  1. I agree. I referee a lot of jv games around this area so I see players as they come up but I also get to see coaches interaction with players. Even head coaches "coaching" the jv coaches during games. Mark Dixon is a teacher of football and loves teaching football, even to his assistant coaches. He also played for Jimmie Johnson in Miami for 6 seasons so he gets accused of "It's not my job to coach your team, if you don't like me scoring, coach your defense" theory. Coach Dixon understands that players need to trust the man next to them so he playes a lot of backups beside starters which also builds tremendous depth, which Galax has.

    Top 5 Qbs

Gotta keep Max Rogers in mind on this one. Kid is only a sophomore and is special. He makes that offense work. Grayson would not be nearly as good a team without him.
  3. Congrats! I used to work for an Architectural and Engineering Firm that has a very successful office in Raleigh before moving back to my wife's hometown of Galax. It is a great place to live and to raise children. It is also a great place for high school sports. There is a lot of talent in that area. Marriage is what you make of it, enjoy!
  4. I am not trying to get anything going on here but this is just not true. The jv RB for Galax had over 150 yards rushing against Fort. THat is just one example of several I could bring up just based on the box score.

  6. I don't have all the scores yet from Heritage Oaks Golf Club in Harrisonburg but what I have is as follows... 294 - Galax 306 - Union 309 - Graham 310 - William Monroe 311 - Appomattox John Bryant of Galax shot an opening round 66 and is tied for first. Matthew Downey, Eddie Hanks, John Alouf, Ben Hill and Travis Cockerham are a special group of seniors for Galax. This is their forth consecutive state tournament appearance and they have brought home gold as freshmen and juniors.
  7. Jacob Parnell is the MLB. I grew up and played sports with his dad. He is a spark plug type player, everyone else's play is elevated by him being on the field. He will be impossible to replace.
  8. Maybe more hard lesson learned than revenge. Galax quickly went up 14-0 in the first quarter last year and celebrated a little early and lost 26-21.
  9. I can't find a digital copy of the preseason football section in the Galax Gazette. I will try to find my hard copy and attach a pdf.
  10. This group has been together since 3rd grade and everyone in this community has known it was a special group. They have been champions at every level and at multiple sports. Pack, Parsons, George, Vaughan and Fisher were all contributing members of the state championship basketball team last year. A lot of credit has to go to head coach Mark Dixon for changing the culture here beginning 3 years ago. Galax has always had a ton of talent but no direction and poor attitudes held them back. That has all changed across the board and not just football wise.
  11. The best FOOTBALL PLAYER in the MED might be Frankie Shalabie. He is a BEAST and will play at the next level. He may not have a large stat line but I guarantee opposing coaches watching film want to know where he is at all times. Lawrence Parsons is a great athlete and is 6'-6" tall and weighs 220 pounds. Austin Pack is a very good QB and team leader. Jordan Vaughan is being recruited by several 1-AA schools as a TB. He has close to 1,000 yards through 6 games. Jacob FIsher is a spark plug, not very big but packs a load. Kenley Adams and Darius Brown are those players that all coaches talk about for 15 years, do everything ask of them and it is usually the nasty stuff that gets no attention.
  12. Craig Worrell of the Galax Gazette did a mock of this years playoff format on last years standings at the end of the regular season. It was interesting to see how different it would have played out. If I can find it online, I will post it here.
  13. Freeze is the way it is pronounced. Fries is located along route 94 about halfway between Independence and Fort Chiswell on the New River.
  14. Grayson was formed from the merging of Fries and Independence in 1988 and have always been group A.
  15. I would love to be at the game at Graham next Friday night but I will be "suffering" in the Bahamas.
  16. Galax 52 Fort 0 Final! Galax had 5 different players score its 7 touchdowns. Fort's special teams were horrendous. Galax averaged nearly 40 yards per return on punts and blocked another and had a 74 yard kickoff return for a touchdown to start the game.
  17. Steven Peoples goes 20 yards for another TD. Galax 52 Fort 0
  18. Steven Peoples went 86 yards off left tackle for another TD. Galax 45 Fort 0
  19. This will be the first time since Grayson formed its school in 1988 that the Galax/Grayson game has not opened MED play in early October. I am glad they made that change and I plan on being early for the game in Independence on November 4th.
  20. Austin Pack scores from 11 yards out on a naked boot. Galax 38 Fort 0
  21. ELi Brady kicks 28 yard FG to end 1st half. Galax 31 Fort 0
  22. Galax just went 89 yards in 7 plays for another TD. Galax 28 Fort 0 3:33 left in 2nd qtr
  23. Poston is going to get this all year after running the score up so badly the past 3 years with the talent they had. That talent is all gone now.
  24. Radford is off to a great start. They lead Eastern Montgomery 49-0 with four minutes left in the second quarter Poston is going to get this all year after running the score up so badly the past 3 years with the talent they had. That talent is all gone now.
  25. Fort attempted 16 passes in the 1st quarter. Galax had 5 offensive plays. This is going to be a long game. End of 1st Galax 21 Fort 0
