  1. We have a new stadium since you were here last time. We have the new turf, as good as I have seen anywhere. Thanks for the vote of confidence. I do think we will win but it will be a good game. I am glad we have the home field this year as there's no place like home.
  2. Thanks SALEMFOOTBALL, he looks like a great player. He reminds me of Overton on Richlands. Actually the team runs an offense like ours as well. They are spread and look like they have several options on every play. This is just a clip to highlight this player but they do look simular to us except for the line. We look bigger. Only fair since they were bigger last year. They will be a good test for us and I hope we play at our best this friday night. Richlands fans --Take a look at this as it shows their line's and some of their offensive plays and defensive alignments. It will be a good place to be Friday night--Ernie Hicks stadium. Nothing like Highschool football between 2 good teams. GO BLUES
  3. I don't read that Lance is saying we are slow but we just don't see speed like the kind Cave Spring may bring to the game with us. The fact that they have an excellent quarterback who knows how to win to get the ball to that speed will present us with a test on defense like we have not seen all year. I thought we did show good speed against Martinsville, especially when Bradley got the interception and the Martinsville Quarterback had the angle on him and Bradley still beat him the the endzone (about 90 yards). Overton and Fahardo also showed they could run with the Martinsville guys as well. I know that if Austin plays this week he also will have speed for anyone we could play. We have other guys which run well. I think we will be OK but this could be a game for the ages. Could be a score of 56-49. I remember a game with Rockbridge county a few years back where they had the same elements and they scored a bunch on a Blues defense which had not given up many points that year. I do hope it is the usual 56 -13 game we have had all year but probably not. That said I pick the Blues 51-CS 38.
  4. I agree with you're post HUNTERCAVE, it will take a lot period to beat us but thats why they play the games. The only way to beat us is outscore us. Big scoring game. No one will stop our offense, maybe slow it down. Thanks for the support. BigRHSFan--- I am also looking forward to Lance answering you're question about the line play. I thought Grundy could maybe beat them up front and make it a game. I know we should also have an advantage this year up front on both sides of the ball and should pound them with it whenever possible. He said on another string that Grundy played them well up front but they used short passes to get big plays on offense. I guess they developed too quickly for the line to get pressure there. I know that our line can get to the quarterback quickly when they throw unless they scheme very well, play action, quick passes, etc. I don't know why Grundy got down so much early if they could run the ball against CS. Maybe turnovers was it, not sure.
  5. Austin missed practice and was held out. If I were Devon my big brother would not miss anymore practices. He is very valuable especially against speed. I agree we should be OK but we need to play mistake free. I know the posters on here don't have any effect on the team but they do effect our legacy beyond the Richlands area. I would like to be known as good men and women as well as having a good football team. I'm not sure who said spelling is a virtue but I thought it was pretty funny. I did not say I was perfect and make mistakes all the time and you can see that from my spelling.
  6. Hummility is a virtue that a lot of you Guys need to learn. It only makes you stronger. I think Richlands will win but it only hurts our team to blow so much smoke up their A$$ and completely discount the defending Region 4 champs. I hope you're egos don't effect our team and their quest for a state Title. A true sportsman just plays the game and is humble in a win and congratulatory in a loss.
  7. I agree that playing Martinsville was a huge asset to us for the Cave Spring game. You can't get ready for speed unless you see it. Our offense will be fine against anyone but our defense just does not play fast teams enough to be cocky about it. We have fast players but not everywhere. I hope we get the early breakdowns defensively we had corrected. I think we can trust Lance about the assesment of Cave Spring. He's only doing us a favor to help our players be ready for a real test. I think we will win but it will not be easy. If nothing else just RUN THEM OVER AND MAKE THEM LIKE IT. Our offensive line needs to come out to punish them up front, and show them what corn fed southwest virginia boys are all about. They had the senior laden O-line last year and our guys were young but this year its reversed.
