As for Galax, I know Radford had a very un-Radford-like game. Still, Glenvar impressed me more. Galax has speed at every position. The scary thing about them is they were dealing with some key injuries the first four games and came out 4-0. They're healthy now and have more depth because of the injuries.
-
The amazing thing is, it was 0-0 with less than 4 minutes left in the 1st quarter, 58-0 with about 2 minutes left in the half.
-
Galax 43, Radford 0 final
-
^^^ No more calls, please. We have a winner.
-
First 2 games, nobody started both ways. Maybe 1 last week. May come in handy down the stretch against a bunch of big boys.
-
2 good ones down this way - Radford at Galax, Clintwood at Grayson.
-
Chilhowie didn't look bad. Two very good RBs. Turnovers made the final a lot worse than it could have been.
Tied 7-7 late in the first half, Grayson scored, got a turnover and scored again on last play of the half, got a turnover on the second half kick and scored on its first play of the third quarter. Heavy rain for a few minutes in the third and nobody could hang on to the ball after that. Probably eight fumbles apiece.
Grayson is very very good offensively and the defense has made amazing progress since giving up 40+ to Floyd 2 weeks ago. They have nobody going both ways which really made a difference in the second half.

Durrrr, yeah, I know. It had Thomasville whipping Mt. Airy the week before, too. Cool site, though.

A long way from the 0-17 skid they had a couple of years ago. They're starting 22 different kids, which may not last if the D doesn't come through but will help even if they have 3-4 going 2 ways. Very good O-line, 1,000 yard rusher in Rodriguez, tuff FB in Anderson. Max will do fine at qb, regardless of experience, and Mikey could be better than Harvey, even if he doesn't have the numbers. Great hands, can catch it over the middle and isn't afraid to get hit.
Big part of the Floyd score was Dorian Harris kid as much as the Grayson D. much better job in the second half.
-
What, no peckers and lips?
-
You're partly right. Carroll is slow. They are always slow. In their best years, they are slow. Slow + inexperience on the O-line = 36 to 7.
That was magnified by the fact that, 1 thru 11, Galax may have the best combination of athletic ability and experience that they've ever had.
Um, recruit? Annex east Galax?
Carroll is in exactly the same boat as last year. Rebuilding an O line. It will get there, it did last year, but they may take some lumps with their early schedule.
I truly hope Galax can stay healthy this year, especially at QB and OL, because they are looking at a very special season. Athletes out the yang, multi-year starters, excellent coaching, this could be a great year for them.
-
Hoo-wee. That'll make a turd.
-
-
Since this half of the state is all going to be in the playoffs together now, just wondering which places I need to eat before I get there, which ones I need to wait for the field grub.
-
Galax dropped down to the MED in 84.
First year of A ball they went 9-1 with seven shutouts but had a 2-point loss to Floyd and didn't make the playoffs.
Fort Chiswell was part of the old New River District, too.
-
-
Giles and Galax, Grayson and EastMont controlled scrimmages are next week, not sure of the sites. Rural Retreat usually goes to Carroll for a first scrimmage.
Carroll-Galax and Grayson-Floyd benefit games the 19th
