  1. Steve Smith hasn’t coached since Covid. He’s available if Marion wants to shoot their shot and try to draw him out of retirement!!!
  2. I disagree. JM is playing within the parameters of the VH$L rules. There is no real difference between what JM is doing and what Liberty Christian Academy is doing. The problem lies solely with VH$L!!! The lawsuit LCA won against VHSL in 2015 opened the door for what essentially amounts to legalized recruiting. I'm not a lawyer but I would imaging VHSL would have a difficult time from a legal perspective trying to reprimand one school for recruiting while being forced to allow it through the LCA court ruling.
  3. Cormany was the head basketball coach at Grayson County when I was in high school. The Cormany I remember is far too competitive in nature to quit. He's also perceptive enough to understand how important the experience of playing in a state tournament can be for the future of the kids he coaches and the community in general. Those kids learned a valuable lesson. Life isn't always fair. That doesn't mean you roll over and play dead. I'm not sure how teaching kids to quit when things get hard is worth an attempt to send a message to VH$L they aren't going to understand anyway.
  4. Alyssa didn’t hold back in her post game interviews. She told them all the refs were “absolutely awful!!!”
  5. While I agree with everything above, it fails to fully account for the constant complaint older generations make against younger generations. Kids today are often criticized for being "soft" or "lazy." But the older generations raised them to be what they are. Now, that same older generation is basing hiring practices on what those "soft" or "lazy" kids like. It's a nonsensical cycle that is spinning out of control at this point. It likely contributes to why local programs that were once traditional powers, are anything but now.
  6. I think my original post might be getting misunderstood somewhat. I'll attempt to clarify in simpler terms. Would coaches of past generations (70's, 80's, 90's) have been interviewed for open coaching positions based on what a 16 year old kid and his father wanted? I think administrators back then would have told the kid and his dad to piss off.
  7. Would any of those old-school legendary coaches have cared if the transfer portal existed back then? Most of those old-school legends could beat you with theirs or turn around and beat theirs with yours. Not to mention, they weren't being hired based on what the 16 year old QB wanted.
  8. On this board, we often discus how kids today are just different than they were in previous generations. I don't think anyone here will argue against that point. The same can be said for the adults in the room. Which is something we rarely, if ever, discuss. Could you imagine for a second, administrators interviewing Phil Robbins, Joel Hicks, Willis White, Norm Lineburg, or Robert Casto based on the whims of a 16 year old kid and his overzealous father?
  9. Several of us were gathered up last night talking about that very issue. It's a shame. He's a great young man. Governor School student. Incredibly intelligent. He will be successful in whatever he goes into. He's been All-State multiple years in track and cross country so, a dislocated kneecap will definitely hurt his chances of repeating his success in track this spring.
  10. Unfortunate for Carroll County. I heard last night, they lost their 30 PPG scorer to a season ending injury a few minutes into the district tournament championship game against Floyd. Tough way for the best season in school history to end. Edit to add; his dad confirmed a dislocated kneecap early in the 2nd quarter against Floyd in the TRD Tournament Championship game.
  11. Narrows lost every game they played against teams from tougher districts with the exception of the worst Fort Chiswell team in a generation. Narrows has to get out of the Pioneer. You can't play a dogshit schedule and be prepared to face teams that are playing a significantly tougher slate of opponents. This is not a very good Grayson team either.
  12. You’d be hard-pressed to find many two game stretches where Grayson scored 84 points this season. Jesus Narrows needs to get out of that gawd-awful Pioneer!
  13. Just looking at Region 3D boys basketball. What a gauntlet of a region to have to come out of!!! Carroll County has had the best season in school history and might not be able to beat anyone left in the region. (8) Hidden Valley 72 (9) Pulaski 51 (10) Magna Vista 73 (7) William Byrd 66 (1) Tunstall (8) Hidden Valley (4) Cave Spring (5) Lord Botetourt (3) Carroll County (6) Abingdon (2) Northside (10) Magna Vista
  14. Kaiden Swortzel is a TE at The Citadel. Rylan Swortzel (#24) is still there. They have a younger brother Gavin (#44) that is a freshman and talented as hell. The younger Swortzel is already bigger than his brothers. Floyd is a very young team but with a lot of players in that 6'-1" to 6'-5" size range. Rylan Swortzel is the only senior on the roster.
  15. Floyd is probably playing the best basketball right now in 2C. They upset Carroll County in the Three River Championship game. All in all, 2C is way down this season from top to bottom and doesn't have that elite state level team at the top either. I wouldn't expect anyone in 2C to do any damage at the state level.
  16. I think CC will struggle to get past Lord Botetourt. Abingdon could surprise someone but baring injury or illness, I think CC and LB are the class of Region 3D.
  17. https://www.maxpreps.com/va/basketball/girls/playoffs/ https://www.maxpreps.com/va/basketball/playoffs/ Edit to add; I don't know why but they placed the 2024 bracket below the 2023 bracket for the boys. You have to scroll down the page to find it.
  18. It’s a 50/50 split between the “give everybody a trophy” crowd and the VH$L wanted to profit from everyone making the playoffs.
  19. Depends on which Grayson team shows up. They lost to GW 70-18 two weeks ago. Followed that up by getting boat raced by Bland a few nights later. I wouldn’t base anything on how anyone looks against Galax. They are terrible!!!
  20. More evidence the state set-up with 6 classifications is watered down as hell. Region 1C is hot garbage outside of Auburn and GW. Parry McCluer and Narrows are decent and deserving of a playoff berth but Bath, Galax, Grayson and Eastern Montgomery are awful basketball teams and wholly undeserving of postseason play.
  21. AJ Ashworth, Caden Carico and Edwin Espinoza have all advanced to the finals for Galax today.
  22. If they are utilizing phosphorous credits, this would make sense. It would delay the start of construction but save some time on the back end along with a considerable amount of money. In a nutshell, the county would place a large tract of land in a conservation easement, meaning it could never be developed. In exchange, DEQ would significantly lighten the environmental requirements for the smaller tract of land at THS. Grayson County did this when they installed turf a couple of years ago.
  23. I just checked the DEQ Peep Portal out of curiosity. The project at Graham High School and Richlands High School does not appear anywhere on the site. Is the Graham property in Virginia? Richlands is just a turf replacement. It could potentially be exempted by DEQ. Here is a timeline of the Tazewell High School project per the DEQ Peep Portal. Plans were submitted for review on September 26 for Tazewell High School. DEQ requested additional information on October 6. Engineer response to the request on October 31. DEQ issued Technical Information Request on December 15. Engineers response to the request on January 2. DEQ issued Technical Information Request on February 6. Permits have not been issued by DEQ for work to commence at Tazewell High School!!! https://portal.deq.virginia.gov/peep-search
