Funny how it ended up being the teams with the two best records are playing each other and the teams with two losses are playing each other .. just weird how it all worked out!!
The best high school football atmosphere (in Virginia) that I have personally witnessed was in Louisa County. Fire breathing metal dragon, a live Lion (team mascot), fireworks, crazy fans, t-shirt cannons, a military fly over...all this for a mid-season regular game. And they play a pretty mean brand of football.
Saw them play at Liberty several years ago.... they were in the D4 championship game i think and their fans were crrraaaazy!! I think they played after Richlands that day!! Not sure the year... they all run together.
Altavista held Galax to under 150 yards of total offense and beat Galax 56-7.
Im certainly not arguing that they arent good at all because I think we are the underdog here but wasnt the Galax/AV game early in the season? Assuming you went to that game and watched Galax some .. do you think it would have been a different game toward the end of the season. It seemed Galax got better as the year went. Was that an egg by Galax? I think of CWood getting beat by Grayson like 66-6 or something and CWood reeled off wins the rest of the season to win the State championship that year?

Being that its close to the 2500 seating i doubt they change IMO... if they did i doubt it would be a Roanoke area school .... that would make the host school travel like 2 hrs South...
I think control with the clock is a big key for honaker.if they can grind out long drives and use a lot of clock to do it would be a biggy.depends on the strength in the trenches for avista.thats hubbards type of game I think.
If thats the game plan you have to come away with points every drive and no turnovers like the Radford game IMO... achievable i think... not sure about their line play... must be dang good to have that winning streak.. Dont think they lost much from last years state title team either! Would be nice to end it for em .. im sure its alot of pressure ...lol!

They havent lost.... and it will be a tough out.. make no mistake... i have faith but it will be a tough game!! Not sure how they are defensively but you have to assume they are tough to hold Parry McCluer to 10 points with the RB they have ... didnt see how many yards he had during the game but ... i think our defense is tough... bend dont break and keep them from the "big plays" and a turnover or two wouldnt hurt! Im looking forward to seeing them and how we matchup ... Go Tigers!

The BDD has a lot to be proud of today, man it would be nice to see 2 BDD teams in Salem.........I am not even sure that is possible, but it would be great to see if it is. I haven't looked at the brackets yet to know if it is possible...lol. But would be great to see at least one though !
It is possible!! And honestly the VHSL should really want Haysi, Richlands, and Honaker all to win in the semis ... can you imagine the gate that would bring in? I hear Altavista travels well but Essex ... not so much!

Thanks, man. Skeens is one of our best defensive players, so he was missed on that side of the ball. Truth is, I don't believe a healthy Skeens and Phillips would have mattered a great deal. Maybe a closer game, sure, but the best team won beyond a shadow of a doubt.
Looking forward to the next two seasons with you guys as well! Iron sharpens iron, as they say.

The only complaint we had was about the family members officiating the game. LOL!!!!!!! Essex field is just as good as any grass field you will see this time of year. Why would last years game have any barring on this years game. SEEMS TO ME ESSEX IS ALREADY MAKING EXCUSES.
Dont mean to butt in but I dont think its the field itself... it the lack of seating for the visiting team. I knw Battle complained about in 2012.
LOL. Every team or community in SWVA has a Falconman or Southbound and I suppose Rebel Pride is Hurley's. Oh well...this Hurley guy will be cheering for the Tigers of Honaker and Haysi. BDD Pride!

I thought the game was called evenly as well and woulda thought that if we had lost. Honestly, there is NO game that you cant go back and say "they missed this call or that call." Some calls are bigger than others and i see ur point there about calls can change the MO. Honaker moved the ball on the first 3 drives and without the INT, fumble, 2nd fumble/penalty to back us up ... the score woulda been 21-0 before radford got going... those were MO changers for us for sure but we put ourself in the situation for the score to remain close, the refs didnt put us there.
My biggest gripe with the new format is the 16 teams making the playoffs in the west and east. Knock it down to 8 in the east and 8 in the west and it'd be much better imo. Go to that and it wouldn't matter if the East or West had 4-5 schools difference in number cuz everybody and their grandma wouldn't be getting in to begin with. Besides, when there were regions, usually there were only 4 per division per region getting in anyways...2 regions combined is a half...so common sense says to set the number at 8.
I agree to some degree with you on the 16 being too many but ask Waynesboro what they feel about it .. they beat #1Hidden Valley and then knocked off Broadway this weekend ... a 16 moving to round 3 ...
