  1. Honestly, I think it depends on what the mission is. If the mission is to hunt down and kill Taliban and Al Qaeda, then the 30k may be enough. But if we're going to continue to try to "secure" Afghanistan or continue to try to nation build.....well, I'm not sure we can put enough troops in the field to do that effectively. I honestly don't know that the powers that be, either now or in the Bush years(especially the last of the Bush years) really understand what they got us into in Afghanistan when they decided to for lack of a better term "own" the place. We really don't understand the culture there, and I think that has hurt us(and I don't mean that in a wishy-washy "can't we just get along" way, I mean it more in a know your enemy kind of way) If this surge is for military purposes only, just to hunt down and kill bad guys, then I see nothing wrong with it. If it's to do more nation building, then honestly I fear we're wasting lives for nothing.
  2. Pretty simple really, by taking FSU and it being Bowdens last game they're guaranteed a sellout and great tv ratings. If Bowden wasn't retiring this year, no way would they take FSU IMO.
  3. Other than having coach Kirk, do you know what Chapmanville brings back this year? I don't know much about them. I am really looking forward to bball season this year, while my hometown team is gonna be way down(James Monroe) the quality in this area in AA is as good as i've seen it top to bottom. The only team you didn't mention that I keep hearing about is Shady. I keep hearing that they have maybe their most talented team ever up there. Now, I don't know that that reallly means all that much, but they could play spoiler somewhere down the road.
  4. Honestly it doesn't really seem like it takes much for a field to be playoff approved anymore. I know when I was in school at Peterstown, ours wasn't approved(and don't get me wrong IMO it shouldn't have been) so we played all our home playoff games in Princeton, which I think just gave it more of a "big game" atmosphere. Now, I see fields getting approved that aren't as nice as our old facility was at all. I think it just takes away from the feeling that the playoffs are an event for these kids, seems like it tends to make it just another game.
  5. JM had the same issue with them a few years back when they played them in the regular season.
  6. Honestly, and i've no dog in this fight at all....couldn't care less about Abingdon or Marion. But the simple fact of the matter is that Abingdon fans have bitched, moaned and whined after every single loss this year about something or another, so it's just a little hard to take anything coming from you guys seriously.
  7. Doubt seriously that either team would give the Beavers any trouble at all. Should be smooth sailing into the semi finals.
  8. Basically James Monroe doesn't play Giles anymore because idiot fans from both sides couldn't control themselves. Pretty much a couple dozen fights would break out during/after those games, so after a few years of that enough was enough.
  9. Jr. league baseball??? Are you f'n kidding me? For the love of god grow up.
  10. Buzzsaw, I think if the WV system was tweaked just a tiny bit to allow some points awarded for strength of schedule, it'd be just about as good as it can get. I know Gman figured out the WV ratings adding in the VA SOS points and if I recall correctly it didn't mean huge drops or rises in the ratings for anybody, but in Bluefields case this year it may have meant a 2nd home playoff game.
  11. No, animosity here, and don't have any idea what the deal with it is either. Kid is one of the best pure football players I've seen in a while....and while it might piss fans off from both sides, I'd venture to say he reminds me a good bit of Ben Thornton, only Lilly is a bit smaller and faster.

    Mr. Jenks

I think the "hot chocolate incident" happened as the band walked by the Bluefield student section before or after the halftime performance. But honestly, is this what we're going to quibble about now.....band abuse? Didn't get to go last night, but thanks to frequent updates from a Bluefield buddy of mine(thanks gamer) was able to keep up with it pretty well. Congrats to Bluefield on the win, and congrats to JM for keeping it a lot more competitive than I really thought they would.
  13. Yeah I saw that on the other board too. I was really hoping we'd manage to pick Princeton up again. We could be looking pretty far afield next year for games it looks like.
  14. So with them dropping JM, that leaves 3 spots on the schedule to fill next year?
  15. I'm hoping for a good game, but I don't think that JM will be able to keep it real close. If they can manage to control the clock, they may have an outside chance to keep it close late, but honestly that's not likely.
  16. Actually missed it, what did Larry David do?
  17. Honestly, the only thing I think about this is the fact that from the VT point of view there is way to much focus still on GT and not enough on UNC.
  18. My understanding(and I wasn't there, this is 2nd or third hand info) is that he took a hit, then collapsed on the sideline a bit later. Not real sure exactly what happened.
  19. According to a poster on the WVpreps board, he's doing much better today. Apparently it was very serious though. According to the poster on the other board they had him on a ventilator until today, took him off of that and the swelling of the brain had lessened a good bit....looks like he's going to be ok.
  20. How many teams make the playoffs out of the region?
  21. Buzzsaw, I agree completely with you about afghanistan. IMO trying to nation build in that place is a failing proposition entirely. But the question I have is when did our focus change there? The one thing that has frustrated me to no end is that since the Iraq war started, there has been little to no coverage of afghanistan.
  22. I'm guessing that's just a rumor right now, pretty sure if they'd decided that they were doing that this year that everyone would know about it. Could very well be in the works for next year however. And always possible that the home team would choose to do it that way.
  23. Cause they want to be up 28-0?
