  1. It does'nt matter if they played above their heads or beyond their potential. It also does'nt matter if Richlands played below expectations or on par with the talent level they possess. This was a great SWD game between to storied rivals. When you throw that into the equation you can toss the records. I wont say that Richlands may have went into the game taking Graham light.(Doubt that Mance will let that happen) Graham has a defense that will hit you and Richlands' offense has been spotty. Thats what made this game close and allowed Graham to find the confidence and belief that they could win this game. If that confidence carries over thru the rest of the season more wins will follow. I beleive that Richlands will rebound with a strong performance against Tazewell.
  2. The purpose of playing or participating in any sport is to finish on top or as the winner. That being said any attempt to gain an advantage over your opponent that is neither illegal or unethical is sound strategy. While football is a physical game of field position, another strategy employed at all levels is the on of psyche. Trying to frustrate your opponent to the point that they make mistakes that you may capitalize on is not "Unsportsmanlike". It's smart.
  3. Richlands has to much on Defense for Graham to be effective on Offense. My quess would be that Graham may not score in this one. Graham's Defense will hit, so we'll see if Richlands can find some offense before the fourth quarter. Could be an interesting game.
  4. I commented that the G-men had Little Talent. The really sad thing about Graham's situation is that there seems to be kids in the school that could probably give a boost to the program but choose (for some reason) not to play.
  5. The single wing(with the spinning fullback) does not require a "BIG" line. The linemn have to be smart and execute. The nature of the offense allows for good blocking angles and pulling (or trapping) linemen. A small(not weak) well diciplined line can be successful with the single wing.
  6. Let me spin it for you. I myself support Tazewell (Hometown, you know how that works). Read my post again and you will see that I said "IF" Abingdon beats Richlands, which is doubtful (although now I sincerely hope they find a way) then they will have an edge over the other teams in the SWD. Coming into the season I don't think that anyone would disagree that Richlands looks like the team to beat. So if Abingdon wins this game where does that place them? As far as my comments about the other teams in the district, it’s clear that Graham, Tazewell, Grundy are no where near the teams that they were. My posts simply states why. Graham has talent, just not enough to be competitive with the teams that they have faced so far (and it looks like injuries may bring that talent pool down a little further). Tazewell has yet to find any confidence in a system that can work (But they are small and young). Grundy does not have a good feeder program "YET"(perhaps in the future they will). I have witnessed Carroll County come out and play above expectations one week and flat the next. Marion “is†unproven at this point in the season. And the last part of my post points out that the best I think Abingdon can Hope for is a second place finish in the district and a possible playoff birth. So with out many more words that simply means that the almighty Richlands is most likely going to win the district. So ignorance is "yours" for assuming that I was talking SH!! about anyone of these fine young men that have the heart to play football. And to quote you from another thread "i doubt any decisions are made on this board....but, it's still fun to talk about football...so chill out...it's all good." Lance

I think you were confused. PHS had nearly 200 yards on the ground. Nearly 130 in the air. The offense worked. The defense on the other hand surrendered way to many points. That is a direct result of not having enough numbers to make adequate subs. People like you and the Great mesiah Walters have attacked every coach and kid that has been involved with the football program for a number of years.(I assure you that if he were the "Coach" that "HE" has confinced people he is, he would employed as such somewhere) The "I" formation? With an undersized line? As for changing the offense, anyone who "Understands" football will attest to the stategy that you form your Offense and Defense around the talent that is available. You will not run power football with undersized players. If you were show up and support the kids, the coaches and school at sports functions they might be more enjoyable for you. Of course there's always the option of becoming an educator and applying for the job.
  8. Why does every statement have to be an insult to you. What I posted (while not completely factual) shows no ill will to any team. Graham has "A Little" talent(Kids wont play for some reason). Grundy "is" down(no feeder progarm). Tazewell has no confidence(new system on both sides of the ball). Marion "is" unproven(Chilhowie Northwood Patrick Henry). And you dont know what to expect from Carrol County.
  9. Every team has nights that seem to be letdowns. The statement wasn't meant as an insult. Traditionally speaking CC teams seem to play to the level of their competition. If they could manage a high level of intensity for 10 games then they could be a force.
  10. First of all there is no trash talk in this statement. Simply explaining that IF(that leaves room for possibilities) the Falcons manage to take this game the rest of the SWD seems to be down. Tazewell, Graham , Grundy, CC and Marion have not proven it otherwise.
  11. Real young and real small. Not alot of skill at the skill positions and a marginal line. Very little speed. In the games I've been to they dont seem to have alot of aggression on D either.

