  1. I agree that Graham has needed to drop in classification. Even in the "glory days of Carlock," Graham had a single A enrollment but elected to play up a division! I am looking forward to big things happening for the G-men and G-Girls. Congrats to Galax, Union, and Graham on their great golf seasons. Southwest Virginia does it again.
  2. Thanks for the reply. Giles would be a very good fit as well and as we all know the Spartans certainly have a program that draws a huge crowd. Also, the drive to Pearisburg can be done in less than one hour. I assume that with the exception of the rivalry games ... Bluefield, Tazewell, Richlands ... that they are most likely looking for Single A opponents. You have to admit, that this year's Graham schedule is pretty tough for a Single A school.
  3. Graham should beat Narrows and Bland County. In reference to the remaining three district opponents the G-men could possibly, and hopefully, pull an upset over Fort Chiswell. At 4-6 or 5-5 the G-Men may get into one of the last remaining playoff spots and certainly be on the road. Making the playoffs would certainly be a HUGE lift for the program and provide momentum for next year. I am really glad to see that the MED is no longer the joke of single A football this year. Although I would like to see Graham upset Grayson and Galax I find it not likely to happen. However, I wish Grayson and Galax the best of luck in order to prove that the MED is certainly no patsy in football. I read that Graham was dropping Princeton next year. Does anyone know the replacement school on the 2012 schedule? I would like to see Graham pick up Pikeview (WV), Virginia High, or Gate City. I assume they may be looking for another single A school to fill the spot. Obviously, Pikeview would make sense due to the easy travel parameters. George Wythe would also make sense for the same reason.
  4. I left a message as well. Told them I was a listener from Roanoke and left a call back number but have not received a reply as of yet. I have also been spreading the word among others via e-mail and phone calls. Everyone needs to make a call to the studio in order to voice their opinion. I, personally, do not know Mike Baker but I assume he is a nice guy just in the wrong place. However, I cannot sit through an entire broadcast listening to him. He is an embarrassment to the station, the Virginia side community, the school, and himself!
  5. Are there any old Narrows fans on here that can share in the Green Wave hey day? I traveled to Gate City one year to watch the battle between the Wave and the Devils! Gate City won that particular year but I remember EVERYONE from the town of Narrows making the long trip down to GC. It seemed as if no one was left in town (Narrows) the day of that game.
  6. I agree with you referencing the former Graham and Gate City days. I remember the slugfest at Gate City in '95. Graham held on for the win and the following two weeks the G-Men went on to upset the #2 (William Campbell 7-6) and #1 (King George 23-16) ranked teams for an unexpected state championship. The great thing was the old Graham-Gate City matches lingered on the mutual respect the two teams and schools had for each other. If we (Graham) did not win it, we wanted them (GC) to win it! I still remember the crowds that would roll into Mitchell Stadium and Legion Field hours before the game started.
  7. you said it and got it right! how quickly the fans forget!
  8. announced crowd of 7500 filled Franklin County stadium
  9. Salem field goal attempt blocked as time expires
  10. Salem 13 Franklin County 14 FINAL ... Franklin County finally beats Salem
  11. Salem 13 Franklin County 7 3rd Qtr -9:09 remaining
  12. Most likely ... Richlands will score early, and often, and by halftime there will be no doubt who wins this one. However, I just hope that Graham does more than show up. I hope the G-Men play hard and look respectable. The Graham kids are building confidence and still face a tough AA schedule before the district play begins. The Roanoke Times had Galax winning the MED, followed by Grayson County and then Graham. Obviously, everything is new to the Graham football program and I sure would like to see GHS win the district title and obtain enough points to squeeze into the new playoff system at the season's end. Making it into the playoffs this year would be HUGE for the Graham program and certainly a building block for the years to come. Graham is on the way back and I still urge the Virginia side fans to use patience. I talked to several folks from Bluefield last weekend and they were bragging on the team coming from behind to beat Tazewell. This excitement is something that I have no witnessed in the past years at GHS. It was certainly good to hear and hopefully it will continue. Good luck to the G-Men!
  13. Just what that team, school, and the community needed! Congrats to the G-Men!
