  1. Statesmanship of old is all but gone. Seems the only thing that matters now is "my party, my talking points, my point of view, etc".
  2. Sixcat...you and I would probably enjoy chatting over an adult beverage. It is rare that I encounter someone with differing views who can hold a rational conversation about those differences. Maybe there is some hope for our society?
  3. Why are you trying to avoid calling yourself a left winger? If that is who you are (and your comments seem to bear that out as true), own it! I will not attempt to engage all of your comments/stances, but there is one question I must ask. There is a sitting judge who just happens to be a lesbian. For the past three years, she has refused to perform marriage ceremonies/civil services for male-female couples. That state ruled that as long as there were other options for the couples, the judge could refuse. Why is that situation in Kentucky different?
  4. Why would the Mighty Tide even need a kicker? I thought they just lined up and "ran it down" the opponents throat for TDs?!?
  5. I wanted to like Christie but I cannot get past his position on gun control and that infamous sucking up to Obama on the Jersey shore. I still think Cruz and Carson are the sharpest knives in the drawer but am no longer sure that most are ready for brutal honesty and higher intellect. Rubio is not bad but I think he may have jumped the gun by a few years...but maybe he can appeal to the youth. I saw a clip where he spoke at a college. Most there were totally against him until he explained that the government machine is the reason uber taxis had been outlawed in that particular city. The crowd turned and actually listened to him. Not bad. Bush is probably a very decent human being, a good leader, all that...but Trump hung that "low energy" tag around his neck and I doubt it can be shaken off. And supporting Common Core? From a small government guy? I have liked Walker since day one. Strong, principled guy. But just has a dry persona. I hope he can hang on until the field shrinks enough so his message can be heard and maybe a personality shows up. I doubt he would change once he got to Washington. He held his ground in the face of numerous attacks and challenges. It worked so I think he would remain steadfast. Carly would be great at the top or as VP. Can you image the media response if a male "hammers" Hillary during a debate? The "war on women" message would become the rallying cry of the left. However, Carly could/would best her on just about every category/topic. Trump is...well Trump. He has been entertaining. He has made the other candidates discuss things many would rather not engage. But at the end of the day, I just do not think I want him at the helm. We have a narcissist in the White House now and that has been just awful. IMHO, any of these candidates would be exponentially better than Hillary, Sanders, Bidden or any other of those gomers. My wife, who obviously has great taste in men:), likes Rubio/Walker/Carson. She REALLY likes Carly and suggested a Carly/Rubio ticket. The more I think of that ticket, it would be hard to beat.
  6. It was the last game of the year for many, many years. The schedules may not allow for it now, but it was better in that position, IMHO.
  7. Why would VHS drop THS? This is one of the oldest games played in southern high school football. The only change I would make is to move it back to the last game of the regular season. V-T week consists of many great activities (bonfires, snake dances; pep rallies, etc). Both sides of Bristol get involved. It is a community thing. It is not just about the game. If you do not get it, I cannot help you. Playing THS in football may not do VHS any good on the scoreboard but playing a strong team is definitely not a bad thing for the Bearcats. Maybe you would replace THS with who -- some cream puff just to get a win? Playing inferior competition is not a program builder. Yeah, THS has much larger enrollment but VHS has a winning record against them in baseball; is very respectable in basketball and most all other sports. Not that it should matter (but it does), there is no way to replace the revenue from that game. Give the proceeds to charity? Have you lost your facilities? I do not know about THS but VHS needs that money for the sports program! Doing away with the V-T game is such a terrible idea that I cannot really believe that I am even responding to such a silly idea!
  8. I think VHS is on the right path...as long as the booster/parents stay out of the coaches way!
  9. Well goodness gracious! Can I get an autograph from him? Maybe a signed game jersey?
  10. Penn State losing to Temple was somewhat of a shocker to me. PSU QB was/is highly touted as a first rounder but that performance looked more like a practice squad kind of guy.
  11. VHS HAS a good coach. However, beating THS on the gridiron has always been a tall task for the Bearcats. I think it will be close for a while then THS pulls away late. I do not usually hope that I am wrong but in this case, I hope I am wrong.
  12. Every school in the Valley charges to re-enter until the end of the 3rd quarter. As far as the comments about the police, there are always 2 sides of every story and you are hearing only one. There is usually a good reason people have interactions with law enforcement.
  13. If we could only play teams in green every week!
  14. Things return to normal after the stint in bizarro world.
  15. Allen Dershowitz called Cruz one of the, if not the, most intelligent law student he ever had. That is quite the compliment coming from a very left of center law professor. Carson's intelligence is unquestioned. I find it telling that these uber intelligent people are conservative. Regardless of who gets the nod, I hope he/she has the wherewithal to actually stand up to the left and right this ship. Reagan did it against incredible odds so there is hope!
  16. ...said the drunk before his last roll of the dice in Vegas...
  17. Seems that UVA QBs who transfer to other schools actually do quite well with their new teams. Hmm....
  18. Hence the question marks and disclaimer.
  19. I was visiting family 2 weeks ago in Bristol. As I was driving through Spring Lakes, there were a ton of "Go Bearcats" signs in yards. Actually, I noticed similar signs all over Bristol. At first, I thought they may have been left over from baseball season but after last night, maybe not! I know it was only one game (and it was Tazewell) but 52 points and 360+ passing yards but maybe, just maybe, VHS is heading in the right direction on the gridiron?!?
  20. Way back when Detroit was the minor league affiliate in Bristol, the relationship with the school system was very good. It would appear that this may no longer be the case. Unless something has changed, VHS has no control over the field use schedule...both the baseball and football field are owned by the city. Hope the Pirates game does not go extra innings!
  21. Any reference to "Bearcat Bob" in the Ashley Madison affair is strictly coincidental!
  22. I thought Rod might actually be Zirkle B. or his green eyed brother up in Stanardsville. But neither are quite this clever. There is hope. (I actually know and like Zirkle).
