  2. http://www.wakeforest.rivals.com/default.asp?type=2 http://www.wakeforest.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=910215 Jared Shelton DeaconsIllustrated.com Publisher The Wake Forest offense struggled in 2008, but the Demon Deacons have secured quite a collection of offensive talent in the 2009 recruiting class. Deacons Illustrated takes a look at this unit and hands out our offensive class awards. Best Athlete: While this recruiting class has plenty of athletic ability, perhaps nobody has as much potential as Clarksville (MD) River Hill wide receiver Michael Campanaro. The River Hill standout was arguably the most productive player in Maryland high school football history, averaging over 2,000 all-purpose yards in his three seasons at the varsity level. Although he doesn't have great size, Campanaro has elite quickness and football smarts. He should be able to contribute for the Demon Deacons at a variety of positions including wide receiver, running back, and punt returner. Most Underrated: While Wake has several players in this class who can be considered underrated, perhaps the one player who has the most upside is hybrid tight end prospect Matt Muncy. At 6-foot-4, the Tazewell (VA) Tazewell star has the ability to create mismatch opportunities all over the field. Couple his size with his 4.6 speed, and Muncy has the potential to be a very useful weapon for the Deacs. Biggest Surprise: It should not come as a surprise that Wake Forest snagged a couple of recruits from the Dallas-Ft.Worth metroplex, but the signing of Duncanville (TX) Duncanville running back Josh Harris didn't look like a possibility after he broke off his original commitment. Luckily for the Deacs he ended up committing back to Wake Forest after looking around at some other schools in December. Harris is an explosive back with a college body and good top end speed. He was a serious difference maker when he returned at the end of his senior season. Barnes will add some much needed depth to the center position. Best position: One of the biggest struggles with the Wake Forest offense this past season was the offensive line. Although they improved their performance at the end of the year, the Deacs could definitely use more talent in the trenches. The offensive line added two promising young players in Rocky Mount (NC) Rocky Mount center Whit Barnes and Lynchburg (VA) Brookville tackle Devin Bolling. Barnes is one of the best center prospects in the nation, and Bolling is one of the most underrated tackle prospects on the east coast. 3. http://www.wakeforest.rivals.com/default.asp?type=1 January 9, 2009 Jared Shelton DeaconsIllustrated.com Publisher Tazewell (VA) Tazewell athlete Matt Muncy led an amazing turnaround for the Bulldogs in 2008. After going 1-9 in 2007, Muncy produced over 1,600 all-purpose yards to lead his team into the playoffs. Deacons Illustrated caught up with the jumbo athlete to find out how he's preparing for his arrival to Wake Forest. "We had a really good season" Muncy said. "We went from 1-9 to 9-3; we lost in the regional championship. We missed an extra point in overtime and lost by one point. I scored four touchdowns in that game." That type of production was not a one-time occurrence either, it was a trend throughout the season. When all was said and done, Muncy had over 900 yards rushing, over 700 yards receiving, and 18 touchdowns. Not bad for a kid who was never able to get comfortable in any one position. "I played everywhere" he explained. "I played quarterback, running back, wide receiver, kick returner, and punt returner. We ran a little bit of the wildcat so that I could get my hands on the ball more. I ended up with first team all-region running back and kick returner. I was also second team all-state state wide receiver. " Muncy has good speed for his size, and could create matchup problems for opposing defenses at Wake. When he finished up his senior season, Muncy wasted no time switching gears towards his next challenge: Wake Forest football. "I talk to Coach [steve] Russ all the time" Muncy said. "He came to school a couple of times this season, and he's coming this week. He's going to be coming up today, and probably once a week after that so that I can learn the playbook." Although he won't actually get a copy of the playbook, Muncy admitted that Russ wants him to get a head start on the Demon Deacon offense so that he'll be ready the day he steps on campus. But where exactly will the running back/quarterback/wide receiver/return specialist be playing when he dons the black and gold? "On the roster I'll be listed as a tight end, but a lot of the time I'll be split out and motioning around. I'm going to be a new hybrid tight end that can line up next to the tackle and block, but I don't think I'll be in the three-point stance very much." Has Muncy spoken with the Wake Forest coaching staff about redshirting? "There's a chance I could play as a true freshman, but I think I might redshirt" he said. "I'm actually kind of looking forward to redshirting because Ben Wooster would be graduated and it'd give me a chance to get bigger and then come in and get a lot of playing time." Muncy, a 6-foot-4 and 215 pound athlete, plans on enrolling at Wake Forest in the fall of 2009. Deacons Illustrated is the premier site for Wake Forest recruiting and athletics information.
  4. there is 11 players on a team Budro. elswick, muncy, nor cole could win a game without 10 other "atleast decent" players surrounding them. could you imagen if muncy and elswick/cole played for the same ball club??
