Thanks, I sincerely appreciate the update. When it goes final if you could post score I would appreciate that as well. Henry probably thinks he's still playing football and Brooks won't take any of his crap...lol

Beavers jail G-Men

By BRIAN WOODSON

Bluefield Daily Telegraph

BLUEFIELD, Va.  For two quarters, Bluefield-Graham I on the hardcourt was as close as the rivalry on the football field. Then came the second half.

Dexter Moore scored 10 of his 17 points during a key second quarter run, and Bluefield outscored Graham 23-2 at one point in the second half, as the Beavers ran away from the G-Men 54-30 on Friday night at Graham Middle School

Graham (0-2), which lost by 48 on Tuesday against Pulaski County, actually led this game 7-6 after the first quarter, and a 3-pointer by Wills Murray pushed the lead to 10-6 at the 6:43 mark of the second period. A Kyle Hammond field goal and two Shawn Brooks’ free throws tied it at 10-10.

That’s when Moore took over. He converted a three-point play, hitting a field goal and free throw, and then stole a Graham and pass and dashed downcourt for a layup to highlight an 11-0 run that push Bluefield’s lead to 17-10. Moore added four more points on a drive to the hoop off a nice behind-the-back assist from Maurice Jordan and also hit a 3-pointer with two seconds left in the half, giving the Beavers (1-0) a 24-16 lead at the break.

“They played good defense at the beginning of the game, stuff that slowing us down like playing the zone,†Moore said. “We’re a running team, we’re not a halfcourt team, we’ve got to keep running the ball and push the ball up the floor.â€ÂÂ

Bluefield head coach Ernie Gilliard, who called a timeout in the second quarter that Moore credited for settling the Beavers down, wasn’t surprised by the shaky start in an intense atmosphere that saw two players ejected in the fourth quarter.

“I think just think the nature of this game, you’re talking about a community rivalry and the battle of the Bluefields,†Gilliard said. “It gives the victor of this particular game energy throughout the rest of the season so quite naturally the kids are going to be tight.â€ÂÂ

The only thing tight in the second half were the rims on Graham’s side of the court. Baskets by T.J. Carper and Robert Henry kept the margin at 28-21 with 5:14 left in the third quarter. By the time the G-Men scored again, Bluefield had built a 44-21 lead, led by Jordan, who scored nine of his 15 points during that run. Moore added another five points of his own.

“Our offense right now is definitely not where it needs to be, we’re not taking good shots,†Graham head coach Glynn Carlock, Jr. said. “I was proud of our effort for two quarters, but then we kind of let it get away from us and it was due in part to them, They out-hustled us and we took some bad shots

“We had seven turnovers in the first half and we ended with 19 turnovers in the game. That’s an improvement over 28 (against Pulaski County), but we got better tonight. We feel like we got a little better tonight and hopefully next week will be a little better for us.â€ÂÂ

Bluefield outscored Graham 30-14 in the second half, receiving six points apiece from Ansel Ponder and Brooks. Graham was led by Henry and Steve Brown with six points apiece.

“This is good momentum for us,†Moore said. “It’s the first game, a big game to start the season and we’ve got to keep moving on.

“This is a big win for us. A big crowd, a big rivalry, a big win.â€ÂÂ

" Btw, Kyle Hammond has a pretty big cheering section lol"

Well the student section is juniors for the most part. and he's a junior, and we are always cheering for dexter. Besides kyle hammond is a pretty good player. and dont take this anyway racial, but he's like the only white player on the team... plus He had 2 huge blocks in the 3rd quarter...

Eventually we put in our Junior Varsity team at the beginning of the 4th quarter

The student sections were getting out of hand, graham was yelling "Dont drop the soap" and "JailBreak" where shaun brooks just got out of a detention center... and called us imbreds.....Thats the one i really dont get, they live less then 3 minutes from us, is it like they stuck all the imbreds and put them in WV or something like that? they just needed to be smacked for that stupid remark

Then we were yelling stuff like wheres your ring at? and then when henrey missed a free throw attempt we would yell stick to football

It was bad all the way around, then henry and brooks getting into it wouldnt have been good either..
