According to sources, Mark Palmer will be the new coach for Patrick Henry. I spoke to several folks this weekend at the state tournament (including a school official) who confirmed this. Word is they wanted Grayson County's own Mcpherson and actually offered him the job, but he declined to take the job (guess he came to his senses). I think this is a good hire for Holston because we tend to beat Palmer teams pretty easy, heck, we tend to beat PH every year anymore. A football coach is more than a coach, in a lot of ways, he and is the pillar of the community. I think if we lose focus of that, in exchange for victories, we've lost our purpose. I hate it for the battle community but if they bring him back, just for wins, I will lose all respect for them. We need to remember how influential a football coach is and what message we are sending to the young people there.

I decline this so called award and would never accept anything from Abingdon. I once didn't mind the Falcons but after the whole scrimmage thing and you, I will always delight in your losing. Have a nice day.

I work with all county schools and I'm pretty sure Mr. Palmer has applied for every job, yet pulls his name out or doesn't get hired. I think there is more than meets the eye with him. Why is he always trying to leave St. Paul?

Holston feels the same about you; however, we did have transfer from Patrick Henry a couple of years ago that seem to work out just fine for us. I think the name Eric Medford may come to mind? LOL Is there anyone else interested in the job rather than Palmer?

Sources in the county say that job will come open later, its just a matter of time, due to the legal process that has to play out.

Well, I read that we lost last night so that puts us at 2-9 for the year. hopefully our boys can get one tonight. I'd like to see things get better and turned around for our male athletics this year. Good luck to the Cavs, I'm pulling for you.

Gentlemen I said I hope you guys win but unfortunately I have my doubts. I'm sure you have a fine team, I just think the quality of football from that area is better in terms of the next level. I want to see Gate City and Richlands win, but I just don't see it happening. I hope I'm wrong. I just wouldn't be surprised if Richlands and Gate City lost. I just think there maybe better talent from those areas. I could be wrong, but not likely.

I wish all swva teams good luck. I thought Clintwood would beat East Mont, especially in those conditions, but give credit to them for getting a big win. I think Gate City and Richlands maybe in trouble. I hope I'm wrong and would love to see them both win to represent swva football well. I just have my doubts.

I think the problem over there is a little bit of both administration and coaching. I know the Principal, great guy, but I think he looks to hire big name guys who don't get the job done. Example: Gregory and Compton. Look, PH is our rival, but I hate to see a program so far gone. Compton is not the answer. I don't know who is, but look for another "big name" hire who will also fail. I know this because I know the administration. Sorry Keith but your track record isn't great when it comes to coaches. Ps: Does anyone know when All District comes out?

You are correct my friend. Damascus, like most small towns today, is trying to rebuild itself and form an identity. We are currently participating in restoration projects for tourism.

I realize that our season didn't go as well as the previous 3 years, but I think we did manage to have some players do well. Our Defensive Line wasn't bad, one in particular. Not going to mention any names but I think you would have a hard time blocking him. I disagree, I think you are divided and the good book says that a kingdom that is divided will not stand! Ps: We did managed to do well for our county the last 3 years in the playoffs. I think we came back with 2 championships. Good luck topping that Abingdon. :)

This is a true tragic story and very serious subject. Tragic for the students, athletes, administration, and assistant coaches at John Battle. I hate it because they were heading in the right direction. We all know there has been a history of unruling conduct at that school and I'm disappointed to see something of this caliber return again. I don't think it truly reflects the fine coaches, teachers, and aministrators who are dedicated to the success of that athletic program. I do however have zero tolerance for the behavior being investigated in this case. I just wanted to say as a fellow Washington County Native, that I support the efforts to get to the truth. I know that proper action should and will be taken. My prayers are with the Trojans and I wish you well.

All do respect here, Mr. Witten has done this to himself. Even if he hasn't participated in a sexual act, he should know better than to communicate with a minor via cell phone. In addition, a coach or authorative figure should never put themselves in a position to be accused of such nonsense. No, my friend, the one person who ruined his name would be Mr. Witten himself. I am apalled that you would defend such nonsense. This is why young women and/or men don't report misconduct or abuse. They get ridiculed by authorative figures like you.
