My first ever trip to Grundy

Two weeks later, I was "privileged" to have a personal meeting with Rick Boucher's aides in Washington. Those aides were as useless as teats on a bull. They had ZERO idea about what was happening in Southwest Virginia, much less any specific proposal that Boucher had on the table to improve Southwest Virginia. This was an hour-long meeting, and it consisted of me trying my damnedest to get blood from a turnip for 10 minutes and sitting around looking at the wall for the next 50.

The next hour, I met with George Allen's aides. Now, they were actually able to give me some long-term proposals that could help the Southwest Virginia economy (most of which centered around Lee County and the Pennington Gap area). I cannot tell you how impressed I was with George Allen's staff. But that's beside the point. THEY had a plan. No one affiliated in the counties or the Congressional districts did. Think about how disconcerting this is...

Forget Boucher's aides.

Contact the man himself, he has answered every email and letter I have ever sent him.

I was supposed to meet with Boucher himself. He conveniently double-booked his meeting with me, and I guess a meeting that I had scheduled 3 months in advance didn't outweigh his power-lunch...

Ah, well you got me there.

It was for an event called the "National Youth Leadership Conference".

Got to go to D.C. for a week, be in a mock legislature. A total blast.

And 3 months before the event, we all set up a meeting with our House and Senate Representatives. I got mine set up with Boucher, I can still remember it: Tuesday, February 7th, 11:00 AM. I'm pumped, really excited about it. And I get there, and I'm greeted by his aides. Absolutely deflating feeling. I gave his aides a chance, and it didn't work. Allen wasn't at my meeting with him at 12:30, and that was doubly disappointing. But at least the people he left in charge did their homework.

Boucher is a TOOL and always has been!!! If it doesn't concern lining his pocket he is not interested. As for Tazewell County and Buchanan County Elected officials they hardly have time to handle any problems or concerns for anyone because they are too busy trying to tell everyone how important they are and keeping up with the Jones'.

Well there went my vent for this week. LOL

back in the day she was really good...Pat Benatar / Patti Smith type that could belt it out...really sweet girl...was skinny as a rail back then...it was something to see this little chick jump up on stage with these guys that looked like they fell out of Skynrd and just have this BIG voice...not something you would see every day, especially in Grundy.

The CD that the guy copied for me turned out great...much better than I was thinking it would...I was very pleased with it....the songs kinda sound like late 70's early 80's soft rock...kinda ABBA-ish...only 6 songs on it, I think they must have been looking for a radio hit...doesn't really give an honest showcase of what she sounded like back then...the YouTube videos give a lot more vision in to her real attitude than the Dealer album does.

Thanks, Lance. Being a Saltville boy I can relate to your post. I remember going to football games between the Shakers and the Golden Wave in the '60's before Saltville left the Southwest District to join the Hogoheegee. Great post. I enjoyed reading about your town. I can tell you love Grundy as much as I love Saltville.
