I'm sorry guys, but I have had some health issues lately with my heart and I haven't been able to sit here and go over all the threads like I use to. I missed something about Pinkston not being on the team. Could somebody please fill me in. Thanks !

I have a lot of respect for both programs ! They are both at or near the top every year. Great coaching and fan support ! But I think this year the best team is from GC and I think they will win 35 to 14. Good luck to both teams and I hope that neither has any injuries !

As a Richlands fan, when we play CC I don't like em.....LOL ! But in the playoff's, I hope you kick some Magna Vista a$$ !! I know some don't, but I always pull for the southwest district teams and any team from our area ! Good luck CC, do us proud !

Thanks Lance, that's a good post and I couldn't say it better ! It's the same in any sport, whoever is on or near the top and has been doing a lot of winning it seems like everybody else wants to tear them down. It's not gonna stop as long as Richlands is winning. But I guess you have to expect it. The people that are close to the program know the truth and everybody else is just guessing and spreading rumors. Some are just jealousy. People will believe what they want to believe and will never hear anything except what they want to hear. The person that said we use to think the same thing about Salem is right ! I know a lot of fans that use to say the same thing ( including me ! ). Maybe we were right and maybe not, all I know that I wish I had never said anything about it now without knowing more about their program and what was going on there. I was wrong to say those things because I didn't know from first hand weather it was true or not. I just wanted a reason why they were so much better than most everybody else. Maybe they were recruiting or maybe the kids just want to play there because of the winning they were and are doing and the facilities they have, I don't know. I'm 50 now and I guess it took that long to learn to think before I write or speak. I just hope that we keep winning and let the ones who want to take their shots at us take them. I know that I will probably be attacked for something I said in this post and that's ok because everyone has a right to express how they feel, I'm just expressing how I feel.

Classy post Lance, and I wish Grundy all the luck in the world in the playoffs. They really played hard and gave us a scare in the first half. And for the other poster that brought up the Johnsons.......again.......your right, they do help us win games and we are proud to call them Richlands kids, just like the rest of the team ! But make no mistake about it. Richlands didn't just start to win this year ! Mance and his staff is our biggest asset here, and without the Johnsons we would still be winning ballgames, just not in the same way. We probably would not be scoring as many points but Mance would find away. We do have other very good players on our team. We may have lost a game or 2 more but would still probably win the district. and go to the playoffs.........just look at the past ! Anyway, everyone might as well get use to the Johnsons, they are going to be at Richlands for the next few years !

Poor little thing........just have to look for excuses don't we ? Mance can't help it because kids & their parents want to come to Richlands and play for a winner. Better coaching, and facilities, and great fan and town support. I'm not going to apologize for it, and I know Mance and most others here in town are not going to apologize because they want to come play for a very good football program. Maybe you need to focus on you own program and get it better so your players doesn't want to come to Richlands ! Anyway, who even knows if those kids are coming to Richlands............so far it's just a rumor.

Grundy.....without doubt for me. Nice to see them back and competitive again ! :)

I have also heard that Jack doesn't want to play QB, but Jack is a good guy and will play QB if the team needs him there. He'll also be a very good QB. Good arm, can run and knows football and the system. I have also heard the same rumors about Hess from people I know here in town, but that's exactly what they are......rumors. There's no since worrying about a rumor like that this time of the year. It's mostly just a lot of talk and no one will know if it's true until next year or if the Hess family moves to Richlands, until then, he is a falcon.

I'm glad to see Grundy do well this year and I wish them the best in the playoffs but, with that said, the game is at Ernie Hicks and Grundy hasn't beaten Richlands in 9 or 10 years. They lost to Abingdon, and I just don't think they have the speed to stay with Richlands on the turf. I know they have a great running back, but they just don't have the team speed to stay with our backs and our receivers. Our D speed is good also and I just don't think that they can keep having sustained drives that you need to keep the ball away from the blues. But I still want to congratulate Grundy on a good year and their first district win last week !

