  1. [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] http://scores.espn.go.com/ncf/recap?gameId=280030259 Hey it's gotta suck to have your most famous player to be in jail in the state that just stuck it to the chokies in Blacksburg. Also that was their 1st BCS win. That has got to feel great. I could talk about the idotic tech fans around here.......but you know.....I'm happy beating Oklahoma.....winning a BCS game.....again. I'll leave all that whining to you ladies who need something to cry about. [/ QUOTE ] Bruce Smith is VT's most famous player... [/ QUOTE ] Before the incident, I might agree with the two posts before me. Very debatable, even if you adhere rigidly to the definition of "player". Now, if you're not, of course that statement is NOT true. I haven't seen Bruce Smith's face plastered all over NBC/ABC/CBS/CNN/etc. lately. Yes, Bruce Smith is the NFL's all-time sack leader (though he had to play on fumes for a few years to break the late, great Reggie White's mark), but you go up to a random person, ask them who Mike Vick is, and your response will likely be: "The dogfighter? Man, he's pathetic". You won't get the same level of recognition for Bruce Smith, especially among women (more than half the population, I might add). Guaranteed. Not only is it almost irrefutable that Mike Vick is the most famous alumnus of Frank Beamer's football academy, but it is very likely (with all his media exposure) that Vick is the most famous person to have attended Virginia Tech. That's debatable, but the first is a no-brainer. [/ QUOTE ] famous - having a widespread rep, usually, of a favorable nature; well known for good or worthy reasons...SMITH visibility - degree of exposure to public notice...VICK
  2. I went about 3 months ago and listened to Mike Huckabee speak when he was just a "blip" on the radar, he is leading the "race" here in GA on the Republican side. As far as the Dems, I think it is a toss up between "Hill and O".
  3. ....reported in the AJC today that owner, Arthur Blank,is very interested in Carroll... "might be willing to give Carroll far reaching responsibilities." (They are searching for a new GM also, but, Rich McKay will remain as President for the next couple of years.) Noted that Blank could possibly meet with Carroll this weekend....if Carroll is receptive to discussions.
  4. "G"....another one of your genius moments, right on w/your assessment. Stewart did more for WVU last night than just win.....he showed all potential recruits how he, a class act, can take a reeling football team and return the focus to what it was during mid-season. This is a plus, plus as a recruiting tool.. seeing such a classy coach, the respect shown by his players and such an overwhelming determination by ALL to win this game. Stewart is the right man for the WVU program at THIS time.
  5. [ QUOTE ] the media loves USC...especially espn and corso. everytime they lose it wasnt because of the other team, but some excuse that USC could not control like injuries, weather, officiating, or luck of the irish...lol [/ QUOTE ] ...and I thought I was such a genius and was the only mortal on earth that recognized this luvfest between USC and the media(medium)....lol
  6. [ QUOTE ] Oregon is absolutely manhandling South Florida right now...without Dennis Dixon...any thoughts on this? [/ QUOTE ] The kid playing QB for Oregon, Justin Roper, played football at Buford HS, an AA school in GA , less than 10 miles from my house. Justin was the 5th string QB behind Dixon and "many"...then all the injuries happened. The Buford AA program is of legend here in the state of GA. They won the AA state finals this year beating their opponent 50-0; in the semi-finals beat their opponent 48-0. This program has several kids playing in bowl games this year...for WVU, DL, Thor Merrow; GA, WR, Mikey Henderson; also, Air Force, California, and Ball State. A, Sr. this year for Buford, Omar Hunter, has commited to Notre Dame but is rethinking that....maybe FL or USC (So. Cal)....Charlie Weis and Pete Carroll have recently been in town talking to him. This kid was not named defensive AA POY either...but did make first team.
  7. [ QUOTE ] Scored 1000th point tonight in win at Coalfield Classic. Richlands wins over Montcalm. [/ QUOTE ] Congrats young man. Hard work equates to a milestone accomplishment.
  8. [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Northview HS from Duluth GA features a player that "some" of you UVA fans might recognize...albeit the next generation....Ralph Sampson III, a 6ft-11in senior, committed to Univ. of Minnesota. [/ QUOTE ] Is that one of his kids that he didn't pay child support for??? [/ QUOTE ] Now, that I couldn't tell ya....(not been invited to any of the family gatherings..lol) but, he has been involved in the young man's life...
  9. Northview HS from Duluth GA features a player that "some" of you UVA fans might recognize...albeit the next generation....Ralph Sampson III, a 6ft-11in senior, committed to Univ. of Minnesota.
