  1. [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] they still have to play Winfield again and that might just be another loss. [/ QUOTE ] Logan just beat Winfield. 72-65. [/ QUOTE ] actually the final was 62-55, but the outcome was correct, Logan did win @ Winfield tonight. Winfield is a top 5 if not top 3 team, anyone who things other wise is just crazy, they will beat Poca in sectionals and give R'wood all they want in regionals, and i still predict them to beat R'wood....lol
  2. hokie07 i really think Magnolia could come away with a no. 2 seed, if the lineup i have makes charleston! and thats a big if.... Magnolia returns just about everything, if not everything from last seasons team that upset the Beavs in the qt. finals! i think Magonlia only has 3, maybe 4 loses if that. so yeah i think they could easily be a no. 2 seed, IF the teams i had seeded makes it that is... as for Poca/Winfield they have actually already played 3xs! Poca beat them in the first meeting by like 5pts in some holiday tourney. the Winfield beat them pretty handily in the 2nd meeting then Poca beats Winfield in the last meeting, but bare in mind Lamar Clark was not allowed to play.... the hard to be a good team 3xs is still in play there, cause Winfield got one over on Poca. i think in the sectional matchup between Poca/Winfield, that Winfield has the edge, Poca and Cotrill is like Summers County and Gunnoe, find a way to slow him down or even stop him and you can beat them! and Its possible cause they've done it...right now i think Pat McGinnis (Winfield coach) is arguably one of the better coaches in AA if not the state, for me it would be a toss up between him and Hatcher....JMO there... i will go as far as to say if Poca upsets Winfield in the post season, they will not upset Ravenswood! which will throw a wrench into how i see the state tourney being this season....haha
  3. yeah Logan has already lost to Winfield once this season (@ Logan) and with the next matchup at Winfield, lots of the Logan faithful are expecting another loss, but should Winfield beat R'wood to make Charleston, like i think they will, well we all know the old saying "its hard to beat a good team 3xs" the Westside/Logan championship game from 05 should be proof of that...Westside won both regular season games by a final of 56-53 but Logan won the championship game 60-56 i believe Winfield has the talent and ability to beat Ravenswood. JMO though. as for the seeding if this did happen i could see Winfield being seeded 4th or 5th. assuming Winfield won i believe the top 5 seeds would look like this Logan Magnolia (cause i give them the edge against Weir) Wyoming East Winfield Bluefield Winfield/Bluefield could possibly be flipped flopped again JMO i mean you think about Ravenswood really hasnt played any caliber teams. they play Wyo. East sometime this month, faced AAA Ripley, and faced AA Weir (and the Weir game has been the best challenge for them thus far) Winfield has played a tougher skd. and should be tourney ready! playing teams like Logan twice, Poca twice, and above average Summers Co. team, among others. i just think Winfield has everything in their favor to win that region anyways...
  4. as for Havens, i dont doubt his coaching abilities, however it seems like when Bluefield teams of the past have been successful, you guys have had a coach who was into the game and up/moving around and not just sitting there. Gaither is a good example, he didnt sit on his keester. at times when Bluefield done well under Gilliard, he wasnt sitting down either. i agree with the theory of a power struggle, i actually thought the Asst. Coach in the pull over Blfd. Sweater (i suppose that was Jeff Broyles) acted more like the head coach at times in the game than Havens did. JMO though as for Williard is on track to break his total 3 point shots made last season, being 80 something....as pointed out he has 65 of last count. but lets remember he had 11 in the first game of the season, you take that performance away and he's not done so well, but fact is fact he did it....sooo plus his numbers could be much higer if 3pt ratio had he made at least one in Wyo. East's last game against Oak Hill, but he went the whole game without hitting a 3 and East still won by like 9 or 10! as for a prediction for State Champ, well i'll put it to ya like this, if i was a betting man, i'd put my money on Logan. as pointed out, you got Bevins who is arguably the best big man in the state. O'Briant and Sorrell are dangerous from outside. and dont forget about freshman player Paul Williams, who is and has been making a name for himself this year, plus so many more. and not to mention the key mixture to it all, a very good head coach in Mark Hatcher. i'll go ahead and go out on the limb and predict and "upset" in Region 5 of AA, i'll say that Winfield not only downs Poca, but i say they down Ravenswood in the regional game as well. Caleb Ashley is a man child and with Lamar Clark back with that team, it makes them very dangerous! i thought Ravenswood was much better last yr than they are this year and Winfield beat them (and they didnt have Clark either, this year they do!) so i'll go Logan state champs, Winfield runners up however dont sleep on R1 or R8 either, Magnolia/Weir will be tough...no matter which team makes the tourney and Wyoming East should get past Westside in sectionals and Mount View in regionals. if they can get down there and get Willard stroking it from outside and get the big boys working the inside well, they could surprise some people!
