  1. Abingdon has the talent to hang with most anyone. But, our current offensive set up is not going to score very much. We have some good wide outs but our QB makes poor decisions and honestly does not throw very well. We have a couple of good backs that are not used according to their strengths. If we had the right people in the right spots and our coach wasn't quite so dogmatic about the offense, we could be tough. Defensively,we are pretty sound in the middle. Outside is questionable. As bad as I hate to say it, Battle wins this game by 2 TDs.
  2. Bigrhsfan, you seem like a straight up guy. Don't know what kind of issues you are having, but you will be in my prayers. Please don't let these guys get to you. To everyone else, please don't let these two be the face of Abingdon or Abingdon football. We have enough to work on as it is.
  3. BigO I am in full agreement. As a matter of fact if he and a couple more were used to their full potential, we would probably be 1-0 with a much brighter future.
  4. You know what? You're right, Grundy is a good place. So is Marion, Damascus, Richlands etc. Abingdon is a good place also. I realize there are some snarky people here, but all in all its still good. I was raised in south Mississippi so I understand that life is a road and i hope my road ends here. I know that we have had a very lackluster football program. We can't make a wholesale change so our boys are trying to fix it from the inside out. They are working hard, harder than I have seen an Abingdon team work in years. I pray that it pays dividends, either in wins or in life. Sorry, the Grundy crack was Wrong.
  5. I'm sure you do, and I'm sure you all agree Grundy is a good place to be "from".
  6. Also, I think you "blend" really well already.
  7. I stand corrected. I just thought if you were, we could have an intellectually honest discussion sbout what we saw.
  8. This is exactly what we are working on, much to the chagrin of many. I would like to wave a wand and make it happen, but you know it doesent happen that way. We have a group of young men on this team that are going above and beyond to effect change. Will it work? I pray that it does. At least we are making a legitimate grass roots effort to be a good football team and maybe get the community behind them.
  9. You know what Lance? I haven't paid alot of attention to the band. This is a sports site( yours) and I was answering a question about high school football. You know I have heard all the gigs against Abingdon football and most of them I agree with. We have a group of kids and parents that would like to throw off all of the old sterotypes and become a respected and competitive program. These young men are working their tails off, and have been all summer. Much of it on their own. I realize its going to be hard to get a modicum of respect on this board until we start competing with quality programs, ( Especially with Falconman and Southbound running their jib) but we are legitimately trying.
  10. Abingdon has 55 out. The most athleticism I have seen on a Falcon squad in many years.
  11. Big O, I am in agreement on your post. When I moved up here, I heard all the Abingdon stories. They are all true and more.
  12. RICHLANDS has a team pastor. What is his name?
  13. District tourney will be hosted at Abingdon.
  14. Lasley might be a decent coach (basketball) but he is an ineffective AD. He is part and parcel of our weak football program.
  15. Big O is right. If we can get the fiasco that we call a coaching staff straightened out, we will have the athletes to compete. We have 7 or 8 freshmen that would start on most varsity teams. For whatever reason we refuse to put the best 11 on the field. It is a shame to be one of the largest schools south of Roanoke and not be at least competitive. Maybe one day.
  16. Please don't take these guys as the Abingdon norm. Most of us want to see our program flourish as they should. Being one of the biggest schools south of Roanoke, it's sad that we aren't great at football. It seams that mediocrity has been acceptible for so long that it has became the norm. Some of us would like to change that.
  17. Specifically, what is the issue with the league? It has been my experience that it is a great youth football league.
  18. Where do you find roster for this game? Thanks.
  19. We have put together a 14U travel/tournament team for the upcoming tourney season. If there are any other teams in the area that anyone knows of please PM me a contact number or email. We are willing to travel or we have an excellent facility in which to play. Thanks.
