  1. Richlands 35-24, Union will lead at halftime but the Blues have always been a 2nd half team & they'll pull it out in the end
  2. We played a very sloppy game, probably should've lost to be honest. Hopefully it was just opening week jitters and we'll be ready for JSB next week; we've got some unfinished business to take care of
  3. Looks like we'll be seeing some wing clipping at Gene Malcolm in a Thursday special. Opinions?
  4. Must be going for his law degree in high school
  5. Star 95 (97.7 in Richlands) will cover the GC-Richlands game I'd say, course that's just if you live in Tazewell County. Also, bluetornadofootball.com will have a live streaming broadcast on their site. For anyone interested, 980AM in Bristol will cover the Virginia High-Abingdon game Thursday night.
  6. VA High Bassett Marion Wythe Bland Burton Haysi Hazard Sullivan North Galax Honaker Rye Cove Ft Chiswell Battle Grundy Central Union Bluefield: 42 Richlands: 35
  7. Battle's the team to beat? That's adorable haha. They'll have another good year, make it back to the playoffs but they aren't getting anything past us this year & GC is still just on another level. Oh, and they're going to end that long losing streak to Abingdon with style
  8. And Carrol County only had 30 or 40 players come out, and their enrollment is about the same as Abingdon's. Shall we christen Abingdon vs CC the Apathy Bowl?
  9. Here's mine: 1. VA High (7-3, 4-0) Losses: TN High, Union, Radford 2. Gate City (6-4, 3-1) Losses: Richlands, Sullivan South, Bluefield, Harlan, VA High 3. John Battle (6-4, 2-2) Losses: VA High, JI Burton, GC, Honaker 4. Lebanon (4-6, 1-3) Losses: Honaker, Union, GC, Clintwood, VA High, Battle 5. Lee (2-8, 0-4) Losses: Union, JI Burton, Harlan, Clintwood, Battle, VA High, GC, Lebanon Okay, so I'll admit I'm biased. I'm calling for the Bearcats to pull an upset at home in the de facto district title game on Oct 12 to end Gate City's stranglehold on the Clinch Mtn (I will admit it could go either way). As several people have mentioned before, the Devils are lacking in talent this year but will certainly go to the playoffs. Also look for John Battle to make it two in a row in the postseason under coach Wright
  10. I noticed Marion had a first-place vote, assumingly from their HC. Canes will have a really good year, but there's no way they're getting past Richlands
  11. Sad to see this game end, if it does. Wonder if/who the Blues will play next year in a benefit game
  12. I get Abingdon being one of the "two birds", who's the other? Oh, and your icon picture pisses me off, that was a dirty hit on a fair catch that wasn't called during a game you stole. But I digress, this is a new year and we'll leave it all on the field come August 31. Otherwise, good luck Battle Trojans this season
  13. We're not in VBODA, we're in the USSBA, which is a national organization
  14. I love the sound of that. We've got the entire offensive live coming back but replacing Josh Jordan and Elliott Johnson won't be easy. Still, like redtiger said, give is a few years under Wheeler and I think we can make some noise
  15. Does anyone know for sure when Richlands switched to the Lightning R? I'm fairly certain it was 2005
  16. DB's band is incredible, enough to where they've actually stopped competing and now they just do exhibition performances at contests. It's like Alexander the Great, they conquered the world then sat and cried because there was nothing left to conquer
  17. Nope, they still somehow managed to keep automatic status, they just don't have a lock in to any particular bowl
  18. I know, me too XD. But I'll admit you all have a pretty good band as well, and it seems the best fan base in Washington County
  19. Last time we webby to a contest with Battle in it: Appalachian Band Classic 2010, VHS score: 87, Battle: 83. I rest my case
  20. Since some people seem to be confused about the BCS bowl tie-ins, here's a cheat sheet: National Championship: #1 vs #2 Rose: Big 10 vs Pac 12 Sugar: SEC vs At-Large Orange: ACC vs At-Large Fiesta: Big 12 vs At-Large The Big East Champion is considered an At-Large team
  21. Alright, time for a little band rant. RHS and Graham both have good bands, but they're not quite as good as the program we have at VHS. Whereas most bands around here compete against schools in our area & relatively small schools, we go to contests and compete against schools two or the times our size..and win. The past two years we've been USSBA Southern States Champions, including schools from VA, TN, MS, AL, NC, SC, and GA. So maybe I'm making a big deal out of this but as a proud member of the best band between Kingsport and Bassett, I wish we'd get acknowledged for it. If you've never seen our band, I implore you to do so, even though this year we're noticeably smaller than these past few years. That is all