  5. i dunno if i would say Logan runs off one player, being Bevins. they've won plenty of games where Bevins wasnt the deciding factor. as mentioned O'Briant and Sorrell are very dangerous and can hurt you if you try and double up on Bevins. and not leave out Freshman standout Paul Williams. he is gonna be one of the more tough if not the toughest player in the state come his senior year! Mark has got a good sqaud of athletes on his team at Logan, if you try and take one out, two or three others could step up at any given time. one thing that shocked me about Bluefield is just how they seemed to give up after getting down. Bluefield teams in time past have never done that, not even under Gilliard. Bluefield has some pure talent for sure! Craig Ponder is gonna be a good player/play maker for Bluefield in the future! another thing im shocked about concerning the Beavs is the action of the new coach, or should i say lack there of? in the Logan game, he just set on the bench for the most part. Mark was up howlering and cheering and encouraging his team, but the Beavs coach just sat there. i know he is the fomrer Montcalm coach and all, but would figure he'd be more into games than what he was/is.
  6. yep Bailey is the redhead step child for the Renegades! as for Westside, definetly not the team that the RenegadeNation has been use to seeing produced but they are improving some as the season goes along... if they could ever play a complete 4 qt. game, they could be as good as the teams/competition they've faced, but its getting them to play a complete game. Westside was in this game with Bluefield until the 3rd qt. where Bluefield went on the 25-9 tare. it was 39 all at halftime. it will be interesting to see how this team comes along by the time sectionals come and we play Wyoming East. the winner of that game has a free ride to States. cause Mount View (and Iaeger) is gawd awful this season. as for the next Westside/Bluefield matchup i'd like to say i hope it is like this one, but even the good WS teams struggled when coming to BSC to play Blfd. so i personally expect the blowout to come at BSC....
  7. [ QUOTE ] I might be wrong, but in my opinion, if bluefield doesnt find a way to hit some deep shots then it is going to be a long year. [/ QUOTE ] season is still young and i believe Blfd. has the talent to come around. teams that it will be a long season for are most likely Westside.... wyoming East could be another possible team as the weeks go on, the wheat and tare will be seperated....i still say the top 2 or 3 teams in AA are Logan, Ravenswood, Winfield, and Weir or Magnolia....
  8. Bluefield and Princeton evenly matched.... did i read those words in the same statement??? id say a lot of Blfd fans would call for the new coaches heads if they lost either of the two games to princeton, especially since Gilliard is coaching them. aside from the princeton/Bluefield talks i think it is very nice of the gesture that princeton is planning on doing in remember coach flou. it was a sad day when we lost that man. a great coach.
  9. so there is some rumor going around on some other message boards that the Summers County Boys basketball program is gonna be something extremley awesome this season. supposedly they are gonna split games with Winfield, handle Logan fairly easy whenever they meet them (supposedly in the post season, which i guess means they are gonna run through Bluefield as well), and they are suppose to beat Wyoming East at least 2 maybe 3 times this season. and bring home the AA state title in boys basketball!?!?!?!? now i dunno what kinda crackheads are posting on these sites now days. but i must have missed the memo about how awesome SC was last season and how more awesome they are gonna be this season so i know they have Gunnoe, what/who else do they have? and are they gonna be as good as rumored to be? personally i cant see them beating Winfield or East either one at any time during there matchups this season. and i dont see them being able to beat Blfd. in the post season, and IF they would by some chance have an opportunity to meet Logan, i believe they'd get squashed by at least 25+.
