This is my last post on this thread because you all obviously and intentionally missed my point. I have never ever demanded respect. All I have ever intended was to say don't disrespect kids that are doing their level best to improve a programs image..that they themselves did nothing to damage in the first place. This place is littered with sheep...just like the guy I quoted above. He reads a response from some poster that says I demanded respect and he falls in line like a sheep following a shepherd. Of course I'm not proud we lost.. I hate it. My point was, and continues to be, that people on this forum berate AHS regularly and say we are terrible. The BHC picked us to lose like 30-6 or something. Everyone berated our scrimmage play. Come on guys, you remember that, don't you? We are headed in a good direction and our talent level is on the rise. So, apparently, the measuring stick is to beat Richlands. If thats the case then EVERYBODY besides Richlands sucks, huh? So that means if a team wins every game in a season, besides Richlands, then they still suck? You guys are all over the place.

Immaturity reigns here at SWVA Sports., from both its members and admin. It just kills you guys that AHS has a decent team and Lance, I say "man up" because of idiots like this dude I quoted above. It cracks me up to see folks say things like VHS is going to be good and will kill AHS, even Bristol's own beatwriter, and then you come back..AFTER...the game and say "Well VHS sucks anyway"...whatev. We have some much better talent than what showed last night in numerous, very key, positions. Why Bowles didn't play them is a question for him to answer. But, I can tell you this, AHS will continue to surprise this season and will even win more then expected if the correct personnel is playing. I have been saying it since I joined this forum, AHS has some real talent coming up the ranks and when our coaching staff recognizes it (in other words gets their head out of their ass), then you will see it too. Guys, I know I give you all a lot of crap, and you obviously dish it out too, but I couldn't be more serious about the talent that we had standing on the sideline last night. I know for a fact that if we had a few different players on the field last night the outcome would have been different. But, at the same time, VHS might have the same problem....but historically VHS plays their best players...which is what MOST coaches do. Why ours chooses to do different is a mystery. I know I sound like I think I know everything, and I think I do know quite a bit about football, but it doesn't take a Knute Rockne to see the talent I am talking about. I am sure some will ridicule me based on this paragraph, and thats fine if it gets your rocks off to do that...but if you choose to discuss football then this would be a good place to do so.

AHS played a great ballgame compared to what most everyone on here expected...except for AHS fans. Obviously we need to work on punt blocking and get rid of some mistakes. But even with the pick 6 we would have won the game without the punt blocks. Those 2 blocks provided VHS with 9 points...or 10..can't remember if kicker missed the XP after a punt block or the pick 6. Our defense was stellar and our offense had some bright spots. Bowles' playing calling was good....his clock management at the end of the game was less than stellar. VHS didn't score at all in the second half and the D kept them from making it around the corner and filled the gaps well on that counter reverse play that they ate us up with last year. It will be interesting to see if it was our D that played lights out or if VHS' offnense was lackluster. The Bristol paper predicted a blowout by VHS...you guys on here predicited a blowout by VHS....didn't happen.....so man up and admit that AHS surprised you. Yes, I know its early season and there's alot of football left...but I think AHS has some great things to work on that will hopefully only improve their play. We didn't run the ball very effectively and that was a product of a pretty good run defense. I am anxious to see the outcome of the JSB/VHS game. That will really set the stage for the game between AHS and JSB, as far as expectations go. I hate we lost but I love the fact that our guys never quit and they shocked the hell out of their haters. Man up for those who predicted a huge loss for them tonight...admit that AHS shocked you.

I agree...I look forward to seeing the AHS/JSB game as well. If we use our talent properly then we will make a game of it...otherwise, JSB ends the streak.

Just hired another coach. He may turn out to be a great coach but its hard to come in this late and get on the same page. Holding out judgment until fair chance is given. I think he's waiting approval from board and background check to be completed.

