If this is his 2nd DUI charge then he should not be allowed to coach a full year. There is no need to lecture on how dangerous and irresponsible it is. Once he has served the one year suspension he would be allowed to continue all coaching duties at John Battle. Coaching is a privilege and without punishment how does this look to our young people? With actions come consequences... The whole story...? If you were referring to his DUI charge it was in the newspaper and this wasn't long after this whole mess started in the first place. I have a problem with the DUI...but on who ever said the case was closed... that's false... it's open the individual and the family was unwilling to talk to the cops and the case will remain open and active.

This was not suppected to happen in this short of a time frame. However, other Colleges were after Brown, but Beamer was not going to allow Brown to be lost to another school. As of right now that's the only other staff change, but there is a chance of another change, but it seems like it might not happen.

I could be wrong but if abingdon wins out and cburg wins out they will be on opposite sides of the bracket both with first round bye. Magna vista and hidden valley prob being the 3rd and 4th seeds. It all just depends on the points they get from the district tourny. The region isn't mind blowing good as its been in recent years. Still some good teams just not what your use to seeing.

I don't know if anyone on here is questioning Comptons knowledge of X's and O's but his relationship with his players and people around them.

You really can not defend Compton and the coaches at Patrick Henry. It is up to the coaches to find something to motivate the players and community. Patrick Henry has a very supportive community and it's hard to not get a fire started there. There are always going to be peope to defend the coaches and some cases they deserved to be defended, but in this case not so much.

Abingdon and Carroll County are the largest schools below Pulaski. I think CC has more students? Those two schools are going to be traveling a long way to play anyone in their district. There needs to be a consolidation of the schools in all counties in this area. There are some rich histories in the schools; but our school systems are going to be bankrupted in the future. Consolidation of the schools would cut down on athletic travel expense and unnecessary spending for a 150 population school.

Abingdon beat Sullivan East 71-59? I think that was the score... good to see them recover from a heartbreaking loss to a good CC team.

According to the radio Abingdon's other big man, who had been starting the past few games, did not play but a few minutes. I wonder if he was hurt? Diaz seemed like a good player that Abingdon had a hard time slowing down in the 2nd half.

Graham has a good program and has a good team. However, their guard play is not what it was last year. They lost a lot. Abingdon's freshman put 24 on them. I have no doubt that Graham will play Abingdon well their place.

Well being in SWVA you get what’s around you. 1000 students does not mean that Abingdon has athletes walking up and down the hallways, and if you have not noticed SWVA is lacking some of them in the area (not unless you attend Richlands). I would like to see Abingdon play bigger competition. However, it's hard to shutout completely playing old rivals in your county (john battle and Patrick Henry). They have already trimmed the games down to only one instead of home and away. Also, Washington County had to fire employees and some schools are sharing vice principals, so to travel that often to Blacksburg or Christiansburg to play would be harder plus their schedule has to be open too. Abingdon last year went to Florida and played some pretty stiff competitions teams and played well against them. Abingdon had Pulaski on their schedule last year but snow and lack of time did not allow that game to happen. Gate City is a premier basketball program in the area for a few years now, so to say they are not a good team would be false. Abingdon also plays Sullivan East who I am pretty sure went to Tenn State quarters last year? I could be wrong. They play them again this year, but one of their best players in school history tore his ACL. So what I am trying to say is Abingdon plays whoever they can play and will test themselves, so stop being bitter. I have no argument for why Abingdon loses high profile games when given a chance. Nobody is bragging about Abingdon being top dogs they are just playing basketball.

Seems like the district is going to be crazy this year.