  10. i give Liberty and the coaching squad their all the credit in the world. when it comes to football they seem to have not only WE's number, but Westside as well.... in find funny sorta, the one yr. Westside able to beat them, a WE team that is head and shoulders above WS could not beat them.... oh well goes to show you can never take a game or team lightly. what shocks me is that Liberty not only beat East, but beat East on East's turf.
  11. Round 1: #16 Roane co. at #1 Bluefield* #9 Chapmanville* at #8 Keyser* #13 Logan* at #4 Berkeley Springs #12 Sissonville at #5 Scott* #15 Grafton at #2 Wayne* #10 Liberty Raleigh at #7 Tyler* #14 Tolsia at #3 James Monroe* #11 Wyoming East* at #6 Magnolia Round 2 #8 Keyser at #1 Bluefield* #10 Liberty at #2 Wayne* #11 Wyoming East at #3 James Monroe* #13 Logan at #5 Scott* Round 3 #13 Logan at #1 Bluefield* #11 Wyoming East at # 10 Liberty Championship Game Nov. 30th at Wheeling Island Stadium #13 Logan vs. #11 Wyoming East Wyoming East is your 2007 AA state champs....hahahaha j/k Championship game will probably be Bluefield vs Wayne. and i go with Bluefield winning the title AGAIN!
  12. with all due respect to the Beavers, their fan base, and everyone in between. i can honestly say i respect Bluefield and all their accomplishments and what they've done in basketball (and football), but with all due respect, i would hate to coach a football or basketball team for you guys....lol i can understand why coahces would debate within themselves as to take the job or not. i understand your alls desire for success and how you've grown use to the winning ways. but even the best of teams go through dry spells. now i know its not cause of a lack of talent, cause the talent seems to come out of the wood work down that way. but i say lets give this new coach and the assistants a chance before we hang them out to dry and want to tire and feather them and send them out on a rail. i personally have the Beavs in my preseason top 5 in AA 1. Logan 2. Wyo. East 3. Winfield 4. Ravenswood 5. Bluefield btw, talent wise.....what/who do you guys have coming back this season, that we should keep our ear and eyes open for??? btw i look forward to the Westside/Blfd matchups again this season. Westside is seeming to improve, already! we got Eric Bailey (the red head step child) back for another season. and rumor has it an old teammate of his will be reunited with him this season, in D.R. Hicks, i've only heard one or two ppl talk about him, but they sing his praises very highly along with him we will have 3 or 4 good "role" players we should have two big men on our team this yr, but whether or not they've improved will be another story... i still dunno how the outcome for the season will be. Wyo. East is still gonna be a tough draw for us this season...
  13. yawn howler to me when its cold and December and Christmas is almost here and the sound of roundballs are dribbling (yeah i know that dont sound right) but still then you'll have my attention, until then i'll deal with this sport....lol nah im glad football season is here. though i still like basketball first, football is my second love...though my school never does to well....still enjoy myself.
  14. my first h.s. football experience as well was at Big Creek, had never been there before and sadly i've not been back since then. At that time i didnt know about the history of Big Creek or the "Rocket Boys" either at that time, since the movie i know about the place alot better through research. i enjoyed my football experience @ Big Creek. i personally would love to see a lot of old schools raise back up to the places they once use to be in sports, but for most that will never be, either schools being shut down/consolidated with others or other reasons will cause this from being seen. speaking of consolidation, are they still working on the new school for Big Creek/Iaeger or whoever it was suppose to be? if so they could possibly end up being a good football, baseball, or basketball program, maybe?
