  1. Yeah it was probably the largest attendance for a regular season game that I can remember. Clintwood game was a big crowd this year though. I think cold weather was a slight factor last night as far as attendance. I agree that if we are playing at home in the state semis there will be a tremendous crowd this year. I am proud of the Honaker and Clintwood teams as well and how good football is in this little corner of SWVA. Combined record of Haysi, Clintwood and Honaker is 27-3 with only losses coming from playing each other. Even more impressive.
  2. I agree redtiger on the significance early with the goal line stand. True also that the Haysi pass rush was a huge factor. Bowen is an absolute stud and Tristan Yates had a nice game along with Tanner Oquinn. The line played very well on both sides. Way too many penalties on Haysi considering the fact that Haysi's defensive end was getting held on practically every play. Despite the blowout score it was easy to see this Honaker team has some strengths. They are a solid football team but Haysi just played very well. I was somewhat disappointed with the # in attendance. Thought it would be much more. It was very similar to the Clintwood game earlier in the year and didn't come anywhere close to approaching the crowd on hand for the playoff game against Lebanon in '91. Haysi's last undefeated regular season was actually '95, not '93. To me this may be the most impressive undefeated season though considering we had to beat a solid 8 win Clintwood team and a previously unbeaten Honaker team.
  3. Yes, they did...finally. It was about time. He did about what I expected he would if given the rock consistently. Excellent offensive play calling tonight from Colley.
  4. haha.."old" is absolutely correct :) to answer your post redtiger...it's a tough one. Last 10 years Ryan Jones comes to mind. Also, Jake Colley and Blake Owens. I agree Josh Yates was tough.
  5. kory was good, real good...but don't know that he was the best athlete ever to play at haysi. for such a small school, haysi has been very fortunate in that category...had a lot of really good athletes over the years.
  6. Yes, Caleb Powers was VERY solid and never got enough carries. I hope the same thing doesn't happen with Bowen.
  7. Not condoning the alleged trash talking but I did feel bad for the kid last night in that he is not being utilized in a way to maximize his talents. Even though he made a couple of plays last week against Castlewood, he was not properly utilized in that game either...in my opinion. I'm speaking on offense in the Castlewood game..and offensively and defensively in the Clintwood game.
  8. Nothing at all wrong with going for 2 on those or calling the timeouts at the end of the half. Shouldn't even be questioned.
  9. He's just a kid...and a tough one at that. Pretty much a reach to say he alone quit when it looked to me like the entire team mailed it in when the goin got a little tough. The Haysi team in the first 18 or so minutes of the game looked like a completely different team than in the last 30 minutes or so.
  10. No, you're not the last one. I don't have a Facebook account either.
  11. There are really no drawbacks to the move. Haysi doesn't need a true tight end with the kind of offense they run.
  12. Derrick Blair #22 was very, very impressive in this game. Was trucking people left and right all night. Made alot of plays on defense and would have easily went over 300 yards rushing if the score hadn't gotten so out of hand. He had about 220 at halftime. Moving him to RB and Owens to QB has completely changed the face of this team. Will be interesting to see what happens moving forward. Would love to see them have the opportunity to face Castlewood or Clintwood again.
  13. I heard Honaker was up 20-14 late. Not sure if that is a final or not though.
  14. I agree with you counts. We sat together and had the same perspective it seems. I think Haysi will be a little better on offense this year but a little worse on defense. East Ridge was terrible in my estimation. I think the final was Haysi 21 East Ridge 0 but with the way they ran the clock straight through the game ended really quick so I don't think it would be that close if they played a real game.
  15. Clintwood has been right on the brink for 4 or 5 years now...just haven't been able to get over the hump. Maybe this is the year.
  16. Yes Haysi would love to get Lebanon on the schedule. Its gonna be tough to find 10 with all the teams that have dropped them. I would like to see them pick Castlewood back up as well.
  17. Maybe Holston will be ok then. I heard they really struggled to move the ball last week against Haysi.
  18. Don't believe so...the trains that come through Haysi are of the CSX Diesel variety. Maybe something one of the fans had. I know Gate City has somekind of locomotive horn they blow when they score(atleast they used to)
  19. I think they go 3-7 beating Shelby, Oak Hill and Abindgon.
  20. Just stating facts...no need to take any kind of pills. Someone said Honaker should go to the southwest and it seemed you were defending there suggestion. No big deal. Just my opinion that they would have no business going AA...dont even know why anyone would suggest it. I know they have done pretty well against some AA schools but if their level of success in single A means they should move up to AA then so should Gate City, Clintwood, Powell Valley and Haysi.
  21. "I wasn't talking about just football. I was talking about other sports: basketball, softball, baseball, and track." Well I guess Haysi needs to move up to AA too...they have quite a dominant record against Honaker over the years in Football and Basketball and have been fairly equal in Baseball and have absolutely owned Honaker in track.
  22. If you are talking about football then you must be referring to about a 4 years span from 2000 to around 2004 cause other than those few years I don't remember Honaker being able to play with alot of AA schools...atleast the ones that are competitive.
  23. The Southwest is a Double A district....Honaker is too small to be AA.
  24. I figure the BDD is Haysi's to lose and the only team they could lose it to is Honaker. Coeburn will compete well in the CD but they will by no means dominate. Rye Cove has beat them the last 3 or 4 years in a row. Coeburn has a little work to do to get their program back to what it was in the late 80's and early 90's under Carl Richards.
  25. I think Division 2 single A in Virginia is very similar enrollment wise to AA in West Virginia.
