VHSLhelper 571 Report Share Posted March 3, 2008 For you first-timers : the A/AA state tourney is this weekend at the Salem Civic Center. It's not a "combined" tourney, where you'd have 1 final champ in each wt. class, but a "combination event", like the Va. Duals - AA on the front mats and A in the back. WRESTLERS : On Thursday, mats will be available from 5:30 - 8:30 for practice. Weigh-ins are Friday at 8 a.m. with the first matches at 10 a.m. Sat. weigh-ins are at 7:30. FANS : Each day has 2 sessions. Admission is $7 per session or $21 for all 4. Session 1 is from 10-6 ish Friday : 1st round & 1st consol. round (about 1:00). Session 2 is from 6:30-11 ish : quarter-finals, then 2nd consol. round (about 9:00). Session 3 is from 9:30-4 ish Saturday : semi-finals, 2 consol. rounds and 7th, 5th & 3rd place matches. Session 4 is from 6:30-10 ish Saturday : finals & awards/trophies/medals. Tidbits : When you go in, Grundy fans go to the left, C'burg to the right. "Festival" seating - 1st come, 1st served. The arena WILL be cleared between sessions and "trash" will be gathered. Do NOT leave something behind (like a program) and expect it to be there when you return. Expect LONG lines - only 2 doors go into seating from the lobby, and last year they searched backpacks, bags and purses. NO outside food/drinks allowed in the arena area, so finish it up while in line in the lobby. (Last year, a group would leave one person behind while the rest went to eat or back to the hotel and bring him back something to eat. He'd take in 3 or 4 coats/jackets and "save" seats for his group, which would be up to 30 minutes later getting in.) Smoking is allowed outside the building (through a "side" door, so you don't HAVE to go out front and stand in line to come back in). Clothing, programs and updated brackets are sold in the front lobby (so you DO have to stand in line to come back in). Last year, if you bought a program, you got free brackets for EITHER A or AA. And if you want both, you have to pay a little extra. NO drink machines are in the seating area - it's concession stands or nothing. The lobby has (or had) a couple, but they may be turned off and/or they may offer only non-soda drinks - I've not been there in a year, so I'm not sure about this. http://www.vhsl.org/wrestling.htm for more info. http://www.salemciviccenter.com/directions.html The Carroll Co. website has the filled-in brackets available for AA, while Colonial Forge should have the A. brackets. - - - - - - - - - And the Friday morning brackets will NOT be 100% accurate if a kid fails to make weight that morning - they're printed on Thursday. --------- fixed the ticket prices

VHSLhelper 571 Author Report Share Posted March 8, 2008 Derek was tied in the middle of the 3rd period before a near-pin gave him an 11-6 win. Coty eliminated Poquoson's Cotton Crabtree in 1:48 and will face Blackburg's Austin Kennedy in the morning. At 130, Poq. eliminated a C'burg's Schafer with a 9-0 win. Evan's up shortly. VHSLhelper 571 Author Report Share Posted March 8, 2008 Simmons won his match 12-0. Jon Dot won 6-2 thanks to a takedown with :10 left. Hankins lost 6-3 in a match that was tied with :40 left. He missed his shot. Kaleb pinned Justin Overcash of B'burg in 1:33. I'll have the Owens' in a bit.
VHSLhelper 571 Author Report Share Posted March 8, 2008 Luke Rakes is eliminated. Caleb will have Eva 1st thing tomorrow. Demarco won in 1:19 (officially - actually about 1:42... the clock didn't start until WAY after the whistle). So we still have 4 + 4 alive and gained 12 points. Looks like we're about 4 back now, but they still have Cheyney & Dillon, while we still have Demarco in a bit. Dillon to come. 'Night !!. VHSLhelper 571 Author Report Share Posted March 8, 2008 Nothin's goin' my way today. runnin' late because someome forgot to leave a make-up call. press room wasn't open when I got here, so I don't have results from last night or team scores. the PA guy is on break and his replacement can't be heard over the lightst crowd noise. Derek won 11-6. Coty won in 1:48. Jon Dot lost 2-1 and will wrestle for 7th.