  15. [ QUOTE ] Liberty-Raleigh over Westside [/ QUOTE ] hey G, looks like you missed that one and apparently so did Liberty. Westside upsets them 14-6 a pass thrown for a TD by new QB junior Eric Bailey (get use to hearing his name in football and basketball) and a TD ran in by HB Nick Lambert got Westside its first win of the season in the first game of the season. We've alread matched our win column from last season as we went 1-9 last yr, and now we start out 1-0, a possible glance of good things to come? maybe so. i mean im not wishing or hoping for no state title, but to go .500 would be a good season for us, considering how we've not had a football team to every do so well at neither OHS or BHS and the only noteable football team at Westside was the one that got destroyed by Bluefield in 03 or 04, so yeah needless to say im very excited about the possobilities for this season. oh while you may have missed it with the Liberty Raleigh over Westside prediction, you made it up with the Matewan over Tug Valley prediction personally i think that could be among one of the bigger upsets on Friday night here in WV. Matewan is a very young squad compaired to Tug Valley. either young and determination or having the refs on your side payed off for the Tigers yet again.
  16. i've been looking at the banner that is sported on all the message boards here in the swva circle, and i've gotta ask, is that Chris Blankenship from Westside who is within the banner? its the 2nd picture back from the wrestling pic. to me it looks like him but im not sure. not that it matters or is important or anything as far as a talking point goes, just curious is all.
  17. [ QUOTE ] Just got back from the game. Boy was it exciting. I must bring this up though. There had to have been some homecooking when we played at logan. Because we demolished them tonight in every aspect of the game. Ponder was hot, he hit a couple of jump shots and we jumped out to an early lead, it was all bluefield after that. We went into halftime up by 10 i believe. Then the 2nd half chance cotrell opened up and got some big steals and some good baskets. chance cotrell goes up for a layup and miss, and i swear to you guys ponder jumps 4 foot off the ground and tommahawks the ball for a slam dunk, i've never saw anything like that. He came outa nowhere. then shaun brooks goes on a breakaway and slams it real hard. This game was all bluefield for start to finish. We do need to work on our rebounding, other than that. I think were pretty set. This team is really starting to excite me guys.. [/ QUOTE ] there was some homecooking that went on down at Logan, but still it doesnt make up for the lack of how bad Bluefield played on that night. I mean Moore and Ponder was the only ones who really did anything on that evening. + Bluefield was in control of the game until Gilliard did what he's known best for doing and brought Bluefield out of the press and Logan was able to get back in it. no. 24 Bryantz O'Brien and no. 21 for Logan got hot outside and Bevins did his part inside to get Logan back in the game and bring the victory to them. could Bluefield had won the game at Logan back in Janurary? yes they could have, but when they was brought out of the press, everything just snow-balled. Bluefield looks good and they are the only team that i look at and say for certain could/should be in the AA title game this season, the only question is who will be there with them? will it be Wyoming East, Ravenswood, Weir, Logan, Westside, Lincoln Co., or who....that my dear Watson is the question.
  18. oh i agree 100% with ya, it was definetly a quality win. MV and Logan both finally got victories at Westside this season. and MV almost upset WS's apple cart again last night, as WS beat MV by 2pts in OT 65-63. Westside senior all stater Chris Blankenship tallied 32pts last night hitting 2 treys and going 14-16 at the foul line to help the Rengades edge out the Golden Knights. again i say with this MV team as i have all the others, it just depends on which team shows up on which night as to whether or not you'll have a walk in the park victory or a fight til your death battle.
  19. but the win over WS @ WS is the only quality win MV has had all season too. and keep in mind they beat a WS team who early in the season was still developing and trying to find themselves as a team. WS biggest p;ayer Blankenship was not playing and the team was still adjusting to new coach Nick Cook.
  20. oh i agree i was glad to see bboth teams was able to defend home court. i'm thrilled about being able to split with you guys. again hope we see Bluefield in Charleston. wouldnt mind a rematch with you guys, you all are fun to watch. best of luck the rest of the season as well!
