  1. To be the head coach of major sports like football that bring in a lot of money, the County prefers that you work for the school (or any school in Wash. Co.). You don't have to be a teacher, just an employee. They may actually require it for this position, but if it's only a preference, trust me they won't hire you if you don't work for them. It's a safety issue or something.
  2. I don't really know anyone who uses Vonage around here, but I have Skype and so do a lot of people I know and it works pretty good. I hardly ever use it, but a lot of my friends who use it a lot never complain. This biggest problem is just finding other people who use it to talk to.
  3. Battle has it on their schedule too. That's a lot of schools. Sounds like a good tournament.
  4. Witten is innocent until proven guilty. Jim Sacco has not been kind to Battle in the past (nor the BHC in general). They make it sound as if he's guilty before knowing everthing. In my opinion, he didn't do what people are thinking, but he didn't make things look so innocent either. Some of this goes back to August and the principal should have ended it then, before things blew up, but he didn't so he has a hand in this as well. As for the pictures and such on his phone, they might not be what people think. He was really excited about the program and probably took lots of pictures of all the events we had with the team as well as his girlfriend and her son. The article doesn't say what were on the phones, so we don't know. One or two people started all this crap by blowing it way out of proportion from the start. If he was guilty of anything, why isn't he fired and charged with something? They still have no solid proof of anything and I still think he's innocent. Unfortunately, because the world of education is so fragile today, even if he's completely innocent of everything, he still might lose his job at Battle. That's how it goes, one person can start something about a teacher or coach and even if it's all a lie, that educator's reputation is ruined. I really feel for the team because they don't deserve this. I just hope they can focus on the game Friday night. Hopefully, this will all clear up soon. Just remember, it's all mostly rumor, even if they did print an article in the paper. The BHC isn't all-knowing.
  5. You know what? I guess I'll do this anyway. I posted on the other thread that I didn't want to do it, but I'm getting kinda tired of this board anyway (actually just getting tired of the internet in general. I've got a life to live and yes that does include art. it's my major in college. Ive been graduated for a while now so no more Battle art). So what i'm saying is that if Battle loses, I'm off here. If we win (and I believe we will), there's still a chance I may leave, but that was coming soon enough. Southbound and Falconman's stupidity is kinda stinking up the air and making it hard to breathe on here anyway. Gotta worry about my health since I probably won't get any help from Obamacare anyway. But I'm sure all the stuck up rich folk in A-town wouldn't have to worry about stuff like that would they?
  6. Whoa! Wait a minute there! I'm not agreeing to any contest. I know that this will be a very competitive game and it could go either way in my mind, but in the case that we might lose, I'm not putting anything on my profile that has to do with that school! I'd rather have a signature supporting the Bearcats than the Falcons. With that said, I do believe that Battle can and will win if their minds are in the right place and they make as few mistakes as possible. We definitely have the talent, just have to get over the mental hurdle. I'm pulling for the Trojans in a close one!
  7. I just watched the video on BVU channel 3. Here's what happened (forgive me for not remembering anyone's numbers): when number 53 for Battle ran the ball back to the endzone, there were two players (one JSB and one PH) that came up to the goal line at the end of the "play". The JSB player was in front with the PH player right behind him. JSB player turned around at the goal line and the PH player ran into him (more of a bump, nothing too dramatic) and the JSB player shoved (barely) the PH player when he turned around and the two bumped into each other. Nothing too bad, nothing unsportsmanlike about that and the two went their separate ways immediately afterwards. Then as soon as they parted another Battle player came up to the PH player and hit him. They two then went to the ground fighting and the Battle players on the field at the time surrounded them. Looked as if they were trying to get them to stop, but they didn't touch anyone. That's when the entire PH sideline came in rushing and jumped all over the Battle players surrounding the fight. I saw some of the PH players actually just jump in and spear some Battle players. Then Battle's sideline came in soon after (the fight was closer to Battle's sideline, yet PH's team got there first). Now for the verdict. It was very wrong and unsportsmanlike for that second Battle player to just go up and punch the PH player. It doesn't matter if trash talking was going on or anything, it was very shameful and he should have seen that the two players were walking away from one another, no reason to intervene. But it was also very wrong for the whole PH sideline to just go running in like that and just jump all over the Battle players on the field. They should've seen that it was only two players scuffling and that the other players over there weren't getting physically involved. Both sides were to blame in this: Battle for initially starting it and PH for, well, escalating it far beyond what it was originally...a senseless fight between two players.
  8. Like I said, just a side note. I know that it doesn't have anything to do with this game. I just thought that if Abingdon was supposed to be so "sophisticated" then why can't they even beat Battle at the simple task of having their art represented on the calendar? Besides, I'm just poking fun at these two birdbrains and anyone who actually agrees with them. :p
  9. Just a little sidenote since one you mentioned it. If Abingdon is so great in all things including the arts, then why has Abingdon not had a winning cover on the Washington County schools calender since 2006? You know who has won that cover every year since then? BATTLE! It's sad that Abingdon's art program is so aweful (I've heard MANY people both from Abingdon and elsewhere say so) and they even have two art teachers in their high school. What's up with that? Makes me proud to have studied at John S. Battle High School (we may lack a little in the math department, but by god we'll whip you in art, english, music, drama and theatre, forensics, debate.......and about a load of other academics).
  10. I was worried (still am a little) about this game since Denton and possibly Booher won't be playing, but after seeing a lot of the others step up last week (and pretty much all season) I'm pretty confident. As long as our mind is in the right place and we stay pumped, we can win this one.
  11. I only know of two brawls that have happened at Battle ever (in 06 and this year). There may have been more long ago, but I've never heard of them and in both cases, the refs were mostly to blame for letting things get way out of hand, then doing nothing about it. As for the bad sportsmanship on Battle, first I've heard of it. Sure, kids on ANY team will trash talk and get an occasional punch or shove or something thrown in, but to say that Battle has the worst sportsmanship in the area? At least we have the respect to kneel when a player is injured (unlike VA High....talk about sportsmanship).
  12. I think we are just going to play Central and Volunteer. Not really sure on the others. Coach Witten of course has connections with all those area schools and probably just wants to play them. He gets really excited and dreams big, but most importantly, he can make it happen. I guess he really wants to step up the competition too. Should be interesting.
  13. Just like the brawl against Northwood in 06. But the refs blew the whistle (several times) when he went down and the announcer kept saying the play was over on the intercom. He must have just been excited though and didn't hear. I mean, how often does a young lineman like that get to do something like that? I hope this win, along with being 4-1, puts us in the right frame of mind going into Abingdon. I think we can take them this year.......of course, that's assuming that Southbound and Falconman don't get us with their "mind games" :D
  14. Battle is dropping Honaker and Castlewood and picking up Sullivan Central and Volunteer (may be dropping one or two others and picking up Elizabethton and someone else).
