  1. America....a great place that allows freedom of choice as guaranteed by our Constitution....but, the laws of the land, also, have boundaries. God is the same way.....He allows you freedom to choose..... but He has boundaries ....it's ALL your choice. There's an old adage....never argue politics or religion, but certainly we can/should discuss it. We ALL have been given that freedom to choose by our great country and by our God.....the choice is yours. What a great country.....what a great God. No profound words from this brain .....just an innate choice within my heart.
  2. ......personally, I like the "red" kool-aid.....was always my favorite as a kid.
  3. For what it's worth....earlier today I stopped at a Steak n Shake to get a...... shake. There were no cars behind me when I got to the drive thru window. I asked the kid at the window if he was in HS....(he looked it) but said he was 23. I asked him if he was voting and he said yes....and then to my surprise....he said he was voting for McCain. The reason for my surprise????? All I've heard is how the young are leaning toward Obama. Then he surprises me even more by stating why he wouldn't vote for Obama. I mean this young man was very informed and didn't mind telling me the reasons. Now, does this mean anything .....nope.....but that's one more vote for McCain that I wasn't expecting.
  4. Heard alot/read alot about Summerville when A.J. was being "sought after" by the GA Dawgs.....a great program in SC. After his (A.J.'s) performance in their game Sat......he's gonna be a premier player for the Dawgs .....just as he was recruited to be. Also, Caleb King, RS freshman RB, a local Gwinnett kid (Greater ATL Christian) is/will be a bright spot.
  5. Thought I would lighten the "mood" a bit....no disrespect meant to either team....it must have been some game to have seen. Congrats to both on a hard fought game.
  6. ajc.com > Sports Men parachute into wrong football stadium McClatchy Newspapers Saturday, August 30, 2008 Duke officials were a bit surprised when, at 6 p.m. EDT on Saturday, about an hour before the scheduled kickoff of their game against James Madison, two men parachuted into Wallace Wade Stadium and landed at the 35-yard line with a game ball. Problem was, the Blue Devils — who were warming up on the field along with their guests from Virginia — weren’t expecting it. “All we know is, they must have missed their jump site,†a team official said. And they did — because the jump site was meant to be about eight miles away. North Carolina was scheduled to receive the game ball for its contest against McNeese State via an aerial team at about that time in Chapel Hill. According to UNC assistant athletic director for promotions Michael Beale, the plane was in the air, but the jumpers from Virginia-based Aerial Adventures opted to cancel the leap into Kenan Stadium because of a severe weather front — which would later delay both games. Evidently, when the clouds eventually opened, the pilot thought they were over the correct stadium, and the skydivers jumped — realizing only when they landed in Wallace Wade that they were in the wrong place. The two men immediately scrambled off the field with the game ball, and when UNC associate athletic director Rick Steinbacher was informed by a reporter of what had happened, he immediately called Duke officials to confirm the miscue, and offer his apologies. “In about five years, maybe this will be funny,†Steinbacher said. “Right now, I’m just glad no one was hurt.†——— © 2008, The News & Observer (Raleigh, N.C.). 7. Byrnes, SC (ranked #1 by USA Today) played at North Gwinnett (local HS for my immediate area) and lived up to their ranking. I watched the game on CSS, didn't go. Following is link, short article on game for those interested: http://www.ajc.com/highschool/content/sports/highschool/stories/2008/08/30/north_gwinnett_byrnes.html
  8. .....detecting some sexism here??????? I never heard of this candidate before today but listening to her after being introduced by McCain.....she's a breath of fresh air compared to the Washington crowd. The Obama "speak" gurus have already issued a statement demeaning her small town beginnings.....hmmmm....not a smart move. She nixed the Washington crowd by saying that Alaska would seek alternative fuel themselves .....they're building a large natural gas pipeline. I think she will surprise alot of ppl in the days to come.....I will reserve judgement. It's just like a game of football.....until you line up against each other....it's hype.
  9. It will not be Romney or Pawlenty.....word is, it is the gov. of Alaska.....a woman, Sarah Palin. Young, in her 40's....five kids....very smart....and will pull the conservative vote, also, the women vote.....but more important ....watching the morning shows.....some of the democratic pundits seem a little "worried" w/this pick....if that is whom it is. Not whom I was expecting (so glad it was not Romney, and yes, I would have loved for it to be Huckabee) but, we'll see how it all shakes out. A little side note, Jimmy Carter has totally flipped....saying, "McCain is milking his POW experience"......WHAT???? An American that was held for years as a POW....and he's milking it. The democrats better hope he goes back to Plains....and yes, I voted for Carter (and this is when I lived in VA).....a BIG mistake.
  10. I'm assuming Mance and Colobro were standing together/side by side at the game (probably talkin' bout the great concession stand food and how their golf game was progressing) since you indicated both could hear this happening "right in front" of them. They should have stopped the game right then and put those "young'uns" in timeout. Putting my psychology 101 into practice, I would say there is more to this than the foul language issues.
  11. Wow, you lost credibility by implying that Mance and Colobro let things slide. Just as your Mom/Dad may control what you say under their roof....once you walk out that door....you're the one accountable. The fans are yelling/cheering, players are yelling out schemes or whom to cover and the coaches are listening for "foul mouthed" language....yeah, right. Mance and Colobro are premier coaches.....they're not "ugly" language enforcers.... that's up to each player to decide how they want to be perceived.
  12. The following just happened this week.....and the field is grass. http://www.gwinnettdailypost.com Tuesday, August 26, 2008 4 teens arrested in failed prank By Heather Darenberg Staff Writer Tuesday, August 26, 2008 BUFORD - Thirty-eight to zero. That's the score four seniors at Dacula High reportedly said their school will win by in Friday night's football game against Mill Creek High - and what they allegedly planned to spray paint on Mill Creek's football field. The alleged plan was interrupted Sunday when police found one of the teens asleep in the predawn hours in the back of a Volkswagen Jetta in a shopping center parking lot on Sardis Church Road in Buford, according to a Gwinnett County Police Department report. Officers woke up the teen, 17-year-old Brian Oliveira, who appeared to be intoxicated, the police report states. While officers placed Oliveira in a patrol car, three other teenagers approached from the other side of the parking lot. The trio told police they were friends with Oliveira and identified themselves as Robert Hendley, Adam Nigh and Antonio Yunker, all 17. As the police talked with the students, a couple pulled up and gave officers a videotape they said they saw the teens throw when the authorities arrived, the report states. The couple also said they saw the group get spray paint from someone in a white pick-up truck. An officer watched the video, "which showed them planning what they were going to do, sneaking out of the house, picking up Mr. Oliveira and purchasing the spray paint," the report states. The teens also admitted their plan to police, the report states. Oliveira, Hendley, Nigh and Yunker were each booked Sunday in the Gwinnett County Jail on a felony charge of conspiracy to commit interference with government property. They were all subsequently released on a $1,300 bond. The roster for Dacula's football team shows none of the four are players.

