  1. Too many mushrooms in the Seventies for ole SWVAFB and I not talking about the ones on his pizza.
  2. From what I understand, he "officially" retired when he left Gate City and went to TN . Coaches like Colobro coach until they fall over. A younger coach to build stability? How about a younger coach that is capable coming in after Colobro establishes stability. Colobro will get more kids out, a little coaching goes a long way. If he is the man, look for marked improvement.
  3. Devon Johnson is the only recent one.........The original transfer...Jeremy McCommons..ended up playing LB at JMU
  4. Richlands should have the top defense in the area next season with their returners.
  5. So to be clear....to win in high school...transfers are a requirement. And if you want to be on a winning team......don't have to work hard.....just transfer to a school with a winning team.
  6. Negative Negan's new anti-transfer campaign!!!!!!!!!!!!
  7. Food for thought with your late night snack....and I know you're having one! “A man’s got to have a code, a creed to live by, no matter his job.†–John Wayne
  8. Gotta a better idea than Ned!! How about Negative Negan!!!!!!!!
  9. Had to wear one when they could get it on me. Had to drive it on with a hammer, never needed a chin strap though.
  10. You can be a bit more creative........
  11. To add some more humor.........transfers........its kind of like swiping you neighbor's kids to get another dependent on your tax return.
  12. The truth is this.......fans in Richlands have been drunk on success for a long time. I am guilty as charged as well. Kids transfer to Richlands because they want to win....the coaches want to win....the fans want to win...the community wants to win. You can take every other excuse and piss it in the wind. If Richlands fans would put themselves in the shoes of others, may be less back and forth. However, if other schools would benefit from some transfers..............may be less back and forth as well. My opinion on this is WELL documented. I have said if this continues, it would be a detriment to the program.....and you are starting to see it.
  13. Watching and listening to Richlands fans defend transfers is like going to an AA meeting where everybody just fell off of the wagon.
  14. I can't even spell transfer on this board without hearing footsteps outside the house and seeing the bushes move!!!!!!!!!
  15. ..........Not so fast my friend!!!!!!!!!
  16. I never said Richlands was a better team; however, I don't feel that they were 40 points worse either. They were completely in the game at 14 - 7, and the wheels fell off in the last two minutes of the first half. From what I saw from some of the staff, not all, they may have well hoisted a white flag up. I have seen better teams than Appomattox fall to worse teams than Richlands.... psychology. It's a good thing Blacksburg didn't listen to all of the "experts." As for Appomattox, Smith is one of the best coaches in the state. I have been very impressed how he interacts with the players before, during and after the games. I hope for Appomattox's sake, he stays there, as he will have many opportunities at larger schools. Oh and by the way, for those on here that said James White was too small, too this or to that....he looked like to me like he ran the ball pretty damn good against a team that nobody could run on. Kudos to White and the offensive line yesterday for that. It looks to me like next year's team could have some smash mouth element.
  17. Trust me Jeremy got his due. The most underrated player on those great teams (decent?, c'mon man!) was Jason Lester. Probably the best fullback to play at Richlands. He had 100 plus yards when we put the beat down on Thomas Jones and the PV Vikings back in '94. Most yards came of of inside traps.
  18. They did shoot their selves in the foot. What was telling for me, was when the team came out in the 2nd half, a good many of the coaching staff (or at least the ones I was watching) had their heads down like a bunch of whipped dogs. What would you expect from the players when your leader's body language reads "we are beat." If you don't believe you can win, you shouldn't be there, especially as a coach. Everybody was telling them how great Appomattox was, I guessed they just believed them.
  19. Richlands beat Lee, Abingdon, Salem and Orange in the playoffs that year. All at Richlands. You are right about the cleats, though.
  20. Appomattox was a good team no doubt, well coached and made few errors. I don't think they were world beaters by any stretch. Richlands had to play close to perfect to beat them and made way too many mistakes.
  21. Players rest better in their own beds. No need for an overnight stay.
  22. I always liked Danny. Big guy who was friendly and was always willing to talk. I liked Graham McPherson as well.
  23. He was a great running back and had a beast of a FB named Kilgore.