  21. hahahaha, dont look for that twopac, Westside is as terrible if not worst than Oceana or Baileysville ever was in football. so dont anticipate that.... i will agree with you that the officiating was pretty horrible tonight, but it was horrible on both ends IMHO. the officals that was there was from greenbrier or somewhere like that, i thought they missed a lot of calls both for WS and Blfd. Once again, i think the fact that Blfd. came out of the press seemed to hurt. That is when Westside started on their run and what not, I'm even more disappointed with the fact of WS not saying focus once theye took the lead. had Blankenship and Toler chipped in with Bailey and Lusk in scoring, the game could have been a double digit win, IMO. as for the comment on "not used to that style of athleticism in their sports", actually we are use to seeing it, when seen it in MV, Logan, and Wyo. East i mean im sorry but when you take 3-4 steps, the last time i checked its called a walk. the last time i checked the last time you go towards the basket aggressive as you called it and a player is standing there with his feet planted it is a charge. but again i say the officiating was horrible on both ends. despite what some say Bluefield still has a good team IMO, i still see them as a top 3 team, Dexter Moore is just a pure shooter and Ponder impresses me as well. Bluefield has nothing to be ashamed about having only two defeats on the season and the two defeats coming by a grand total of 3pts. pretty impressive hopefully we'll see you Beaver fans in Charleston.
  22. just wantesd to say congratz on the victory against Princeton. Princeton has been letting me down as we go late into the basketball season, i picked them to come out of their region over a down Woodrow team this yr, now i just dont know. anyways look forward to the battle tonight, and that's what i believe it will be, i just hope we can pull the "upset", if not i hope we can keep it close like last time. safe travels to all who venture to the game.
  23. i'll agree that Blfd. has the best PG in the state in Dexter Moore, but as far as all around starting 5, i believe Wyo. East's starting 5 is just as good if not a bit better. the difference between Blfd./Wyo. East is the 3 guard system that East runs, aside from that and maybe speed, their isnt much difference.
  24. blame the coaching style of E.G. for BR's negativity, i remember a time when BR was one of the bigger if not biggest Bluefield supporters in basketball, but one thing i've learned about BR he's not a supporter or fan of poor coaching. i really dunno what to make of Bluefield's game with Princeton Friday night. a part of me wants to say that Bluefield will win this one, but most of the Blfd/Princeton games have been close as late. either way, i say whoever wins does it by single digits. that aside i cant wait til Saturday when Bluefield comes to WS should be interesting. i honestly believe WS is peaking at the right time of the season, hanging with both Bluefield (lost by 6) and Wyoming East (lost by 7 @ Westside), then pulling out victories against Logan by 19 @ Logan and against Scott by 21 (a team WS had to comeback against and then barley beat on the road by 9) WS is definetly on a good run right now, just hope we can keep it up. now i know some of you are gonna think im odd but i hope we lose to East at East and that East goes undefeated going into sectionals, cause i want them to have the biggest head a team's ever had on their shoulders coming into the sectional game, so hopefully we can knock them off! speaking of East and Bluefield in the same post, for anyone out of Bluefield interesting in seeing what East is like and if they are the real deal in AA, they will play Mount View in the coal classic Tuesday night in the final game of the night (9pm i believe). it might be interesting, then it very well could be one sided (and one sided in the fact of it being all East) just thought i would drop that note.
  25. yeah that sounds about right. just depends on which way you wanna come. you can take I77 to beckley and get off at the Beckley exit heading towards Kopperston Mountain (better known as 99) towards Oceana once you get into Oceana you will come to an intersection where a car lot and 7-11 is make a right and head down town you will pass a Sunoco, Citgo, Hardees, and Adam Toler Funeral home, keep on going. you will come upon a car wash called Westside car wash, just a little below it you will have another intersection, you can either go towards Baileysville or Man, head towards B'ville going down through that way you will pass a oceana town mall (it has a magic mart/pizza hut, etc.) go on pass that and Westside is probably 2 miles below there. if you dont wanna go that route. you can always come across herndon mountain where you will come out between Mullens and Pineville head West on route 10 follow it in Baileysville, when you come to an intersection for Oceana/Gilbert (right below Baileysville grade school, make a right towards Oceana) and go that direction towards Oceana for about 3-5 miles or so and you will come upon Westside. either way you will be traveling the same distance pretty much.