  8. Thanks Lance. They just ran it down our throat last year with the quaterback and nothing we could do about it. He would always get that extra yard or two when it seemed he was stopped. I was worried about their speed since we don't see much around here and not really anyway to prepare for it. I hoped grundy could just run the ball enough to keep thier offensive possessions to a minimum. I had read about them and it appeared that they did not have much size up front but I also read that Martinsville did not and they were big up front. It sounded like you guys made a couple of mistakes early and got going in wrong direction. I'm sure they will give us all we want and then some. I hope that everybody on our team realizes how good they are based on the score with you guy's if they did not already realize it.
  9. I agree wholeheartedly. There's no way you can come up with anything bad to say about the Martinsville band unless you are full of ENVY. They probably did not realize that the moment of silence after the National anthem was so long at Richlands. It is not that long everywhere else. I like how our anouncer gives the proper credence to the National Anthem and moment silence afterwards for Christians to pray. It is a shame we can't pray out loud like 99 % of the people there would like to do. But don't down a fantastic band which really does ENTERTAIN at the halftime show.
  10. To anybody at the Cave Spring - Grundy game last night: What did the Cave Spring line look like last night. Both sides of the ball. How did they stack up to Grundy? The score looks like they must be excellent since I thought you had a very good line. I know the Quarterback is the real deal from last year but they lost several linemen last year I thought and just wondering if they had just reloaded. Did you guys just get started bad and it snowballed or was it just too much everywhere. Lets here you're opinions of the Cave spring team. Thanks and congratulations on a great season. Give them heck next year in the BDD.
  11. I agree, It is a must see. Should be a very high scoring game between two deep teams with lots of ways to score. Lets go BLUES
  12. Bradley has been very impressive this year and should be strongly considered for this honor. He has stuck out on a team with many great players and stepped up at a critical time last night. Great players step up at critical times.
  13. Martinsville band was fantastic. They had the best horn and drum sections I have ever heard in a high school band. That said-The team was very immature and not much character displayed. A large portion of thier team reminded me of one of our players, a big bonehead at times which acts like a 2 year old with a dirty diaper. They have a good team and if they are as young as I have read then they should be very good next few years. Really quick and got some playmakers. they just need a little discipline to improve. Congratulations to both teams: Richlands for moving on to next week to face a very good Cave Spring team for a rematch of last year's game and to Martinsville for reaching the playoffs after a slow start. Next week should be a heck of a game in Richlands. If you are a football fan and do not have any urgent plans then come see what should be a great game between two good teams. I know I will be.
  14. bhokie: I don't think you read any of these posts here as no-one was whinning about anything. I also think the same about Abingdon and would have mentioned them had they been playing this week. I don't know about the other posters on here but I actually pull for Abingdon anytime they are playing any school outside of this area. I pull for the southwest area teams period. I was not asking for any pity but it was worth mentioning that a team that was going into the second round of playoffs was outnumbered in enrolement by a 2 to 1 margin. I can of figured grundy would get beat this week and thought as a suporter of the area teams it was a pertinent point. There's not anything anybody can do about this enrolement delima since more people live in the urban areas. I was just pointing out that the teams in this area just have a bigger hill to climb than most teams to reap the spoils of victory. I see enough crap on here discussed that I think this is an odd thing for you to get you're diaper in a bunch.
  15. Good post HUNTERCAVE, and I think that all of us, even sports writers look through Rose colored glasses at times. We and they can't help but let our emotions help pick the games. I think it is funny to see people on here get so exited about thier team possibly winning or loosing when the game will be played and the outcome will be set in stone very soon. I am a huge Richlands fan but I realize they COULD go home anytime with a loss. Anybody can beat anybody sometimes. The Roanoke media and even fanbase up there don't know much about us except that many of our teams are Single A and that is a fact. I guess that's what you get for living in what I believe to be the best place in the State. Less crime, less gang crap, just a bunch of rednecks living in bliss. We have problems like everyone but I will take Southwest Virginia anytime. I have been all over this country and some of the world and no better people overall than here. Just my old redneck opinion.