  10. Josh Niblett, head coach at Oxford High was named head coach at Hoover High. It is reported he will earn about $97,000 annually. Propst, former Hoover coach, praised the hiring of Niblett, described as a committed Christian. "I look up to a guy like Josh" said Propst, who is looking for a job out of state, "I wish I was more that way."
  11. [ QUOTE ] ....the AJC today reporting that Bob Sphire, head coach at N.Gwinnett HS in GA (local school kids in my sub-div.attend) is one of 6 candidates in contention for this job. He took N. Gwinnett this yr. to the state finals (5A) first time in 50 year school history...lost however...been w/NG program 2 years. Won 3A title at Lexington Catholic in 2005. [/ QUOTE ] Apparently Coach Sphire has changed his mind. Being reported in the Birmingham News he was withdrawing his name from consideration Thursday (this) morning...after his name became public Wed. evening. "I've got a great job. Think I want to screw that up. Once that's out in the public, I've got to evaluate what I've got here. We're doing some great things here (at N.Gwinnett)" Sphire said he was contacted about 3 wks. ago and then again Sunday. The Supt. Andy Craig in AL said Thursday (this) afternoon when informed Sphire had pulled out "you know more info than I do."
  12. ....according to reports, Hoover is to make a decision today about replacement coach....
  13. ....according to AJC report he resigned Oct. 30 but kept coaching until end of season amid allegations of players academically ineligible, forfeiture of games and this is the kicker, a second family behind the scenes though he was a married man....sounds like a storyline from the daily soap operas.... or MTV (lol).
  14. ....the AJC today reporting that Bob Sphire, head coach at N.Gwinnett HS in GA (local school kids in my sub-div.attend) is one of 6 candidates in contention for this job. He took N. Gwinnett this yr. to the state finals (5A) first time in 50 year school history...lost however...been w/NG program 2 years. Won 3A title at Lexington Catholic in 2005.
  15. [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] No time to explain....Just think about it though... [/ QUOTE ] to late to think, resignation papers have gone in to effect. rich rod is in michigan to stay. [/ QUOTE ] Or at least until he has a season in which he loses 3 games...then he'll be fired! He had a job for life at WVU...he'll get fired if he loses too many at Michigan. [/ QUOTE ] No, he'll get fired for losing to Ohio St. too many times... [/ QUOTE ] That's what it's all about..... Mr. Rod your mission....do NOT lose to OHIO ST....and do NOT schedule Appy St. again....EVER.
  16. A WVU ALUM.. wow, talk about not being able to go home again...
  17. Bobby Petrino has resigned.....may be interested in college opening. Breaking news here in ATL....not alot of details.
  18. [ QUOTE ] Did "The Fridge" save his job at Muralund by beating O'Brien's puppies 37-0??? I guess we'll have to wait until after the SmurfTurf Bowl or the Nut Bowl to find out.... [/ QUOTE ] ...speaking of nut...H. Nutt of Arkansas has resigned....rumor, possibly,he would like Ole Miss job.
  19. [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] The only thing I'm going to say about this game is simply this, talk is cheap. The game will be played and determined on the field, not at the local barber shop, this message board, or anywhere else. I won't waste my time, or anyone else's time, in posting why I think Bluefield will win or trying to convince those that believe James Monroe will win. It doesn't matter who anyone thinks will win, it'll be settled between the lines on Friday night between two well deserving teams. [/ QUOTE ] Sound like a politician there Bluefield_Rules. Good post. Best wishes to the Beavers--bring it home. If you and Danielle are traveling to Wheeling, praying for your safe travel. [/ QUOTE ] Ditto Rules....good luck to the Beavers....be safe. GO BLUES GA NADO
  20. [ QUOTE ] I agree with you on that one...He is completely amazing. I think his performance against LSU might have put him in the front. [/ QUOTE ] Agree.....he swamped the Tigers....but, it's over....Tebow has won it. I think McFadden will come in 2nd in the voting.
  21. Yes....but that will not affect the Heisman voting. FL says he'll be ready to play in the bowl game. One tough cookie....broke it in the 3rd. qtr...told the sideline he could still play.....was not his throwing hand.
  22. I'm sure blueinbama will answer that one.....
  23. It's TEBOW....finished, done, complete...
  24. [ QUOTE ] Gailey likely gone at GT...Shannon will be given at least one more season. [/ QUOTE ] ....agree...I think Shannon is the right coach for the Miami program at this time...
  25. G in the spirit of Christmas....why don't you give Cole a "get out of the doghouse free" card for the state game. After all, you can't get any closer in location than supporting the ENTIRE Blfd. team in the big game. VT took it to the Hoos yesterday....so, mellow on that ....I bet your momma would bake you some cookies and maybe, Santa will not put that piece of coal in your stocking. LOL
