Beavers Rule

Great win for Bluefield tonight at home. Very entertaining game and close throughout. Neither team had more than an 8 point lead. Bluefield was lead by Kyle Harris with 14, Anthony Eades with 13, and Joe Woodrum with 12. Very balanced effort for the Beavers. Bluefield has a tough stretch ahead with Scott away on Friday and Princeton away on Saturday. Scott is ranked in the top 5 in AA in West Virginia and Princeton is a very improved team and just spanked the Beavers last week. Hopefully the Beavers will respond adn get a little revenge.

I agree, nothing against the other kids but with those two athletes, I think the Beavers could make a serious run.

I agree, if they don't let those two back, it's going to be a long year. It's a shame that two good kids aren't given a second chance. I could see it if they were trouble makers or not good students but that's not the case with either of those two. Anyone that watched that game last night who doesn't think Steptoe and Williams could be an asset to that team just doesn't know basketball. I find it hard to believe that these two are not allowed to be on a team that desperately needs them. The rest of this week will be gut check time for the Beavers with Summers County and Scott. I hope they respond in a good way. Someone needs to step up and be a leader on this team.

I don't think they are going to be joining the team. I agree that with these two, the Beavers will greatly improve their chances of going to Charleston. I also agree however that they should have came out after football. I just think that you give good kids a second chance.

Corey Clark graduated last year. I don't think Pikeview has a true big man underneath. Woodrum could present some problems for them. The games tonight have been cancelled due to the bus garage not letting buses run. They are re-scheduled for tomorrow, Saturday, night. Bluefield PV game at 6 with the Princeton Graham game to follow.

According to one of the coaches, the tourney would be played due to it being sponsered by a business. I hope it is played, but we'll see.

Bluefield 61 Graham 57. Very entertaining game. Sloppy at times but a good game to watch. Joe Woodrum is an absolute beast underneath. His first three baskets of the night were dunks. He finished with 23 points, freshman Lykel Collier had 14 and Kyle Harris had 13. Good luck to both teams the rest of the year.

Bluefield has not signed a contract with Richlands. If they did it would only be for two years, thats the only contracts that Bluefield has is for two years, they do not have 4 year deals. Its been said that after the Bluefield JV team beat Richlands, they were not interested in signing a contract, don't know how true that is, only a rumor.

Although the Broncos lost yesterday, Ansel Ponder had 11 catches for 66 yards and a total of 133 yards in kickoff returns for a total of 199 all purpose yards. Congrats Ansel and keep up the good work.

Bluefield Greenbrier East plays on Thursday September 9. From what I hear Bluefield may have found a 10th game. Still in works but its a school from Virginia and should know something by Monday August 2.

The other Ponder kid is Jordan. He is in the 7th grade this year and is going to be a very talented basketball player. The other kids from Middle School are Michael Yost, Shadeed Fitzgerald, David Edwards, and Lykell Collier all of these are in the 8th grade. All of these kids with the talented bunch in the 9th grade this year should bode very well for the future of Beaver basketball. There is another kid that is also very talented but I can't think of his name. Beaver has a very bright future on the basketball court. It will be very interesting to watch over the next few years.

Not exactly sure who is looking at him. I know that several WVIAC schools are wanting him. I also hear that VT has shown some interest and also Western Michigan asked to for game film. It is a shame that only two teams from this region go to Charleston, this is hands down the best region in AA basketball in the state. Congrats to Craig and the rest of the Beavers on an excellent season. Good luck to all seniors on their future endeavors.

This game has been rescheduled for Feb. 17

Tommy wasn't injured, he got suspended for fighting with a teammate. I hear it was over a girl. If that's the case, it's sad that two teammates would let something like that come between them. Not sure about the details of the dispute but he and Josh Neal are both suspended.

I knew it wouldn't be long until someone brought up the fact that Tommy Symns didn't play and if he had played, the outcome would have been different. The way that both teams played last night, it would not have made much of a difference in the outcome. I thought both teams were sloppy but Bluefields athleticism and depth was too much for Pikeview to overcome last night. One thing is for sure, the next two games will be great battles.

Bluefield is without a doubt in the toughest region in AA. I watched them against a good, athletic St. Albans team in a scrimmage. They looked good at times and lost at times, but it was there first scrimmage of the year. I think by the time they get there football players in basketball shape and Joe gets more used to playing with them, they will be fine. This team will have the most size that Bluefield has had in many years. I look for them to be a factor by years end and possibly a trip back to Charleston.

Craig Ponder from Bluefield has to sit out the first week due to an ankle injury he got during a pickup game at the community center. He should be ready to go by next week which is great news.

Mark Godfrey is the new AD at Pikeview he left BHS over the summer.

Scott and RCB both have dropped us from their schedule. Right now we have week 8 and 9 open next year and that is after adding Wayne. CCD has signed another two year deal with us. I had heard that Woodrow was entertaining the thought of scheduling us but after some thought, decided against it. Pikeview was asked if they would be interested and they just laughed.

The guys name is Joe and he is currently enrolled at Bluefield. He enrolled last week. Coaching is a question mark but Coach Webster is going to be an assistant this year so that will help. The kids know and respect him. He has coached many of them from the time they were old enough to play ball
