  1. I've been trying to watch the news and get some info on this whole situation (though it's really hard because 3/4 of the time I tune in, it's not about Syria, but about some really random stuff that's not nearly as serious) and it seems like Britain is trying to do a lot. Don't know if they've sent military out like we have, but they've been discussing it in Parliament and with the UN. This won't be a US only venture, but you can be sure that we'll provide the most for the mission. Even if this was a US only mission, I don't think Russia would attack Saudi Arabia because it would bring the UN down on them anyway.
  2. I haven't been keeping up with all this Manziel drama. Could somebody give me a quick overview of what's going on?
  3. Don't know if I'd quote it quite like that, but I agree that we need to stop taking charge in world affairs like this and worry more about ourselves. Others need to step up to the plate and give us a break.
  4. Even thought the rest of the world hates us getting involved all the time, they really want us to do most (if not all) of the work so they don't have to. I'm sure if we just sat back and told everyone else to handle things from now on, they'd probably crap themselves.

  6. I wish we were done with all this Middle East crap, but then again, if there's a threat to our safety, then we have to deal with it and not just wait until we're attacked like 9/11. I think the whole Syria thing is a lose-lose situation for us. It doesn't matter if we get involved or not, everyone will find something to bash us about (for example: "why would the US invade Iraq, but not Syria?" or "Why would we start yet another war to kill our troops and drain our economy?"). I just hope that if we do get involved militarily, that it's more of a UN thing and that other nations (like France and Britain) will take more of the lead and give us a break.
  7. No problem. It's going to take some getting used to for most people I assume (I still have to check myself when I use the words district or conference).
  8. I could tell at the J.I. Burton scrimmage that the team just didn't have the energy that it did last year and they're going to really miss the grads from last year. The beginning of the regular season will be a good test with Battle playing Abingdon then Virginia High. EDIT: Meant to say Burton scrimmage, not Sullivan Central scrimmage.
  9. Do you mean conference foes? Because Abingdon's district foes are Richlands, Tazewell, Lebanon, and Virginia High. I know VHS is really close and I don't think Lebanon is that far a drive. Don't know exactly how far Richlands and Tazewell are though.
  10. Didn't see it posted anywhere but Fort Chiswell beat Battle in the jv matchup 14-0 and in varsity 32-15. Battle's Chapman also received a concussion per Facebook updates.
  11. Looks amazing and very fresh. I love it.
  12. http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2013/08/22/colorado-lawmaker-blames-minority-poverty-on-fried-chicken/ What the heck? This is really weird.
  13. I read this story elsewhere and whatever site I used didn't mention race either. I knew from the photo that the victim was white and the story mentioned he was an Australian exchange student, but it never once mentioned the race of the shooters or showed a photo of them (though I guess it was holding off on the shooters' photos because of their ages).
  14. Well, Battle's scrimmage today with JI Burton was a bit hard to watch. Neither team seemed to dominate the other, but looks like Battle really needs to work on the line and defense, as many predicted. I think by the time the district games roll around, we'll be tough, but right now "we need a lot of work" (last part was Coach Wright's actual words heading to the locker room). Also, #28 Seth Leonard broke his leg carrying the ball on one play. Looked pretty serious and he had to have surgery. Then, not long after that, it looked like someone in the stands may have overheated and the ambulance was called in again. Just not a good way to start out IMO. Hopefully things will be a lot more upbeat for the benefit game at Fort Chiswell next week.
  15. Not sure if this was the way you were trying it, but click the link in my post, then click "register" in the top left corner where it says "Welcome Guest". You'll have to click "agree" on the page that comes up, then start making your account on the next page. I just tried it and it seems to be working now.
  16. That's cute. I really do wish VT could beat Bama (just so I could rub it in my friends and family's faces), but it's not gonna happen.
  17. http://s8.zetaboards.com/Mountain_District/index/ Just take Clinch_ out of the url. If you had an account there before, your username and password are the same. Or are you trying to make an account?
  18. Maybe just getting more coverage since that seems to be the media's thing nowadays...push stories about things that have been happening for years, a lot more than everyone really knew about. Or it could be a little of both.
  19. I'm afraid to even ask what winter might bring this year. Seems like it's been a really weird year nature-wise. Sink holes popping up all over the place, rain all summer, and lots of animals everywhere (I've seen more deer this year than ever before, a bear, and just yesterday 39 turkey crossed the road in front of me in one place). Crazy.
  20. I haven't seen him since he was on Survivor. He used to buy truck parts off my dad and always liked talking to me and my brothers. I remember the last time I saw him, he was at my dad's work telling everyone about his time on Survivor (but mostly chatting up the secretaries, lol) and when my dad, me, and my brothers walked in he talked to us for a pretty good while....ended up not getting much done that day, lol.

  22. I usually stick with HPs. They've never given me any trouble, easy to use and upgrade, and last a long time. The best part is they're cheap (price-wise I mean). Just make sure whatever you get, have some good virus protection for it (and I don't mean one free trial after another like I've done in the past....works for a while, but not long enough).
  23. Seems like every time Battle tries an alumni game with VHS or Abingdon, they (VHS and Abingdon) don't have enough people and end up not playing. I remember last year when Battle and VHS tried to play, VHS didn't have enough and it never happened (they even tried to get my brother to play on VHS's team along with some other Battle alumni so they'd have enough).
  24. I believe Battle starts two-a-days today....so I'm hoping yes.