Just get over it ! We didn't recruit them any more than Tazewell recruited the pocy kids or any other school that gets transfers. ( no I dont begrudge the poky kids going to the bulldogs. That was their right to go anywhere they wanted ). They wanted to come play for a coach that is a winner, and a town ( and yes I know all towns show support for their team ) that shows a lot of support for their team and some of the best football facilities in Virginia. If they want to play here, I guess we're suppose to say no........yea right, like you would have told them you didn't want them at your school. They moved here because it was closer to their dads work and because they wanted to play here........and I hope more kids want to come and play here, and there probably will be ! As long as Richlands is winning the way they are and have the coaching that they have, players will want to play here. They know you have a chance to win the district and get to the playoffs every year. They also have a good shot at getting a good look from some colleges. Richlands has a lot of kids playing football in college. Maybe not all are playing in D1 but are playing somewhere.

I think your right as far as next year goes. They only have 2 Sr starters this year and several sophs. But, you never know. After next year, that's hard to say, that's still pretty far in the future and you never know how much other teams improve, injuries, transfers and so on. But they should be at least be able to compete for the district over the next 2 or 3 years.

Congrats big blue on your 6th district championship in a row !! Now 1 more regular season game left and then it's on to the playoffs !! Good Job Guys !!

Tough game up there. CC always seems to give us a tough game. Good luck in the playoffs and represent the District well.......I know you will. They seem to have a lot of fight and heart in em.

Good post ! That's why I've said it doesn't matter who plays for Richlands, they will be winners as long as this coaching staff is there. These kids will do whatever it takes to win ! The kids love to play for him and he puts them in situations to win. Time and time again the coaching staff has made adjustments in the 2nd half to win the ballgame. Of course it helps to have talent, and this team has that, but also has heart, and that starts at the top ! Congrats Blues on your 6th Southwest district championship !! We are all proud of you !!

I have to agree with you on this. I was at the Richlands game and the G-men played with a lot of heart ! I know I was nervous at half time. Yea, they gave up 29 points to a better team ( no disrespect intended ) in the 3rd quarter, but they were still playing hard in the 4th. I was impressed with how hard they were still hitting and playing in the 4th, when they could have given up. I thought the kids from Graham show a lot of heart in that game and they will beat the falcons on Friday imho.

Your exactly right ! Execution is everything at any level of football ! The team that makes the least amount of mistakes and doesn't turn the ball over will usually win 90% of the time. I think it's gonna be a great game and fun to watch, as it's all on the line for the district ! I just hope that both teams come out of the game without any injuries ! This is a bad time of the year to have any of those, although i don't think any time is good for injuries... Good luck to your guys, although I hope we win of course, just as I know you hope CC wins ! It should be fun !

It's like SMURF said, it's all about the coaching. We have always had good athletes just as Tazewell has over the years. The difference has been Mance and staff over the last 5 to 7 years. He has done a terrific job of building a football program here. They start working as soon as the season is over on next year. The kids have bought into his vision and want to play for him. That's half the battle. I'm not saying that Wyatt is not a good coach, I don't know anything about him, he may be a very good coach I don't know, that's for the Tazewell fans to debate. I do know that Tazewell has a lot of good hard working kids and I do believe that Mance has out coached him over the last few years, along with several others in Southwest Virginia.

This is gonna be a very good football game ! I think that Richlands wins if they do not turn the ball over and can keep CC to 3 & outs. If CC is able to run the ball like they want to and keep it away from the blues O, it could be a very close game. It's tough to stop Richlands, they have been very balanced on O over the last several games. The running game has been very good with Devone & Cody, Austin and Parnell all running the ball well right now, and Cody is getting more people involved in the passing game. It seems like we always have a tough game up there though. CC is very good at home. Richlands 28 CC 14

Yea, if I'm not mistaken, that is a safety. I have never seen that happen, but did see it come close to happening when I played in Maryland. I played my freshman and soph. year at Aberdeen High, and we were playing a team from Edgewood my soph year and the wind was like 40mph. The punter from Edgewood punted the ball and it went strait up and the wind blew it backwards about 5 yards and we down the ball on the 2.....LOL. A couple of more rolls and it's a safety.
