  1. h I have no doubt that the majority of Richlands players played in the youth leagues. While in midget league, the best athletes are spread out with different teams, and are all getting their touches . Egos and parents are satisfied. Then they move to 8th grade and suddenly only 2 or 3 kids are touching the football. Now Junior is being told to block for a kid he thinks isn't as fast, strong, or elusive. Junior and his parents get frustrated, and Junior dedicates to another sport or quits athletics entirely. It happens everywhere, and used to happen in RIchlands. Regarding your secret ---- Turner has figured out a lot of people. I wouldn't expect to run over Union, no matter what offense Richlands is running. Smith must have figured us out in overtime. Reed and Colobro won at home this year with a team that may do some damage in 3A... and Richlands was right at their door for a tying score when the game ended. Your secret implies Richlands should win every game.
  2. I think Coach Mance understands that continued success in high school football is tied directly to enticing the best athletes in the school to play football. How do you do that? By including more kids in the offense. I see what you're saying, but I believe Coach Mance has figured out where his bread is buttered.
  3. I'm not your biggest fan, but be careful if you ever venture into Stark County.....http://genoskwaproject.com/tgp-blog/man-shoots-bigfoot-stark-county-ohio
  4. They scroll thru the first two paragraphs of the page down to the pairings from last year. I did it myself the first time I looked at the page.

  6. You sound smarter with every post. Then again, you started at brain-dead. You're the one criticizing the most successful coach in SWVA.
  7. Quarterback controversy? Lol, no one said that. I don't think anybody in their right mind would expect him to sit last year's player of the year. I think Mance is probably just trying to hit the reset button on a very good player to get him focused for the playoffs. As for your comments, you obviously have a gripe with Mance's philosophy in general. As you have a right to do. I will take what we get with his coaching style, as I'm sure most every other school in SWVA would if given the chance to take him.
  8. They ran from the I over 50% of the time against Lebanon. Not with Howie, as he and Lowe didn't play due to their injuries. I was told that the plan has been to run Howie from the I behind Lowe for quite some time now. They sampled it against Bluefield, but since then, they've had nagging injuries which I'm sure has delayed further implementation. Regarding the QB position, I'm not sure what's going on there. A couple of weeks ago, Mance mentioned on the pre-game radio show that he wanted to get the sophomore QB, Trey Brown, into the game earlier than mop-up duty. Friday night he split time with JLA. I'm thinking he may be trying to light a fire under his starting QB.
  9. Richlands has a wealth of receivers. The idea that play selection has to be any different when Howie is back there, as opposed to any of the other backs, is quite simply, silly. They can run from the I as they would typically run from the I. As you say, he would make a hell of a decoy on play action...... My only concern is possible injury, but if Richlands doesn't improve their run game, their odds of reaching the title game are extremely poor.
  10. Doesn't matter....he's still had the two most electrifying runs of the year from a running back at Richlands. And while having minimal carries. Actual "old school football" relied on getting the ball in the hands of the team's best athlete as often as possible.
  11. I was told he was a running back prior to moving to Richlands. While Howie has had maybe 4 carries from tailback this year, he's had the two most memorable runs. The first being a 26 yard run against Bluefield that was called back because Howie hurdled a tackler. The second was the 68 yard touchdown run against Bluefield that was also called back. How many other 68 yard runs from scrimmage has Richlands had this year? I don't recall any.
  12. . Mance moving Howie to tailback is a kool-aid I'll happily drink.
  13. I recognized your genius in my last post.
  14. Who needs coach Mance when we have the sheer genius of local insight? Which member of the team is your wannabe running back relative?
  15. Mance is clearly addressing that issue now. I will be interested in seeing how they do out of the I when Howie and Lowe get back in pads.
  16. Not sure why you felt the need to take a shot at Booker......perhaps because he hammered a nail or two in the coffin of his former team a few weeks ago...
  17. Yeah, my post suddenly isn't quite as witty to me. I'm very concerned about this game.
  18. More importantly, I've got to make it a point to retrieve my reading glasses before I post on my iPad. Punctuation and spelling tend to suffer when I fail to do so. Strangely, the double quotes within the double quotes annoys me more than any of the other errors. Screw it....I'm just going to ignore the urge to re-read my posts from this point forward.....
  19. ....and because our follow up posts landed at the same time. Observer is wise...I know my history:)
