed high school back [/ QUOTE ] Look how caught up you in youre "James Monroe is unbeatable " self... You heard if here first, Magnolias FB is a better rusher than anbody on James Monroe's team [/ QUOTE ] According to the program I have, "which isn't in front of me at the moment so I ay have looked at the wrong back" the biggest back on Magnolia's team is 5-8 205. That is 5 pounds lighter and 6 inches shorter that Tolsia's back we faced Friday not to mention JM has already faced a good back when we played Scott. I'm sure this guy is talented but one guy doesn't win a football game. The other thing no one is talking about is how will Magnolia's defense handle seeing the Single Wing for the first time. I don't care who you are, when you line about across the ball from an offensive scheme you have never faced before it will take you time to adjust. Hopefully it will take several possessions for Magnolia to adapt and we can jump out to an early lead. Bottom line: I am convinced we have that athletes to win We just need to come out strong in the first quarter, not turn the ball over and not give up big plays on defense.
  13. congrats to the Mavs on a strong finish after a shakey start. I want to compliment Whitt on adjusting the offense after the first two drives. We were having trouble running around the ends because Tolsia had some speed so we started running north and south between the tackles. I think this will serve us well against Magnolia as well. we match up well against them on the line so run it down their throat if you can and if you can't then try to get the corner or throw some. I agree with Mavsrock on two things. We need to make a statement early in the game and not get in a whole and I also agree that I am only concerned with Magnolia right now. I don't care about Wayne or Bluefield. This week is about Magnolia and if we play well we should win.
  14. probably true but first we must crawl before we can walk lol. rather whitt must crawl i guess.
  15. definetly going to be a tough game. good chance to see if whitt will be smarter on offense. if you missed that discussion check out page 4 of the bluefield james monroe thread.
  16. i'm not sure. i do know that they have thrown some conventional formations into the playbook but haven't really used them. i also know that Giles can pass out of there single wing. i think it's just Whitt thinking he knows it all and not being willing to change. Willie thax for your agreement and I wish more people would speak up as well. Maybe if enough people will make enough noise it might make a difference.
  17. [ QUOTE ] I think if JM is to have any success in late rnds in the playoffs they need to get a serious passing game..one dimension isnt going to cut it! these 2 will likely meet again. great game by 2 good teams! [/ QUOTE ] First let me say congrats to Bluefield on being the better of the two teams last friday. Secondly, Tom you took the words right out of my mouth. If someone who lives in TN can see that, does coach whitt not think other teams notice this. It's not necessarily that we can't throw but we never try. We get ahead by 4 TD's in games and yet we ever take the time to work on our passing game in game conditions!!!! What in the world. Let me put this in perspective for Mav's fans. Grant it this is my opinion but I believe it is valid. We lose too many tough games by a close score when we have several opportunities to capitalize and win. A few years ago we lost by a TD to Bluefield in a playoff game. We were driving late and all of a sudden whitt decides to pass and it get's intercepted. Last year we had opportunity after opportunity to beat Tolsia and we lose by a point. A late Int. hurt us in that game. Then this past Friday Whitt tries to run around the end when we have the ball at the 6. We lose yards and come away with no points. If you have 4 downs to gain six yards run straight at them!! Bluefield has too much speed to run outside!! I'm sorry but I am sick and tired of losing close games that could go either way. I take nothing away from Bluefield or the other teams that have beaten us late in the playoffs but you would think that we could at least pull one of those games out every now and then. But the reality is, "in my opinion" unless Coach Whitt changes some things on offense we might as well get ready to lose in the second or third round of the playoffs again this year. Bascially one of three things is going to happen at JM. Either Whitt can get some more balance in the offense, or we can get a new coach who will, or we can keep Whitt with his one dimensional offense and get used to the idea of probably never going to state. You may think this sounds harsh or that i am crazy but I saw us lose to Dupont, Wyoming East, and Bluefield under Jackson who made bonehead offensive calls during those games and now I've watched Whitt do the same thing against Bluefield and Tolsia in the playoffs and last friday was no exception. I do not claim to know it all but I am telling you that if we want to go from being a good football program to a great football program something needs to change and I would tell that to Whitt's face if it would help.
  18. [ QUOTE ] Yeah JM may have won 2 out of 3 but Blfd has won the big one that matters. I hate to predict but i will, i predict, JM will be suprised and awwstruck at Blfd's team speed and D and waits outside the Blfd locker room after the game for autographs! [/ QUOTE ] what an arrogant #@!$$#@%$. one of the many reasons that i love "sarcasm" bluefield as much as i do.
  19. [ QUOTE ] Anyone remember the Bluefield-James Monroe game at Lindside a few years back when Bluefield had five TDs called back...still won the game something like 20-6 but all five TDs were called back on "phantom" penalties. [/ QUOTE ] hey, does anyone remember the time that James Monroe hired Tom Brady and the New England Patriots to play for them against bluefield and the refs were really seniors from the Weir team that lost to Bluefield in overtime a few years ago lol. oh my word, it is only Sunday and it sounds like a bunch of three year olds. the past is the past. in the present JM and bluefield are to great teams who haven't lost. Friday night will be a good game and both teams should go far in the playoffs. until friday let's try and respect the opposing program. you don't have to like them because heaven knows i despise bluefield but i have to give credit where credit is due and bluefield has a good program just as we do.
  20. i didn't get to go to the game but i agree that we can't overlook MV. first of all we are playing in the pit, so that in and of itself is problematic. secondly MV does have speed and athleticism. third they are coming off of a big loss to bluefield. i am concerned but i think this may be the easiest of our last three games. we are a better team than MV but the best team doesn't always win. we just have to play well and we will be ok. Go Mavs!!
  21. [ QUOTE ] MV is not going to beat bluefield. they may hang with them for awhile but MV isn't as strong as they normally are and the game is in bluefield. i predict bluefield by 21 or more. [/ QUOTE ] knightsfan3, i hate to say it but i told ya so. this has no reflection on my feelings about our game with MV next week. it is a totally different scenario. i think JM wins but in a much closer game. my point is only that MV is down this year and they proved that last night.
  22. i am certainly not a beaver fan but i am a realist and realistically speaking, MV is not going to beat bluefield. they may hang with them for awhile but MV isn't as strong as they normally are and the game is in bluefield. i predict bluefield by 21 or more.

    bluefield #1

i have a hard time believing that you guys can't pick up a 10th game. i know bluefield is good, but i have a hard time believing that only 7 in state and 2 out of state teams are not afraid to play you. and gomavs is right, our schedule isn't that much different than bluefields.
  24. it's kinda hard to find 10 schools who are fairly local schools and are talented. plus rome wasn't built in a day. we have consistently been improving our schedule. over the past few years we have dropped teams like Richwood, Summers, Pocahontas, as well as a couple Single A teams. i guess that people have to find something to criticize us about. thoughjavascript:void(0)