My vote is for TJ......or honorable mention anyway. Not so much for what he did on the field ...but the big battle this young man fought to get back on the field. Thank you TJ for being an inspiration for so many.....and I'm sure a motivator for your team.
  14. Noticed VT offered Jonas Houseright (Gate City) a scholly this year (was a walk-on). Is he any relations to the above?

  16. Thanks Lance for all your work on this
  17. Thanks....great memories of the game and the excitement of the crowd as we piled out onto the street w/dancing, shouting, tears of joy, and NO destructive behavior from anyone. They named the broadcast booth at the "Ted" the Skip Carey broadcast booth....very fitting.

  25. He WILL be missed. I was at the famous Sid Bream "slide"game (Pirates) when he made the call that forever will identify his legacy....."Braves win, Braves win, Braves win". Of course, I didn't hear it at the game but the 1000's of replays later. Again, he WILL be missed.... Here is a link to the AJC w/many fans writing about their memories of Skip, if you so choose to read. Some are very funny. http://www.ajc.com/blogs/content/shared-...it_his_way.html Following is an excerpt: By Tom Lea August 4, 2008 12:21 AM | Link to this One of the all-time greats. My favorite comment came shortly after Ted Turner forbid his newscasters on CNN from using the word “foreign†since his network had developed a global reach. Instead, they were to use the word “international.†Being a loyal employee of Mr. Turner… Skip was calling a Braves game when the batter called time and backed of the batter’s box, as Skip explained, because “he had an international object in his eye.â€