Berkner High School - Richardson Texas Mansfield Summit High School – Arlington Texas Baldwin High School –Pittsburg PA Severna Park High School, Severna Park MD Central High School, Fresno CA Raleigh-Egypt High – Memphis TN Armwood High School - Seffner, FL Victoria Memorial High School - Victoria, Tx North Tonawanda High School - North Tonawanda, NY Worthington Kilbourne High School -Columbus, OH Shawnee High - Springfield, Ohio Broadneck High School Annapolis MD Oñate High School - Las Cruces, NM Triple option football works because 1. you dont need an overwelming line 2. Speed helps but is not important(mismatches are the key) 3. creates confusion for defenses
  14. IF (BIG IF) the Falcons race to win against RHS. Then the SWD belongs to them. The rest of the SWD is in disarray. Tazewell has no confidence. Graham has little talent. Grundy is.... well Grundy(Maybe one day guys) CC may catch fire(its hard to tell who will show up on game night) Marion is unproven at this time. Most likely future for the Falcons: a second place finish in the SWD and a playoff birth.

True enough!! There are bad calls and lots of no calls every weekend. If you go into a game expecting it, then have to prepare harder and be better than both the stripes and your opponent

    Defenses

4-4 or 4-3 with a Jack LB. You only need 2 big linemen for the interior. Some speed from the Ends. And outside LB's that can rotate over to zone coverage. A 40 front keeps pressure on the offense without leaving gaps for the run game (IE 3-4, 3-3). I do like a 3-5 if, the LB's have the strength/speed combination. But you really have to have pit fighter at the nose (to draw doubles) or the d-line becomes a liability.
  17. The best offense is definitely a spread. The key is to create mismatches all over the field with motion and alignment. You don't have to have mega talent or size to be successful (BYU), and zone blocking keeps the zone running game active. Having no need for mega size or speed levels the playing ground for schools with limited resources. It would help though to have a QB that can read defenses and adjust at the line.
  18. There are some winnable games on the schedule. Most of the season depends on the injuries. Graham isn't that talented and they have no depth. If key position players get hurt early there's no way to get a grasp on the little things that are key to success. Repition is the key to victories for GHS. Practice until the plays, both O & D, are second nature, then execute them near perfect and wins will come(not many though).

In a race betwen you and Wimpy to the hamburger shack, 4.3 speed means your in the back!!!!!!

Navy runs the same offense along with Airforce and various high school teams around the country(all with some degree of success). I doubt seriously if 4.3 speed is that common.

That would be teaching the kids to give up in the face of adversity. I agree to a point about running the ball and accepting the loss, but how would that have changed the outcome of the play? If someone has malicious intentions the play call will not change the outcome.

The call was personal foul (piling on)and here is the ruling: 9-4-2c Pile onto any player who is lying on the ground. Personal Foul/15 yard Penalty Placement of the ball: 10-1-5 Enforcement of a penalty cannot take the ball more than half the distance from the enforcement spot to the team's goal. The ball is placed halfway from the spot of enforcement to the goal line when the penalty yardage prescribed is greater than half the distance to the goal. The officials were correct in the call!
  23. The A/AA Eastern Shore District is a group combination district that competes in A Region A and AA Region II of the Virginia High School League. Nandua is the only AA school in the district and competes with the schools in the AA Battlefield District, AA Bay Rivers District, and the AA Southside District of AA Region I. Their playoff chances are dictated by ratings.
  24. Thats really not a fair assesment. Everyone's had trouble moving the ball consistently on Richlands. I watched the CC/Tazewell game and my take on the game was that Tazewell never really stopped CC's offense. Graham and Tazewell seem to be on the same level concerning atheletes and football players. With the game at CC and a chance to make the playoffs, CC by 10. I think the kids will come out and play hard and everyone knows that there's a chance they will get a little "extra" effort from the stripes.
  25. CC should win this one by 10 or more. Graham still hasn't found a way over the hurdles of a somewhat dissappointing season. CC will run the ball.
