  3. Yeah, I'm a huge fan, since I was little. I didn't think it was too sarcastic, lots of people don't like Dallas, lol. I just think that it might be different if they played in the Super Bowl. I have a lot of Patriots-loving friends and we pick on each other a lot.
  4. As much as I'd love to see the Cowboys back in the Super Bowl, they'll find some way to screw it up in the playoffs (I'm predicting they'll make it that far) and it actually isn't always Romo. Lot of young guys on that team. I think Green Bay or SF will make it for the NFC (I don't keep up with the AFC much), but I don't see GB going undefeated. I say they lose at least one game before it's said and done.
  5. I hate to say it, but I do agree with you. Washington County puts a lot of stock in the music departments, as seen by the new band rooms at Abingdon and Battle. But I've got to disagree with one thing: Abingdon's band is pretty good, but they are second to a lot of schools out there....including Battle! :D
  6. I think there'd be complaints no matter what system you used (even if we went back to regions). Maybe they should just split the state into two. A state tournament for SWVA schools and one for the rest of VA.
  7. I wonder why high schools don't have bowling teams.......or kickball or dodgeball teams? I think a lot of kids would go out for something like that.
  8. I know at Battle we give our band heck during football season because many in our band (not necessarily the students, but parents and others around the program) can seem like jerks sometimes when it comes to certain situations. But at the same time we have the upmost respect for our band because of what they accomplish (just take a look at our many trophy cases lining the halls or go to a game or competition). I've seen what they go through and if they want to consider it a sport, then I will too.
  9. The coach pulled his starters after the first 2 minutes of the game and let reserves play the rest and they slacked up on defense. What else could you do? Stop the game at halftime? Replace the reserves with random kids from the bleachers? Just play with only 3 kids on the court at a time? If they'd done anything else and still won, they'd still get criticized! Why do they even play each other if they knew it'd be this bad? I think cancelling their entire season based on one preseason blowout is pretty stupid too. They'd just be punishing those kids for nothing.
  10. I'll be pulling for my Bulls (and I do really believe they can win it) but, as much as I hate to admit it, the Heat will be tough and just might go to the championship.
  11. When it gets down to the last two teams in the east and last two in the west, instead of them playing for an east championship and west championship, they crisscross which starts the state tournament (which is only two games: the state semifinal...or final four... which will be the top seeded east team playing the lower seeded west team and vice versa, and then the state championship game). Therefore, the state championship game might be 2 east teams or 2 west teams or one of each.
  12. My taste changes daily, so these might not be in the same order tomorrow... 1) Fly Me To The Moon by Frank Sinatra 2) The Cave by Mumford and Sons 3) Ain't No Rest for the Wicked by Cage the Elephant 4) Du Hast by Rammstein 5) anything bluegrass
  13. My dad went through a similar problem with his weight and didn't know what to do. In the end, the best thing that worked for him (he dropped from around 350 to 290) was staying active (he's already super active working 3+ jobs, but if you could just go for walks, hikes, jogs, runs whenever you have the time every day or just hit the treadmill), eat smaller portions (which he really didn't do noticebly, but still lost weight), and probably the most important thing, he cut out all soda and gatorade (which is as bad as soda in this respect). Just cutting out soda and gatorade without the other things and subbing it for water and sugar free drink mixes (the kind walmart has tastes like it has sugar, but doesn't) helped him drop most of his weight. I did the same and dropped sugary drinks and I've lost some weight pretty easily too.
  14. Abingdon's enrollment is still over 900 last time I checked. IMO they really are too big to drop. Lee dropped with somewhere around 800+ kids and I'd say it really only happened because a new district opened up (the CMD) and they saw enrollment dropping (I think they're pretty solid A numbers now). AHS won't get that lucky and will have to stay up, at least for a few more years.
  15. I don't think Houston should play in the NC. I don't really like the current system and would like to see some kind of playoff format, but Houston would get killed. I want to see a good, close game for the NC. Houston's schedule is just too weak. If there's a 1 or even 2 loss team out there with a MUCH stronger SOS than Houston's, then they should jump over Houston to play LSU or whoever in the NC. If Houston got to play just because they went undefeated, then next year everyone would be playing watered down schedules to go undefeated.
  16. What's everyone think about all the upsets this weekend? #2 OK St., #4 Oregon, #5 Oklahoma, #7 Clemson as well as a few other ranked teams all lost (many to unranked teams). I've also been hearing that this will put LSU, Bama, and Arkansas in the top 3 spots. Pretty crazy. About the USC/Oregon game though, I kinda expected this one. USC can play tough and I felt like this one was going to be an upset.
  17. Good lord, he looks like a high school history teacher or something, just check out that mustache and those glasses.......I think I need to take a brillo pad to my eyes now.
  18. *sigh* And just when my Bulls were getting good again. The last couple of seasons were the first time I'd watched the NBA since the last year or two of Jordan's run with the Bulls and a year or two afterwards. I was just starting to get back into it. I actually don't like watching college basketball on TV (just live in person) and I hate hockey. What to do?
  19. This is what I've been thinking (though a little less harshly, lol). Sure, the Colts suffer without Manning the same way the Pats suffered without Brady, but the last time I checked Manning was only a QB, not a lineman, DB, LB, Kicker, Punter, Corner, Safety, RB, WR, or any other position. I think the offense would be improved (maybe drastically) with Manning's leadership and ability on the field, but he has nothing to do with defense and I just can't see the Colts being 8-2 or 10-0 with him this season. Maybe 5-5 or slightly better, but that's about it IMO.

  21. He reads stuff on the CMD forum (s8.zetaboards.com/clinch_mtn_district). He even sent me an email once in response to something I said about his articles on there, lol.
  22. Poor Thomas Walker.....that'll be a long bus ride.
  23. If the one-way travel between two schools is 3.5 hours or more, the game will be played at 2:00 on Saturday. If it's less, it'll be played at 7:00 on Friday. According to the VHSL website.
  24. Battle beat Lebanon 28-12. JSB goes 6-4 on the season. First winning season and first post season appearance since 1998!!!