Guys I completely agree. Where I went to high school we had a HUGE homecoming parade and the team was supported greatly. It aggravates me to no end how Abingdon does zilch for the high school team. I wonder if we start winning again if the town will show more support or not. It should support it more already but maybe if we have a decent season the support/recognition will return. I would LOVE to find out. Our admin at AHS is terrible with stuff like this...along with most everything else. Trust me, those of us that care don't like the lack of supprt/recognition either.

The point here is that for some reason a large number of people on this board have some gripe against Abingdon. I don't understand it. I didn't grow up here and therefore I have no preconceived notions against any other teams...because...are you ready for this....because they are HIGH SCHOOLS. I hope every kid out there has a great season. I obviously am going to pull for AHS...but if other teams are subpar then beating them means nothing. Having said that, AHS has been subpar for the past few years and people still act like beating them is like winning the super bowl. Says A LOT for AHS and very very little for the team that wins. BTW, no comment on the QB situation other than to say, not all things are what they seem. As for the comment about being the parents of the 2 kids that post here....I seriously have no idea who they are. But the fact that they get you guys all worked up absolutely cracks me up. 2 high school kids besting grown men intellectually. What they say is mostly drivel...and yet you bozo's bite every.freaking.time. Classic. Then when I post something that calls you out for hiding behind a computer screen in your mommys basement you go for the "you make no sense..blah blah blah"....what? Man up or shut up. Peace out.

The more I think about this post the more I realize the idiocy on here. You do realize that Steve Young, Hall of Fame Quarterback for the 49ers, is also an attorney don't you? How'd that happen? The soccer comment was also stupid due only to the fact that the second most valuable sports team in the world is a pro soccer team. Dudes bring in some coin. And band offers some kids an avenue of expression....and most schools have a band (except apparently Clintwood...they don't have enough lawyers in town to booster a band).

Here's my gripe Lance. Of all the responders to this thread, the only one you asked about the band was Abingdon. So you can say it was a "serious" question all you want. But the truth of the matter is that you have some sort of gripe against Abingdon. You can go and say that you were trying to make a point about the number of kids in the school in relation to the number of kids in the band vs football team. But, again, why only bring that point up with Abingdon? You hide behind the cloak of "it was a serious question...why get defensive?" only when you are called out and made to look like a fool by Falcon. We know that recent history has been ugly here but we also know that there are some GREAT kids moving up the ranks that are doing their level best to change the fate of AHS. I would love to say something like "we will surprise a lot of folks this year" but I know that statement would get ridiculed by some of the folks on here. But, even worse, if we do what I think we will this year, there is no way any of the AHS haters will say positive things about the program. The ones that need to man up aren't the AHS folks...its the ones that throw jabs in an effort to get "e-cred" and garner some sort of pretend respect from people they don't even know. What's the value in that?

Abingdon, under the current staff, had run the spread O until last year. They switched to a base pro set last year. They base their D in a 5-0. I could go on for hours about what they SHOULD do...but you didn't ask that so I won't.

All joking aside, where does the wine/cheese thing come from? Remember, I didn't grow up here and didn't attend AHS. Is this an old thing or something that evolved from tweedledee and tweedledumb?

I agree with you...Va High will be "one to watch" this year. I think they have a good season ahead of them based on last year.

Just as you love Abingdon, I love football. The panties getting wadded belong to a select few....and RHS folks get all torn up if you even mention "recruiting" to them....and yes, they do recruit. Yes, Abingdon football has been sub par, that is undeniable. Hence, my comment that we would love to have a coach like Mance. All of the facts remain....but the result of those facts gets misconstrued by those offended by the facts. Tweedledee and Tweedledumb do not a consensus make. Abingdon football should be a major player in SW Virginia every single year...for no less than the facts you mention (enrollment, etc). I am not denying that at all. But, don't assume that just because we haven't competed in the last few years means that we are contented with it. I have NEVER bragged about the team...the boys on it, yes....but never about the team. We truly have some great talent here....it just needs to be used properly. Can you read between those lines? And, I think I'm handling the heat in the kitchen just fine....you just can't cook worth a shit.
