GrahamPG44 11 Report Share Posted November 17, 2008 who does everyone think will be the top contenders in girls this year?
evophoto 10 Report Share Posted November 17, 2008 Carroll, Abingdon, Graham, Richlands, Tazewell, Grundy, Marion in that order... Abingdon did beat Carroll 1 out of 3 last year. Also not real sure on Tazewell, did they get any players from Poco like the boys did?

Also not real sure on Tazewell, did they get any players from Poco like the boys did? I'm pretty sure the girls from Pocy won't help Tazewell...they were getting beat by scores like 81-15 and 63-8 last season...

Also not real sure on Tazewell, did they get any players from Poco like the boys did? I would have to agree mostly but I believe Grundy will be better than sixth. They looked pretty good last year and have a lot returning. Marion has some talent, unfortunately not at the coaching position.

Lobster 20 Report Share Posted November 18, 2008 I'd say its a fair bet to pencil in the Blue Tornado in for 7th place this year.

JamesL_CcLB34 10 Report Share Posted November 21, 2008 Abingdon, Carroll, Graham, Tazewell, Marion, Grundy, Richlands. I think carroll will continue to win the district and also abingdon's best player from last year is now going to oak hill am i right? if so that gives abingdon less of a chance to make a run at it although i think they still could

FatBoy 10 Report Share Posted November 23, 2008 I say the Tornados should get the 7th grade girls coach and let him coach on the varsity level . He is beating everyone by 30 to 40 points.
ccsports9 10 Report Share Posted November 24, 2008 i think the coach has nothing to do with it #12 for the girls is amazing she could easily play at the high school level and shes only in 7th grade

Dudley Dawson 10 Report Share Posted November 27, 2008 Don't underestimate the schooling of Phillips, fromer all time leading scorer at RHS and all american at BC. He'll get the Lady Blues back on the scene like he did back in the mid to late 90's.
realtrueblue 10 Report Share Posted November 28, 2008 I understand the lady blues should be pretty good this year with all that off-season work, aau basketball and all the camps the girls attended. It is the year of the MOOSE! He has developed the talent that he has on his team this year.
HurricaneWarning 212 Report Share Posted November 28, 2008 On Tuesday night, Marion beat Holston 55-29 and John Battle beat Abingdon 38-35. This was the first game of the regular season.
8ball 10 Report Share Posted November 28, 2008 I was in Grundy this week and spoke with some girl's bball parents -- they said they are hopeful of a good season, but don't feel confident. As for Richlands 7th grade -- they are good -- but several kids are hold backs -- they also play alot of AAU ball -- I like Fred and think he does a good job, but this team would be doing well with almost any coach -- I wonder how long this will last -- kids get tired when everything is centered around one or two players -- If you really want to see a good female athlete -- check out Grundy's middle school team -- they have a girl #20 who is a true 6th grader and she is really good -- she handles the ball well and can shoot the lights out! ccsports9 10 Report Share Posted December 1, 2008 i haven't seen many girls middle school games this year but that #12 for richlands was amazing i would really like to see number 20 for grundy play though she sounds good
HurricaneWarning 212 Report Share Posted December 3, 2008 I watched Chilhowie beat the Marion girls 58-29 tonight. We have the worst girls coach in the state. Who in their right mind would bench their best players most of the game for making silly mistakes. She is horrible as a coach!
blade 11 Report Share Posted December 6, 2008 as posted in an earlier thread that she was a hold back, I got some info to pass along. She is the true age of a seventh grader. 13 to be exact. she held back in 5th grade but started school as a 4yr old. anyways it dont matter football players do it all the time. pioneers_44 10 Report Share Posted December 7, 2008 Well all I can say is that Holly Bowman is that the greatest ball player in the SWD!. I mean she put up 8 3 balls against Haysi!
8ball 10 Report Share Posted December 11, 2008 I don't think Holly Bowman is the best in SWD -- she is good at times but somewhat sporadic -- we'll just have to wait and see who makes the big plays in the tough games -- that in my opinion is the best. I think Grundy and Holly Bowman travel to Tazewell tomorrow for what I believe is the first SWD game of the season for either the boys or girls -- I hope to get to that game --