  16. If you win on Fridays then I think it would be stupid to change the day of the game until it is out of you're control. The players get used to playing on Friday nights and the fans already have a routine of going to games on Friday nights. When the games change to Saturday the fans and players must adapt but until it is done for them I think Richlands should just keep the Friday night games. I don't think Richlands needs any help at keeping a good fan base. If more turned out for the games than usual then nowhere to put them. Maybe other teams need help with fan turnout. Just my opinion.
  17. Its been an honor to watch Will the last few years and I wish him the best of luck for his next chapter in life. I think he exemplifies what Richlands must do to keep this year going, Just one game at a time and never overlook the next opponent. All the talent and maturity he shows and just turned 17 a couple of months ago. The sky's the limit.
  18. One game will be much closer than predicted and the other much more lopsided by my opinioin, for what its worth.
  19. I did not see the Tunstall - Grundy game but that is an odd occurance. l am glad to see Grundy is getting something by air after loosing thier starting Quaterback. They may give CS a few surprises by thier physical play up front. If Grundy can contain CS speed outside then they have a chance. The CS quarterback is the stud of this team and will just run you over if he has a chance. The defensive line must stop him at the point of attack as he will punish the linebackers and safety's if he gets started. CS also has a very good return man as well and he must be contained or he will bring back one or two. I will be pulling hard for Grundy. People can say what they want to but Grundy has a fine team for 450 students and the size of enrolement does make a big difference in depth if nothing else. I hope they are in great shape since CS will have many more subs to play. This has been a huge factor in some of the Richlands loses out at the State finals games the last few years. Thier opponents have had much more depth and just wore us down by late in the game. Good Luck Golden Wave.
  20. I have only seen these teams play Richlands this year and I don't think Richlands played as good a game against Honaker as they did versus Powell Valley. I am not sure if it was the matchup or just when we met them. PV was later on and we had gotton better. It was one of Richlands better games against PV. I think these teams are very simular but I think Honaker can pass a little better than PV and with this balance they may be able to pull the upset at PV. Close game (Honaker 27 - PV23) Good luck to both teams.
  21. I am not sure but I believe it is the choice of the home team (higher seed) which day they play. If Richlands wins against Martinsville then they will have the choice of Friday night or Saturday and they always have chosen Friday night for thier games in the past. This would include ethier Cave Spring or Grundy as the apponent. If Cave Springs wins and Richlands looses this Friday then Cave Spring would have the home field next week and choice as they are the 2 seed. I hope this is correct.
  22. A Grundy- Gate City matchup would be worth watching for sure. Both teams are physical and run the ball well. I think Grundy would hold thier on in the matchup but who knows who would win. Only speculation this year. May make for some good playoff games in years to come if Grundy keeps program at this year's level as Gate City is always good. I don't know about Grundy's plans for the wrestling team and the BDD. As pointed out earlier they will have the travel matches to keep them ready for the playoffs even if no BDD teams to compete with them. I hope Richlands and all other SWD teams will be on thier match slate. I really don't know what to think of all the old rivalries going away but change is inevitable. We all must adapt or be left behind.
  23. Richlands 55- Martinsville 13
  24. I don't have it now but if someone could just post the street address for Bogle Stadium it helps with the GPS directions. I got it last year from internet and the GPS takes you right to the stadium. Good luck Golden Wave.
  25. I am just pointing out the number discrepensies between Grundy and Cave Spring to emphasisze just what an accomplishment Grundy has done to be there and if they compete with Cave Spring, even more. I know Cave Spring outnumbers Richlands as well but not nearly as much. Richlands is always outnumbered in the State playoffs once they get out of the region and into the semi-finals or finals. Monticello had them outnumbered by arouind 500 students a couple of years back in the finals. Its just the way it is, but it still does effect the outcome for all of our Southwest area teams and is worth pointing out. All area teams are way out numbered when they go deep into the playoffs. CUDOS TO ALL SOUTHWEST AREA TEAMS WHEN THEY HAVE SUCCESS IN THE PLAYOFFS. I believe Grundy will fit well into the A size teams and the team this year would have been a force there. If they return many with Bergalow they will be a force next year. I thought they had some tough linemen and linebackers as well. This is a very good, physical football team for 450 or so students. Reminds me of some of the Clintwood teams. Very impressive.
